Sure we're running late - but have you ever known us to be on time with anything? :P
It's Christmas Eve and we're finally ready to announce this years finalists. It was a tough call this year, but we're pleased to present you with the following candidates: |
|
Depardieu: Amphetamines
"Well my name is Bryan, but mainly i'm refered to as Amph' in the lineage comunity. I recently turned 24 and i live in Toronto Ontario Canada.
I could go on about my Lineage history, but honestly i doubt anyone really cares. I started playing Amphetamines around the same time DarkElves were introduced as a playable class. I remember just hitting 49 and wishing I had waited for the DarkElf class. Since then I stuck with my Mage, taking small breaks here and there. I have maintained a blog for a few years; I would like to think its one of the more popular ones, but I try to be humble about it. |
|
I'm trying to sell myself here but I really can't. If you know me, you know me. If not, please feel free to visit my site. I have years of history open to read and explore and tons more to come. I just want everyone to know that if I do infact win, I want to thank everyone who voted, and I hope I live up to your expectations... But if not, at least my intentions were in the right place.
Merry Christmas. Amph." |
|
| Ken Rauhel: Molindar
"I'm not really great at selling myself or putting myself ahead of others... I'll see what I can do within these lines.
My mission here is to have fun and get powerful, but not at the expense of others. As a matter of fact, in many ways, I have sacrificed a lot of Adena and items for others growth and power. I believe that a group of strong friends is more important than myself being uber-duber. I enjoy helping my friends and BP members become more than they are. It's who I am, both in RL and the game. Together you can accomplish more than you can by yourself. I have known a lot of people in this game over many years (I started in late 2002). Many of those people have quit or moved to another server leaving me loads of stuff and Adena. It just seemed fair for me to pass most of it out to friends and my BP's at the time. Of course I kept some of it for myself heh. |
|
|
I don't mind hunting with others from other BP's but mainly stay in BP hunts. I don't get involved in much of the drama that goes on through global-chat or on fvb, but there are a few people i'd like to see go poof. You know who you are.
Right is right and wrong is wrong there is no debate upon that, but people try to manipulate others feelings and ideas towards their own ends. I have no time for those people. I want to enjoy my game and learn to hunt together with my friends. My friends are my life. Alone you wither and die. Hmm well I just told you who I am and how I operate. Ill let others speak towards reasons to vote for me as player of the year, as I am not great at speaking highly about myself. Be good and play well !! Moli" |

Lands Of Aden: Somebody
"I started playing Lineage long ago when my uncle and his friends decided it would be something fun at a LAN party we were having. This was around the time right after Desert was put into the game and Desert was uber. That started my obsession and has continued until this day.
My first character was of course a Knight on Depardieu named “Comm4nd3r”, which I later quit and gave it to my uncle to play(very good rolls – oh the joys of rolling that dice for an hour). I then quit for about a year and then, like a great game always does, I was drawn back in for more, but this time I decided to play test with a good friend of mine(Now known by ProblemChild). |
|
Test was a blast, I don’t think I have ever had as much fun as I had on test and that is where I made my very first mage that I actually leveled. Low and behold it was a strength Mage (how I play my mage now), it was so much fun and then test server wiped. I quit again after this for awhile until I heard that Lands of Aden was opening. A fresh server to play with unique rules, can’t beat that. I made my first character, an elf, which went by the name of 7112. Yes I know, a horrible name (unless you’re a bot, then it’s a great name), but it was just a test character to see if I liked Lands of Aden.
I loved the server and made a few friends along the way. Once of which was DICTATOR. I asked him one day “What do you think the best stats are for a mage?” he without hesitation said “18 CON / 18 WIS” and with that I was off to make my mage. Making a name for a new character is always hard, but I figured Somebody would be fitting as I had used it many times before in other games. (Although it is a rather confusing name… “Somebody do this…” “Somebody do that…”). With my character made I was off to begin playing my mage. I found out quick my mage did not hit hard like my previous strength mage, nor did it have the magic power to do very well with magic alone. I found a pledge I wanted to join while hunting Dragon Valley beach and meeting D0MFORCE and Sauromans. I became a member of DOMFORCE and enjoyed that pledge immensely. Shortly after joining I found DVC 3f and how well my mage could do turning undead and leaching mana with Staff of Mana. I then went from level 46 to 49 in a short 9 days (at the time anyway) and that’s where my problems began. I HATED level 49 with a passion. I got 2% on my mage and quit it. I then proceeded to create 6 characters(2 Mages, 2 Knights, DE, Elf) and level then all to 49, then quit them because I hated level 49 that much. Meanwhile doing all of this I made many friends, but none stood out as much as one - Soundwave. I loved the way he played his mage and how well he could do it. I would switch back to my mage here and there, but I could never focus enough to get it done. I dreamt of playing like he did and being able to hunt the places he could. I tried desperately to Turn Undead like all of my mage counterparts, but I just couldn’t do it. It took so much of my mana just to turn one thing because of my horrible Intelligence. I would get frustrated and just give up. I did, however, make it to 50% somehow between my attempts at 31f, 51f, and DVC 3f/4f. My good friend had previously made a Dark Elf (Now ProblemChild) switching from his Knight and asked me if I wanted to go to Forgotten Island with him. Now I had remembered my previous engagements with the Forgotten Island monsters and how they slaughtered me every time as I tried to run away. Ignoring my deaths I decided to go with him. I played my mage like I had always seen Soundwave play his, but switching his brute melee with a combination of melee and spells. This worked incredibly well and I began to focus on making myself better at it and being able to heal other people while doing this. With lots of “work” I just eventually got very good at it. So much so that I often hunt Forgotten Island like I had always seen my idol, Soundwave, do – without summons. Unlike most mages I thought to myself (and with the help of other people saying I should) “What the hell I am already 18 con/wis I might as well add some more WIS”. This was based on the fact that I wanted the MR, MP regen, and the MP level ups. While this might seem like a bad idea, considering how much I whined about not being able to turn undead like everyone else, I have never regretted doing it since. I added to 25 Wisdom and then 3 to Intelligence (Level 60). My last level up I got 16 MP which made me feel very good about my decision to get full Wisdom and then add to Intelligence, seeing as I have 6 more levels until its full =(. I play my Mage like it is a Paladin and I love doing it. I am just a little Knight wannabe or maybe an Elf at heart." |

LineageOne would like to thank EVERYONE for their nominations - we'll be announcing the winner of the bonus 60 day time-card soon!

Since Fields created that prince he was always at war and always was there for his pledge and friends fighting side by side no matter the odds. Well, He wanted to peace hunt for a little bit to recooperate his supplies and have some hunts with friends that wouldn't be interrupted.
| I don't know if you ever heard of the pledge named Firstlove that call themselves SOL... Well, they wouldn't give it to him and one day on pledge chat he went berserk. I was scared he was gonna go insane but he told everyone to goto Kent siege and watch what will happen. So we all went, and Fields was lvl 49 at the time, he uncoi'ed in the middle of SOL's siege and knights and elves started to run up to him to pk him. And he pked 3-4 knights singlehandingly... |

The folllowing interview was conducted on July 12, 2005.
Nukata: Thank you for having this interview
NonenoN: npnp ^^ ty too.
Nukata: We appreciate it very much
Nukata: When did you reach lv65 exactly?
NonenoN: Yesterday. Early morning.
Nukata: Where were you at the moment of leveling up?
NonenoN: FI
Nukata: Please introduce yourself to the LineageOne readers.
NonenoN: I live in LA. I am a Taiwanese and around 22 years old. People call me Law in this game, because my name is Lawrence.
Nukata: How long have you been playing Lineage?
NonenoN: I have been playing Lineage for 5 years already. I started it on a Chinese server at first. Then, I came to the US server as I moved to LA.
Nukata: How long have you been playing this elf?
NonenoN: I have been playing this elf around 2-3 years.
Nukata: How long did it take for you to level up from lv64 to 65?
NonenoN: I think around 10 days. I only play around 10 hours a day. Sometimes just chilling in the mainland.
Nukata: Where do you mainly hunt? Also, hou much exp can you gain per hour?
NonenoN: South of FI, Doppel zone. Also BB area gives a good exp. The exp rate depends on mops' spawn rate. At maximum, I gained 1 % in 40 min.
Nukata: What kind of things do you pay attention at hunt?
NonenoN: Mostly my HP. You can not die when you power-level. the best way to gain % is not to lose %.
Nukata: Have you felt tired or pressured in Lineage? In such a time, how do you get relaxed?
NonenoN: Yes, sometimes. Then I take sometime away from Lineage. I like to play basketball and hang around with my friends. LA is a good place to have fun. There are lots of parties going on here.
Nukata: For those who do not play on DEP, please tell about your pledge.
NonenoN: SoL is a very big pledge. They are very helpful, and I have a lot of friends there.
Nukata: What was the best thing you have experienced in this game?
NonenoN: My friends and the relationships with them. I will be friends with them forever even one day I do not play this game anymore. My lineage time will eventually end, but the friendship will stay.
Sometimes, I think I hunt for exp too much. I only have a little time for the friends.
Nukata: Do you think you will continue to level up to 70 now?
NonenoN: I think I will relax for a while and hunt with my pledge members.
Nukata: What is the charm of Lineage for you?
NonenoN: To be able to challenge yourself, see what is the best you can do, and get to know with lots of people.
Nukata: What problems do you find with this game?
NonenoN: Disconnection and lag. I died once because of lag at lv64.
Also, you come to see the real face of people. You might find out bad sides of people while you spend time with them. Such as bad manner, ill-talks, and cheatings.
Nukata: How could Lineage be improved?
NonenoN: Make all the races balanced. For example, now the elf is kind of weak compared to other classes both in hunting and PvP. But I think it takes turns.
Nukata: Do you have any words to other elves?
NonenoN: Do not give up! Elves rock!
Nukata: I read your blog, and I was surprised you got 2 Ancienct scrolls in a short period of time.
NonenoN: Actually, 5 A-scrolls during about a 5-day period.
Nukata: Gee, those were a great present for Lv65.
NonenoN: Yep, thanks, NC too!
Nukata: Thank you for having this opportunity. I hope you play Lineage for long and have fun time in it.
NonenoN: Thank you for the interview too.

And The Winner Is... Ken Rauhel's Cazorp with a massive 51% of your votes. Congratulations Cazorp! Voted Player Of The Year 2004 by LineageOne readers! We will be contacting you shortly to arrange your four months of free game time! Cazorp Says: "I’m not one for making speeches about myself. Let me just say that when I started to play lineage I never expected to be looked upon by my fellow players as someone that deserves such recognition. I’m honored that you think of me in such regard. I play Lineage to have fun, and try and help people the way others have helped me. I have made many friends in the game, some are very powerful, some are well known, some are wealthy beyond my imagination, but I also have friends that aren’t any of those. It’s the ones we call “newbs”, these people are what keep Lin going. So when I see a newb, or a newb has a question, I don’t mind helping them out if I have the resources to do so... Don’t get me wrong, I’m not always the “nice” person that I seem to always be. There have been many occasions where I have had to put the niceness away to help out a friend, or my pledge in a fight or some other type of issue. As many of my friends know, to me friends and family, pledge mates, comes first and foremost. I’m there if they need me and will be there at any cost." |

Name: Magnetik Server: Depardieu Class: Royal "He has stood in there, thru thick and thin, for along time, maintaining one of the oldest pledges on the server. And you may well realize, it ain't easy holding a pledge together for all this time." "hes none stop lvling, holding down a bunch crazy `electrons`" "I believe he exhibits all the qualities a prince needs. He is fair with pledges members but does not compromise his principles for them. He is someone that does not look for a fight but when his cage is rattled this dog will bite." "He is well liked by his his friends and is respected by his enemies. I believe he is the best representative of the Lineage community." "He does represent everything that Lineage wants to have representing them. |
" He has leveled his prince character to level 51 and will soon be a level 52 prince. That in itself is quite an accomplishment. He has been in the game since the mac beta days. He has established and maintained one of the longest running blood pledges on the dep server."
"He is fair with pledges members but does not compromise his principles for them. He is someone that does not look for a fight but when his cage is rattled this dog will bite."

Name: Breetai Server: Lands Of Aden Class: Royal "The most fun I've ever had hunting with him was when I was trying to help him level to 48 (a tough goal for a charisma royal). We went to 21f toi planning to make our way up to 24f and hunt a while there. He got a little restless and wanted to try 25f. He had so much fun killing his first lesser demon we ended up continuing upwards until we hit 30f . Surprisingly we lasted a little longer than 5 seconds. I ended up dead; while he survived the trip and even killed the iffy that got me." |
"We have a vaguely sexual running joke about crisco and dwarfs; so one day the pledge decided to tame some dwarfs and poly so we could fill our pledge house with dwarfs and mess with Bree when he logged in.. I think its one of those things where ya had to be there but I'll send an ss anyways."
"He sat and talked to me for hours on AIM while I was waiting to redownload lineage (56k and old lin CD so I'm not exagerating) and whenever "real life" is stressing me or I have a computer problem he's always willing to talk and help me work through things. He's the most honorable and generous person I know and I count him as one of my dearest friends."
| "While he's not a super-levelling character (his Prince is at 48), nor does he hold a castle or command a legion of armies, he may be the most giving person I've met during my time on Lineage. He refuses to accept anything for free, yet he'll give you the shirt off his back (literally). He enjoys leading the charge on pledge hunts and if things turn bad, he sincerely hopes that he's the only one who ends...regardless of how hard it is for a Prince to get xp." |
|
"Most people tend to get jaded after a few years of playing lineage; they stop helping the "noobs" and focus more on themselves. In the 2 1/2 years of knowing Breetai, he has never refused help to someone that asked, he has helped people in and out of pledge with getting basic items and guiding them through quests, he has provided encouragement and support for individual goals, and he has even given the t-shirt off his back for those in need."
"He has a nasty habit of slipping odd things into the trade window if you aren't careful; he waits long enough to be sure you clicked ok and puts in gems, adena, dog whistles, hehe or whatever else he may have on him."

Name: Cazorp Server: Ken Rauhel Class: Dark Elf "He is the most kind-hearted, helpful person I've ever met in game. He is always going out of his way to help people out, either by taking "younger" players on hunts to show them the ropes, or by assisting in the various quests, or giving out gear as well as advice. And on top of all that, he managed to somehow make it to level 50 with a wisdom DE! " |
"I'd write a whole novel about him if I had the time, but I have to leave for work right now (I know, I should have done this earlier, but I forgot... some friend I am hehe)."
|
"I can't think of many more dedicated players who play the game regularly and help those who need it. He doesn't put his own leveling too often over hunting with others. He's made my days playing in Panther fun for the most part when I was able to see him.."
"He's given me a lot of items and advice and is one to stop and chat anytime. He'll probably still be in this game long after I have left." "He's generous, trustworthy, and loyal. In my opinion, he is a perfect example of what every player should strive for." |

Lineage HoC : 14th October 2005
QMroo: Hi all - we're just ironing out a few techincal problems - we'll get started soon.
QMroo: Good evening all and thanks for coming along! We will begin shortly - you may start sending your questions to QMelvo, QMszeto or myself by typing /msg QMelvo
QMelvo: hello *^^*~
QMszeto: Hello everyone
QMroo: Hi all and welcome to the first LineageOne developer chat with NCsoft hosted here on Kreynet
QMroo: please send your questions to the QM's: /msg QMelvo
QMroo: please do not message the developers directly as they will be unable to respond
QMroo: I will start tonight by Introducing Mistryl...
Mistryl: Hi everyone, thank you for coming tonight! I'm Mistryl, the Community Coordinator for Lineage.
Scout: Hi, everyone! This is Scout, the departing Publish Coordinator.
Fracas: Greetins! And I would be Fracas, the arriving Publish Coordinator.
GMSylvia: Hi everyone this is GMSylvia Head of Lineage Support
QMroo: and I'm Roo of LineageOne... I'd like to apologise for the late start
QMroo: this was due to some techincal problem preventing Kyzah and Impact from connecting - however the team will be happy to answer questions for them!
QMroo: if you've just joined us - please send your questions to QMelvo or QMszeto: /msg QMelvo
QMroo: benny - When's next episode comming?
Fracas: Our tentative dates were to get 'er on test in October and Live in November. We're still shooting for these dates.
QMroo: never50 - ok i got a question dony know if this is place to ask but here goes i died last week when server went down on event day was told all people that died would get their exp back and i didnt i wrote nc no response
GMSylvia: We have been receiving a lot of extra emails as of late so we may not have had a chance to get to yours but feel free to write in again. Please keep in mind we do answer all emails sent to us.
QMroo: Kirsche - is anything new being done about the influx of bots to the servers?
GMSylvia: We always update our tactics in finding and prosecuting bots however as always we appreciate reports sent to us by the players. Keep in mind that although we can not report on the outcome of these investigations we research every report sent to us.
QMroo: Kirsche - followup: I saw a dude in an illegal morph last night, is that bannable?
GMSylvia: We request that anytime a player sees something they percieve as a violation that they report it immediately. Typically, after the claim is investigated and we find solid proof of a player using an illegal morph then they are prosecuted.
QMroo: if you've just joined us - please send your questions to QMelvo or QMszeto: /msg QMelvo
QMroo: Anju - Is Ep4 pushed back so we can have the much wanted Halloween Event?
Fracas: No, Episode 4 is not being pushed back because of the Halloween Event. We've actually been planning the event for awhile. We're working hard to get them both done and out to you as soon (and as fun) as possible.
QMroo: never50 - has there been any more thought about server merge i think it would be great or do we have to wait until after ep4
Fracas: The server merge is something that we continue to think about but our focus now is on Episode 4. It will definitely not be done until after Ep. 4 is live.
QMroo: kane35 - will there be any new mops in lineage one?
Fracas: Episode 4 will bring new mops, lands, and items to the world of Lineage. There will be plenty of new faces to smash and regions to roam!
QMroo: LadyC - basically, after ep4 comes out,is that really the last episode to be added to Lin1 and how long do they expect this game "Lin1" to run?
Fracas: Absolutely not! New Episodes are always being planned and we intend on going strong for quite awhile.
QMroo: woot! ^^
QMroo: cazey - I heard poly events were discontinued due to popularity issues, however it seems the community indeed wants it. Is this type of event being reconsidered?
Fracas: In response to player feedback we're working to inject more variety into the events we publish. We're not discontinuing polymorph events, we're just exploring all of our options. :)
QMroo: if you've just joined us - please send your questions to QMelvo or QMszeto: /msg QMelvo
QMroo: FireWave - There has been glips of information about an upcoming event for halloween, is there anything you can reveal at this time?
Fracas: It'll be in the era of halloween weekend and spooky.
QMroo: And finally - the last question of the evening:
QMroo: Anju - ok so What are all of your Favourite pets? mine are Ferrets.
Scout: Mistryl! Oh, wait, in game? Oh, then rabbits!
Mistryl: Scout!
Fracas: I prefer pets that do what I say, when I say, and how I say it. I also think dogs are cool.
GMSylvia: I like fish because they have no hair!
QMelvo: Lovebirds!!!
QMroo: Chinchillas!
Fracas: I thought that was a type of food?
QMroo: hey! >.<
Fracas: Maybe I'm thinking of a Churro.
QMroo: Ok! that about wraps it up for tonight - thank you all for coming along, and a special thank you to the NCsoft team for giving us their time. Don't forget you can always address your concerns on the official Lineage message boards!
Mistryl: Thank you everyone!
QMelvo: Thank you *^^*!
Scout: Thanks all!!
GMSylvia: Thanks everyone!
Fracas: Thanks!
In the days before LineageOne, our developer chats were often hosted by Stratics. For reference, some of the more recent chat logs are available below.
If you came here looking for information on the latest Live Chat sessions, go to our LiveChat pages.
Lineage HoC : 3rd May 2005
Brekkee: We'll be starting shortly, please feel free to begin sending your questions in to [QT]Phineus
Brekkee: Good evening and welcome to another great Stratics House of Commons chat, tonight our guests are the developers of Lineage! The topic tonight is general discussion so all questions are welcome.
Brekkee: Please send your questions to [QT]Phineus - to do so type /query NICK and type in the window that pops up. Questions sent to me or the developers will not make it into the lineup. Full logs of the chat will be up on http://www.stratics.com shortly after the chat.
Brekkee: We'll start with a brief introduction from the developers, now would be a good time to send those questions.
Kyzah: Hi everyone, Kyzah here, Content Writer/Editor for Lineage I in the US; great to see everyone this evening, thanks for coming out! :)
Scout: Hi, all. I'm the L1 Publish Coordinator. Welcome!
Mistryl: Hi everyone! I'm Mistryl, Community Coordinator for Lineage.
GMSylvia: Hi all I'm the Head GM for Lineage 1 :)
CaptSturm: Hiya, I'm CaptSturm. I'm the Live Process Manager for NC North America.
Brekkee: *Gippal* Hi! This is Gippal, an admin of LineageDB! anyways I was just going to ask about the possibility of a server merge? I have heard all about it but I never can get any info, do you have any?
Scout: We're still contemplating the server merge. We were very interested to see how the one in Hong Kong works out actually. We don't have definite plans yet, but we are still discussing it heavily.
Brekkee: *Rooey* Roumer has it our dragons are finally coming back... and they're bringing a friend with them... Can you tell us anything about this yet?
Scout: Sorry - I can't really comment on that yet. Stay tuned! :)
Brekkee: *lordbane* on LOa server have you decided about upping the brings drop raye insc and allowing silver to drop outside of mineral caves?
Scout: I'm still evaluating the effects of both of those changes, but it looks promising.
Brekkee: *Gippal* Another question ^_^! I have heard about the pre release plans of Episode 4.. Pirate Island and all.. Is this true?
Scout: Now you know we won't talk about things like that! :)
Brekkee: *Rooey* Capt, are you still alive? Did Scout eat you? What have you been doing? Where have you been hiding?
CaptSturm: Still around--I work with Scout on a daily basis. I oversee all the North America titles now, so I'm spread thin. :)CaptSturm: We just published the Issue 3 for Lineage, we launched GuildWars last week, we have a major update to City of Heroes tomorrow that includes PvP arenas...
CaptSturm: A new update for Lineage 2 is right around the corner for Chronicle 3
CaptSturm: AND other stuff I can't publicly comment on. :)CaptSturm: So, yeah, still around and staying busy.
Brekkee: Please send in your questions to [QT]Phineus by typing /msg [QT]Phineus
Brekkee: *Rooey* Scouts events over the past few months have been Legendary... The test server fun was fantastic... We appreciate the effort, but I *have* to ask... What's she got up her sleeves next? :)Scout: Well, keeping up the Legendary status is very trying. :) We do intend on doing an event soon if things stay steady for awhile. And we're working on some variations regarding events, so we'll just have to see what happens.
Brekkee: *Rooey* Kyzah, have you been keeping busy in your new role? What have you been doing? We miss you!
Kyzah: Quite! In addition to the daily/weekly news announcements, publish notes, etc., I‚ve been working with Mistryl on more community-related updates, such as the player stories, fan art, Q&A sessions, and working on the game content web updates as well.
Kyzah: I still peek in on the boards from time to time, though! ;)
Brekkee: *Rooey* Is DarkWing still with us, or did he get mawled by an Ogre?
CaptSturm: DarkWing is no longer with NC, the QA role is currently being wrangled at the QA Manager's direction.
Brekkee: *Gippal* Once again- I heard about the Posieidon hitting level 80 level cap and plans of rasing it.. Yay or Nay?
CaptSturm: I know there's a lot of interest in the next episode and plans that have been discussed in other territories. We could speculate on what the dev team has planned, but its honestly just to early for us to speak to that. At this early stage, there's much that may change or being removed and we really don't want to set false expectations. So, yeah, I expect it to be cool--but I'll need the content to be a bit further along before commiting to what
CaptSturm: includes
Brekkee: *Rooey* Mistryl, This is your first ever Lineage 1 HoC? Come on... give us something to gossip about... What's it like working with these... umm loonies?
Mistryl: This is my first HoC for Lineage! I'm having an absolute blast working on the Lineage team and with the community. I really enjoy it. :)
Brekkee: *Rooey* What's happening with Diad Fortress... Did we just forget about this one after testing, or are you still tweaking it for
Scout: No, it hasn't been forgotten about. However, it's much more sensitive making changes on live and must be considered more carefully. But we're still aware that changes could be made to improve things, and we'd like to see the Fortress taken at some point!
Brekkee: *Rooey* GMSylvia, It's great to see you "out and about" tonight. What have you been upto recently? How are you keeping busy?
GMSylvia: Well I just finished a Q&A session which Mistryl just posted to the site and as always am working very hard on player issues. :)
Brekkee: Please send in your questions to [QT]Phineus by typing /msg [QT]Phineus
Brekkee: *lordbane* will there be news of any kind of event soon?
Scout: Well, we're still kicking around ideas. So now's the time to post your awesome ideas on the boards!!
Brekkee: *Rooey* Which one of you guys has the highest level character now? Do all of you still play outside of work, or are you all sick to the teeth of Lineage by the time you get home? :)CaptSturm: I think I have the highest level...
CaptSturm: on the internal test server! :)CaptSturm: On live, I have a few in the 40s, highest is 48.
Mistryl: I play outside of work. :) But I definitely don't have the highest level!
Scout: I won't say what level my characters are - it's just embarassing. But I spend a great deal of time dying... and loving it!
GMSylvia: I play outside when I can....at an undisclosed level!
Kyzah: My highest on live is still in the 50 range, the next one down is 49; still levelling! :)
Brekkee: *Rooey* How successful do you think the test server is? Should more of us be playing it?
Scout: I do think the test server is very successful. And valuable. Obviously, the more people that player are more likely to find issues. And the players certainly do more things than we can think of to test. Of course we could always use more testers. Without testers, L1 would be much worse off.
Brekkee: *Rooey* Who would win in a fight? Mistryl or Scout?... ok and in-game?
Kyzah: Hmmm, Dragon vs. Vampire... hard to tell!
Mistryl: Scout. I think she's a vampire and she's trying to get me to join her legion of the undead.
CaptSturm: In game, Mistryl for sure. Out of game, Scout--because she'd fight dirty. Seen her do it.
Scout: I think Mistryl - she's scrappy and could chase me down. (Yea, that's right, I'd be running!)
Brekkee: That will wrap it up for tonight. I‚d like to thank the folks from Lineage for coming!
Brekkee: The log for tonight‚s chat will be up shortly on http://www.stratics.com. Thank you all for joining us! You can join #Lineage to chat more about the game.
Mistryl: Thanks for coming everyone!
CaptSturm: Thanks for everyone that joined us tonight--we really appreciate our Lineage fans!
Kyzah: Great to see you all as always! Catch you in-game!! :)Scout: Thanks everyone! These are always enjoyable.
GMSylvia: Thank you all!
Lineage HoC : 12th January 2005
Kyzah: Hi everyone -- Kyzah here, Community Coordinator for Lineage I US -- great to see you all, hope you had a wonderful holiday and are having a great new year! :)
Scout: Hi, all. I'm the Publish Coordinator for Lineage 1. Glad to see you all again!
captsturm: Hello All! I'm CaptSturm, the NC Live Process Manager. Glad you stopped by!
Brannoc: *Vinnee* Hi Id like to ask whether theres any progress on server mergers?
Scout: We are still discussing the possibility of a server merger. However, we don't have any definite plans yet, and are still kicking around various ideas.
captsturm: I'd add that we're taking the time to consider the FULL ramifications and we're discussing the details right down to dog names. We want to do it right or not at all. We've been reading the concerns posted on the forums and will take all of your concerns into consideration for any plans.
Kyzah: Yes, thank you everyone for your constructive discussions on this topic in the forums, they're most helpful. :)
Brannoc: *SunnyD* We in the Lineage Community have noticed numerous D/C's, lag spikes, etc. in recent weeks has NCAustin pinpointed the cause for these problems and are you anywhere near fixing them?
Scout: The network issues we've experience lately are due to a myriad of reasons. Our networking team is very aware of the impacts of such issues, and are constantly making changes to resolve them.
Brannoc: *Lealan* when will trade chat on loa be implemented?
Scout: Trade chat is linked to global chat. Therefore, it falls under the same umbrella as global chat, and the reasons we it hasn't been implemented.
Scout: With vendors and trade zones, it isn't as vital as it may have once been.
Brannoc: *Rooey* What's the *real* deal with the two month drop event? I remember capt' hinting you guys might pull that off at some point... how'd you get away with it?
Scout: We didn't get away with anything. We extended the event because it was well received and helped the players a great deal without harming the economy.
captsturm: It is sometimes funny to see various conspiracy theories--are motives are really pretty simple, we want you to keep playing and we want you guys to have fun. Nothing to do with any other games launching, or martian invasions. It was a subtle event and fun to run for a long period. Woot scout for insisting.
Brannoc: *Wae* When will the LoA guide and on-line guide be updated?
Kyzah: The LoA Change List in the forums is generally updated after the changes are made live to the server; the online guide will be updated as soon as possible, staffing and scheduling permitting.
Brannoc: *Fry* could you please go into more detail about how the poly events will work in general and the one this weekend in specific?
Scout: Polymorph events open up higher level polymorphs so that they can be used by anyone no matter what level. The upcoming event opens up the level 60 polymorphs (the Silver trio). The event will run Thursday 10AM - Tuesday 10AM.
Brannoc: *Rooey* Episode 3 is looming... Any great sneaky plans for the LoA fans out there that might differ from the Korean "build" ?
Scout: At this time, we're still testing and evaluating Ep 3. It's way too early to determine if we want to make any LoA specific changes. I anticipate that decision will come much later after we've processed Ep 3 fully.
Brannoc: *Rooey* Can anything be done about exp loss at siege on the non-pvp server? even if it's only a short-term change it might liven the scene up for a while?
captsturm: While I'm not sure that is possible with current coding, I'd agree that it is a fine suggestion. I'll talk to scout and we'll monkey around on an internal test server and see what can be done
captsturm: If it is impossible, we'll run it past dev to see their impression or concerns about a possible server specific flag
Brannoc: *Chia* are my event scrolls going to disappear along with the coins, or will we be allowed to keep these?
Scout: Yes. All special event items will be removed during the maintenance tomorrow. BTW, the event scrolls shouldn't be confused with the normal, everyday scrolls that you may have had prior to the event, which will not be touched. In case you're still curious, I did post a complete list of event items on the boards.
Brannoc: *Sharpie* is there a date yet for pub 3 on us live servers?
Kyzah: Not at this time, no.
Brannoc: *Xero* why are necromancer caps so rare? I've spent ages trying to get one from high level and had no luck.
captsturm: That's a simple designer issue--the intention is that there are some items in the world that are very rare and hard to come by.
captsturm: Its a hard thing to balance, too many and every other item becomes obsolete, too little and, well, there's too few.
captsturm: There's a ton of variable in setting something like the drop rate of an item, such as merchant sellback value, risk to get, number in world, etc.
Brannoc: *Rooey* When are we going to see fixes for the hyperlink issues on the mac client that shipped with Episode 2?
Scout: We've communicated this issue to the Korean development team, as well as other Mac related issues. Now that they have survived their Episode 3 release, we'll re-address open issues to get them resolved as soon as possible.
Brannoc: *Rooey* Well.. the "other" newer 3d MMORPG is out now and the masses have fled... well some of them... We know NC korea has commited to several more episodes still but just how far does this take us? Should we start to seek counciling now?
captsturm: Well, our numbers actually went up a bit after the release of that "other" game--but the real answer to the question your asking is this:
captsturm: Seoul is creating more and more content with no signs of slowing down--we're just as commited in the US to continue proving update to Lineage.
Ozymandius has left the channel
captsturm: While its true that Lineage 1 isn't posting the numbers of Lineage 2 or City of Heroes, the fans that we do have aren't ditching us, and we've always stated emphatically that we'll not abandon our players.
captsturm: That's something that I take great pride in, and that makes me so happy to be a part of this company. I've seen other games fold up, leaving signicant communites in the lurch. On a personal note, Lineage 1 is still one of my all time favorite games and I play often.
captsturm: So, don't write us off yet. I know people have been saying "L1 is dying" for as long as I've been here. Our numbers are as solid as ever--I don't mean that cocky, we better be working everyday to get you players good, quality content. But just don't let the nay-sayers fool you either.
Brannoc: *Ashtray-* will the lag be fixed in time for the poly event so i won't just be dying in style?
Scout: As with any network, there are some things that are out of our control. However, our networking team has done a number of hardware and software upgrades lately to improve our end of things. They're working very hard to ensure our service is as stable as possible. And we very much appreciate your patience and understanding!
Brannoc: *Vinnee* Are LOA's Essence of Nobility ever to be introduced to Ken and Dep servers ?
Stygia (JavaHoC@84.12.52.7) has joined the channel
captsturm: Not as a permanent addition--our mandate is currently to keep the ken/dep servers mirrored. This does allow us to get the content quickly, but reduces the ability to do drastic changes to the gameplay of those servers.
Brannoc: And lastly... *Vinnee* GREAT HOC CHAT ~~ THANKS TO YOU GUYS FOR WORKING OVERTIME TONIGHT ~~ GREAT JOB!! (and) *Vinnee* One more from me (hope you have more now ^^),, please pass on our thanks for the recent events ^^
Kyzah: You're most welcome! Kudos to Scout on the events!!! :)
captsturm: My pleasure. And, I need to give "mad props" to Scout for some fantastic events--good stuff.
Scout: Well, thank you. We hope everyone enjoys the events, and we'll try to do more!
Brannoc: And that's it folks, thanks for joining us tonight and be sure to come back next time! The logs will be up on www.stratics.com shortly.
Scout: Thanks everyone! It was great fun. Hope to see you all next time!
Kyzah: Wonderful to see everyone, as always -- take care, see you in-game and on the boards! :)
captsturm: Thanks all, g'nite!
Lineage HoC : 14th September 2004
Brannoc: Welcome to another great House of Commons chat with the developers of Lineage! The topic will be general discussion so any questions about the game are welcome.
Brannoc: So without further ado we'll start with a brief introduction from the developers, now would be a good time to send those questions - and remember that's Lineage 1, not Lineage 2, so keep the questions focused.
Kyzah: Hi everyone, Kyzah here, Community Coordinator for Lineage I US -- great to see everyone this afternoon/evening! :)
Scout: Hi all. I'm Scout, the Publish Coordinator for L1.
captsturm: Hi all, I'm CaptSturm, NC's Live Process Manager--I work with the US NC titles and ongoing content delivery/publishes. Good to see you all here.
Brannoc: *Rooella* Can you confirm that a possible client fix for both the Auto-Loot and the text-link allignment has been recieved from Seoul?
Scout: Yes, they have been received. Obviously we need to do some testing on that and other things we received, but we will have the changes out as soon as possible.
Brannoc: *BlackHawk* Will we ever see any ports of Lineage for say Xbox or Playstation 2?
captsturm: I wouldn't say never about anything, but that's not something I'm aware at this point. The focus is on the PC versions and Mac for the US at this time.
Brannoc: *Rooella* What improvements can we expect to see over the next month?
Scout: We are looking at a number of improvements and additions from feedback we've received from players, as well as our own little plans, and in constant communication with Korea. I don't have any solid details to reveal just yet, but we are looking to make some improvements that hopefully everyone will enjoy.
captsturm: Scout and I have been working to bring a new elf quest and items to LoA as an ongoing effort to add class specific quests. This work continues, but we're making good progress.
Scout: We are looking at a server merge. Obviously it will take some planning, and we want to make it as easy as possible on the players.
captsturm: To be more accureate, we're looking at what options we do have--a server "merge" not being reasonably possible.
Brannoc: (quick clarify) *Chewable* ken server users are getting lower and lower, will there be a servers merge with one of the other server?
captsturm: One alternative would be to allow server transfers, but would require significant limitations. In short, we're more in the very early evaluation stage and no firm decisions (or even planning) has taken place.
captsturm: It's all casual conversations at this point..."Hey, what if" type of things
Brannoc: *Rooella* What info can you give on Episode 3?
Scout: At this time, we have very little information on Episode 3, so we'd rather not even speculate as things most likely will change by the time it's released.
Brannoc: *Rooella* Will we ever see a Non-PVP LoA server?
captsturm: I've talked about this with Scout a bit and we'd prefer to work out a different solution that allows us to keep all of the population available on a single server.
captsturm: We've added the Turtle Island non-pvp map as an option, but that's obviously limited.
captsturm: It does demonstrate how we can have zones available on a single server, even for higher levels.
captsturm: So, we'd like to go the route of making some existing maps non-pvp, perhaps the Ivory Tower. In contrast to this, we could make more maps full combat zones like Forgotten Island currently is.
captsturm: I like sieges. I like PvP. I even like the excitement of a possible PK. I don't like unregulated full-blown nonconcensual preying on of other players.
Brannoc: *BlackHawk* Do yall have any other projects in the works besides the Lineage series?
captsturm: Scout and Kyzah are assigned to Lineage 1. I am responsible for the Publish Process for all North American titles--City of Heroes, Lineage 1, and Lineage 2...and whatever else comes along. :^)
Brannoc: *Rooella* On the Korean website is some information about the Lineage World Tornament... What's that all about?
captsturm: There are a few Lineage related services that are avaiable in Korea, one of which is the Lineage Tournament server. It basically allows you (as I understand it) to play your character on one server, then enter a "temporary" server to battle other players from other servers.
captsturm: Nothing that happens on the tournament server affects your "normal" play character. It is like an "instant action" mode.
Brannoc: *Platinumjunkie* What is your official stance on Adena/items duping?
captsturm: Banning of account and related accounts first offense.
Brannoc: *kyoshiro* When is the next event scheduled for?
Scout: Well, we don't schedule events, we deliver them as publish content allows. being in the middle of new content currently, all we can really say is "not quite yet." I'd love to do one fairly soon, but we're at the mercy of the new content at this time.
Brannoc: Please remember to send questions only to [QT]Gowel OR [QT]PhroG and not to myself or the developers.
Brannoc: *tavell* Alot has happened recently in the world of MMORPGs, with the cancellation of Dragon Empires and the announcement of Star Trek: Online. How does this change, if at all, the market for you and the Lineage line of games?
captsturm: Development of MMORPGs has always been very dynamic, with new titles and cancellations on what seems to be a monthly or even weekly basis.
captsturm: In the end, it should affect what we're doing and that should be to deliver compelling, solid content no matter what the other guys are doing.
captsturm: The market place is still growing and we've got a solid line-up already. L2 is the best of the combat orient mmps around and is absolutely fantastic in the graphics area. Lineage 1 is still doing gang-busters world wide (and will long be one of my absolute favorites). And City of Heroes continues to amaze the community.
Brannoc: *kyoshiro* Is the lin fiction coming to the website anytime soon?
captsturm: I've had intentions of getting some fiction updates rolling for a long while, and it has a bad habit of getting pushed out.
captsturm: I'm a big fan of the fiction of the Lineage world and my passion is writing (i'm finishing up my first novel and if ya'll could all buy a copy or two I'd appreciate it^^).
captsturm: So, sorry for the delay and it is still something we want to do.
Kyzah: In the meantime, you can always check out the wonderful fan fiction on our site under the Player Stories section -- our latest round of Player Story Submissions is also open until the 20th of this month, so feel free to send in your own take on the Lineage fiction, we'd love to see it. :)
Brannoc: *Rooella* Are you addressing the pet control issues?
Scout: At this time, we're not aware of any overwhelming issues with pet control. However, we
continue to look at all reports of imbalance in the game.
Brannoc: *xg* Is any of the Lineage team located in austin?
captsturm: None of the core development team is located in Austin. We have the Live Team, which includes Scout, Kyzah, DarkWing (QA Lead) and GMRock, as well as many other support staff.
Brannoc: *Rooella* What *did* happen to GMLena, GMScorth and GMVisigoth? Kyzah already told us they weren't made into pies...
captsturm: Still with the company, all promoted--one is a Billing Lead, another manages the knowledge base, another is the hardware lab lead.
Brannoc: *Rooella* or How are you planning on improving customer opinion of support going forward?
captsturm: So, that's a tought question.
captsturm: Let me start by saying our GMs get hammered unfairly for many things.
captsturm: "Monitors don't answer my whispers"
captsturm: Well, that's not why they're there. We have a support email. Just like you don't expect the janitor at the burger joint to fix your car, you can't expect monitors to do something other than what they're tasked to do.
captsturm: "I reported a guy 5 times for cheating"
captsturm: We can't ban people for be reported--we need to catch 'em. (When we do, we will ban them.)
captsturm: "My friend said they did..."
captsturm: I've seen the logs on a few of these, the friends tell a different story than what the full version of the chat log/player log indicates.
captsturm: They also get hammered for game design elements, even though GMs don't design or program.
captsturm: So, specific areas where you personally aren't getting helped can be sent on to Rock if the CS rep isn't helping properly.
Brannoc: *Rooella* Do ya'll enjoy your jobs?
captsturm: Best and worst job I've ever had. Wouldn't do anything else if I could though.
Scout: I love my job! Everyday I learn something new and exciting about Lineage. Plus I get to turn a few more of Capt's hair gray. :)
Kyzah: Wait -- don't you get paid for a job?? CAPT!!!!!!
Brannoc: *Taera* Novel? Where? We want details!
Kyzah: Capt, are you sure you didn't mean navel?
captsturm: hehe
captsturm: Its a sci-fi, political thriller, romance and action story that anyone can read--I give it 5 stars.
Kyzah: InconTHEEvable!
Brannoc: *Rooella* Why? Why? Why? *stomps feet*
Kyzah: Chicken thigh.
Scout: Because the chicken thigh said so.
Brannoc: And that's it for this one folks! Thanks for coming and please be sure to join us next time around - the logs will be posted shortly at http://www.stratics.com
Kyzah: Thanks for coming out tonight everyone, great to see you as always! :)
captsturm: Thanks for staying and playing folks. Bring your friends. Tell your family. See ya at level 70! (wait for me^^)
Scout: Thanks everyone!

Here you can find answers to the questions raised by the LineageOne community.
How can a Princess join a pledge of a Prince?
Hi Rudy,
This is actually quite simple:
A prince or princess may only join another blood pledge if the leader of that pledge is level 45+ and has completed the 45 quest.
If the prince or princess wanting to join a pledge is has NOT done the level 45 quest, they may join their entire bloodpledge to the pledge too - simply by facing the other royal and typing /join
If however the royal wanting to join the pledge has completed the 45 quest already, they must dispand their existing blood pledge first.
In either case, always be sure to empty your pledge storage first!
Good Luck!
Roo.
can someone help me and let me know how to log onto the test server? thanks!
Here is the information available about the public test server:
Please do not use your normal game client to access the Test Server, as this may adversely affect your normal game client and ability to play on the live servers.
When accessing the Test Server, we urge that you keep in mind the following:
The Lineage Test Server is not a full-service game server. There is no customer support for this server, and we urge that you do not consider this to be a regular play server. The Test Server may be wiped at any time, and there will be no restoration of characters, items, or pets lost on this server due to any causes.
The Lineage Test Server is bound by the rules of the User Agreement and Rules of Conduct. Please conduct yourselves in the same manner as you would on a live game server.
You are required to connect to the test server via the official method listed here on the web site. Circumventing the updater, ect, can cause a host of problems and result in bugs and invalid testing. We also do internal testing while the update server is down, such as massive npc load testing, etc. This is not a supported server and is used solely for testing and improving the quality of Main Server publishes.
Bugs or other game issues found on the Test Server should be reported with the "Ask a Question" link in the Support Center. The template to use for reporting bugs can be found here.
To access the Lineage Test Server using a Windows game client:
Create a copy of your Lineage game folder by copying the contents of C:\Program Files\Lineage into a new folder such as C:\Program Files\Test Lineage. It is important that you do not use your existing game client to access the server as it may affect your ability to play on the public servers.
Locate the lineage.exe file in the new folder and create a shortcut for it on your desktop by right-clicking and dragging it to the desktop. Choose “Create Shortcut Here when prompted.
Rename the desktop shortcut to “Test Server
Right-click on the desktop shortcut and choose “Properties
Select the shortcut tab and locate the “Target line.
Add the following IP address at the end of the target line: 216.107.243.50. Your target line should now read: “C:\Program Files\Test Lineage\lineage.exe 216.107.243.50
Note: Be sure to include a space between the quotation marks (“) and the IP address (216.107.243.50) or you will be unable to connect.
Click OK and run the Test Server shortcut to access the server.
To access the Lineage Test Server using a Macintosh game client:
Press the ‘Control’ key while clicking the Lineage icon in your Applications folder.
Select the ‘Duplicate’ option.
Rename the duplicate application to “Lintest (with no quotation marks)
Open the Terminal application located in the Applications/Utilities folder
Run the client from the Terminal application by typing in the following: /Applications/Lintest.app/Contents/MacOS/Lineage 216.107.243.50
An active Lineage game account is required to play on Test Server. Thank you for your assistance on the Lineage Test Server, and we look forward to seeing you there!
i have registered here but i still cannot play the game because then I am conecting it is sed that you have been disconected?
LineageOne.com does not maintain or run the game Lineage. We are merely a fansite dedicated to it. Instructions on how to get your Lineage 1 game account are available [here]
How do i reset a password when the email acct is no longer active??
You can't...
... but I can... if you're really really nice.
How does cha work (on LoA if there's any difference between servers)?
Is it:
Normal: (cha/6)+1 = monsters/pets one can have
Dires: cha/6 = dires one can have
Or:
Normal: (cha+6)/6= monsters/pets one can have
Dires: (cha+6)/8 = dires one can have
Or some other way?
Well, we really had no clue about this, so we asked GM Abularkin, who told us: "To the best of our knowledge, CHA is a core game mechanic that cannot be changed. Thus, it works on the North American servers exactly as it does on the Korean servers."
I hope there is also a lineageone here in philippines!!?
Lineage service is provided in the following locations:
Could you explain the lvl and point sys of LinOne?
Why yes, I could... but that would kinda spoil the mystery wouldn't it?
No? Well okay then... We wanted to encourage ya'll to submit content, comments, forum posts, blog entries, stories, hall of fame entries and stuff to keep LineageOne alive... so we came up with the "Web Level" system. We stuck an "exp" bar onto the "My Account" and "Forums" screens to show your progress and wey-hey.
That's not really enough tho - soon we're gonna wipe all of yer points away... cos we're mean like that... Then we'll start the great race... but more on that another time...
Roo.
What is the maximum ammount allowed to place in the bid box?
The maximum bid that can be placed on any item is 999,999,999 adena.
How long does it take to re-activate an account?
I'm comming back to check out the new episode, i reactivated my account 3 days ago yet im still waiting for it to be officially activated by NC.
i've contacted support and they've been useless, saying to wait for a further update to your problem.
Any idea yourself?
Sometimes it's best to talk with them on the phone! You can contact the account support people on: 1-512-225-6359. Lines are open Monday to Saturday from 1pm to 9pm Central.
How much does dexterity help with critical hits?
To the best of our knowledge, dexterity increases your "to-hit" score - you can see more about this on LineageDB - they have some nice tables on this.
So - how does THAT affect crit hits? Well, it's simple - if you miss (as opposed to land a hit) the chances of you hitting for critical damage is zero. If you miss less, your chances are greatly improved. The more hits you manage to land without missing, the greater your chances of doing critical damage.
I have been killed 3 times by a supposidly freindly player that when restarting I have turned negative seven thousand chaotic and have to start all over again. How are they doing this and what causes it? It is getting old having to get back to above thirty thousand points to not drop items when killed, are these bots doing this? Thanks Bonmonsus
It's been known for this to happen to people who are hunting with pets or summons... Usually because your pet has been shot and then eaten someone. Always keep an eye on your animals.
Hey, I just bought lineage 1, for my mac..(macbook 2 gigs ram) i was wondering, is it supposed to be this chopy? i find the game play is kind of brutal and not at all like the vids i see online... Is it because of the mac client? and how do you run? lol thanks..
wes
You've kinda got two questions going on here...
1. Does the mac client suck?
In short... yes...
The Mac Lineage client is a PowerPC application - so running it on the newer MacBook requires it to emulate the PowerPC processor... Additionally, there are known issues with the character walking and swing speeds on the mac client.
2. How do I run?
Eat haste potions, or braves/wafers/essence/etc.
Is there any link available where i can download the Life and Death full movie. I found the trailer available in this website. But tat too I cant download. I can only watch. My connection speed is slow. So I cant watch online. Can any1 help plz
Happy Huntin
Svatcat
Why yes! There is :)
You can download the trailers from ncsoft's website at http://www.ncsoft.com/eng/ncgames/lineage_movie.asp.
Note that the trailer for Episode 4 is not available as, unlike all of the other trailers, the dialogue was all Korean.
I noticed you have a signature option under your account. On other forums I've been to the signature usually goes something like this:
--------------------------------------
(Your signature here.)
Well, I gave myself a signature and it seems to be broken. I went to reply to a thread and my signature was already typed out. This isn't how signatures worked on other forums I've been to. Maybe I did something wrong?
What are you saying? You've been visiting OTHER forums? Well that's just not allowed.
When test wipe
Ive been wondering how Turn Undead really works!
Is it SP, Int or level that determines my propability???
Id like to get a definate awnser some day.
I'm sorry to say that we've asked and we've asked and we've asked and we've asked. It seems that either:

Well first off, let me start by sending you my condolences on your purchase... Still, if you insist on running Mac OS X 10.3 err I mean Microsoft Windows Long... err Vista, then here's the deal:
No.

I'm a player playing Lineage in Korea.
This site has a great deal of hidden informations(Not officially announced)more than Korean Fansites.
1. I'd like to know relationship between STR & Chance of ranged attack. I just could get things about Damage.
2.Do you know exact probability of over enchanting?
ex)+5 Armor + B-zel-> Fail or +6 +7 +8 etc...
+5 Armor + N-zel-> Fail or +6
Using Normal Enchant Scrolls:
Please keep in mind that any time you attempt to enchant past the item's safe limit, you also have a chance of destroying the item you are attempting to enchant.
Using a Blessed Scroll of Enchant Armor/Blessed Scroll of Enchant Weapon will not improve your chances for over-enchanting.
Bone armor and weapons have no safe enchant limit; players run the risk of destroying bone items with the first attempt at enchanting. The chance to successfully over-enchant Bone armor is 1 over the current enchantment+2.
Examples:
Non-Elven armor has a safe enchant limit of +4; this includes the Bracer, Boots and Power Gloves; the Red Knight's Hood is an exception to this rule, it can be safely enchanted to +6. The chance to successfully over-enchant non-Elven armor is 1 over the current enchant level:
Examples:
Elven armor has a safe enchant limit of +6; this includes the Bless of Elm, Elven Helm of Dexterity, and Elven Helm of Constitution. The chance to successfully over-enchant Elven armor is 1 over the current enchant level:
Examples:
Most weapons have a safe enchant limit of +6; Bone weapons have no safe enchant limit. The chance to successfully over-enchant weapons is 1 in 3 (approximately 33%):

CageMage Asked:
On linBay - can we have a view all items selection?
Reason asking is because there are not that many items at this point and it would save time.
Knowing that when this takes off really big - this options can be disabled!

Roo, is there a way to view all items on Linbay at the same time? Going through one category at a time (especially with Linbay just starting up) is icky. :)
v.v.v
This issue was re-addressed in the LinBay Update on 20th November 2006.
It is now possible to view all listed items at the same time.
Previous Answer:
Actually, this is how LinBay originally worked during development. We found as we added more items, the list got bigger and bigger and bigger.
To combat this, we split the system up into searchable categories.
We realised that this took away a nice feature, so to compensate for that, we've added a "New listings" and "Ending soon" listings section to the LinBay block.
If one puts a bzel on a +5 bcomr, what are the odds for blown, +6 and +7?
4/5 blown, 1/10 +6 and 1/10 +7? Or some other way?
This information is available from the PlayNC Lineage Knowledgebase article [Chances of Over-Enchanting Armor/Weapons] I hope it helps :)
When is the halloween event coming and is it going to be like the 2004 event?

After managing to snag an exclusive chat with NC's Kyzah we thought next we'd take a bash at speaking to some of you in-game. We sent our very own Appleseede and Elvorith on the case to speak with ElvanEscense & BlueBerries... Just when NC thought we were done we bagged a round of questions with GMSylvia! We didn't stop there either... We collared the likes of Nomad, Arctic-Sun, Impact and Fracas to bring you the gossip behind the scenes of the Mambo Equinox, we've beaten CaptSturm into submission to ask what came first, The Dragon or the Fire Egg? Most recently we asked Fracas about his return, and boy did he have a lot to say. We've welcomed new staff & said goodbye to old friends... So, what next? Well we've been chasing everyone and anyone who'll talk to us without a restraining order, so stay tuned for our next interrogation... errr I mean interview!
Today I have the pleasure of talking directly with Kyzah, the Community
Coordinator for Lineage 1 in the US.
She's made a special promise not to set fire to my office or cast Turn
Undead on my mother-in-law.
|
Rooella |
Hi there Kyzah! How are you doing today? |
|
Kyzah |
Fine, thanks for asking; and you? :) |
|
Rooella |
Yeah! I'm doin' great thanks! :) I have a whole heap of questions to ask you... So we'll start with the nice ones and i'll turn mean later... :D How long have you been working on Lineage with NC now? |
|
Kyzah |
Just over 2 ½ years. |
|
Rooella |
Wow you must really love your job huh? *avoids incoming slap* Can you give us a hint of what and average day in the office is like for you? |
|
Kyzah |
I don't know that I've had an average day since I started here... Generally, a standard week for me will typically include any and all of the following: forum moderation and discussion, often including multiple conversations and related discussions with Development, QA, Support and Network Operations; various forum-related administrative duties; assisting/Consulting with other departments and products; various meetings and discussions relating to L1 and other products; news announcements and web/internal documentation; various ongoing contests, such as the Screenshots, Player Stories, and Fan Art, as well as special contests, such as the Boss Monster Design Contest; various fansite-related tasks, including review of submitted new and existing sites and browsing various "Linblogs"; L1 Comic editing/revision; assisting in troubleshooting any issues/emergencies that might arise; various game and community-related brainstorming discussions and meetings; various game and community-related reports. Until next week that is, then who knows!? ;) |
|
Rooella |
So you've been present for a significant number of major changes? How many episode changes have you been involved with so far? |
|
Kyzah |
Five; I joined NCsoft just prior to Episode 10 (pre-Dark Conquest). |
|
Rooella |
Wow that's a lot! More than i've seen in-fact! hehe. It must be pretty crazy there during a publish... What was it like back there during the roll-out of Episode 2? |
|
Kyzah |
Fairly hectic and involved; we've had many, many long days and weeks of testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and legwork, some of which is still ongoing; however, we're pleased to be able to finally release the much-anticipated new content and hope everyone is enjoying themselves. |
|
Rooella |
Yeah... Episode 2 was a a huge update... It certainly looks more than Dark Conquest did! Not only did we get new monsters and hunting areas, you guys turned it right around and knocked out a spanking new User Interface - I actually found it hard to get used to the new pet controls and monster spawns but I am a bit of a blonde when it comes to change! hehe Speaking of changes and Epsiode 2 tho... We did get a sneaky little update no-one was excepcting. It's what we've all come to know as the "Auto-Loot" system. It upset a large number of people! We're all looking forward to receiving the 'fix' from Korea. What are your thoughts on this change? |
|
Kyzah |
I definitely understand and empathize with your frustrations over this change, and I'm very appreciative of the Korean Dev Team's willingness to respond to our community's concerns by agreeing to provide us with a localized server flag to re-enable this system on our servers. |
|
Rooella |
It's good to hear that even the folk in Korea care about our wierd ways! :) Unfortunatley this wasn't the only set-back we had when Episode 2 went live. A number of "Known Issues" were published, such as the hyperlinked text abnormality, flickering chat window, missing windows and various mac bugs. Which of these is your biggest concern? |
|
Kyzah |
The alignment issue with hyperlinked text, since the affected interfaces are an integral part of typical gameplay; I believe we're close to having a resolution on this issue and look forward to seeing it resolved. |
|
Rooella |
Yeah - it makes me scared to use the teleporters!!! So I guess you're looking forward to Episode 3? |
|
Kyzah |
To be honest, I haven't really thought about the next episode as I'm still very much in the put-Episode-2-to-bed mind-frame; I'll be interested to see what they come up with next, though! :) |
|
Rooella |
I have to say... I'm starting to get nervous of game updates. They tend to change so much of the game... which is good! It keeps the game fresh... but it happens overnight, you log in and it's like "wooah... did I load up the wrong game?" Can you provide our readers with any details on currently "Considered" changes to Lineage for Episode 3? |
|
Kyzah |
Sure, but then I'd have to kill you! ;) I actually haven't received any details regarding the next episode; this is a better question for Capt, but good luck getting anything out of him! ;) |
|
Rooella |
I have beer... he can be bribed! ;) Hmmm... I was reading your Q&A on the official Lineage website a few weeks back... You were asked what your favourite US server was- but you wouldn't give... Are you ready to let the world know this yet? |
|
Kyzah |
I'd honestly prefer not to say on which server(s) I predominately play, so as not to add further fuel to the "Server Wars" fires we see in the forums and elsewhere. |
|
Rooella |
Awwwe... Go on... |
|
Kyzah |
Sorry, no. :) But I will say that I've generally enjoyed the time I've spent on all of the servers and appreciate each of their unique flavors and populations. |
|
Rooella |
Hmmz... What about your favourite character class? |
|
Kyzah |
Again, I'd prefer not to say; substitute in "Class" for "Server" above. However, I've tried them all, leveled one to 50, and as to which I choose when I play, it really depends on what sort of play style I'm in the mood for, including whether I'm soloing or group-hunting. |
|
Rooella |
Wow... do you ever get any work done? *grins* It has been speculated by the community in recent months that NC Austin are trying to urge customers to move to the Lands of Aden server. Do you have something to say to the devoted players of Depairdu and Ken Rauhel? |
|
Kyzah |
You're not forgotten or forsaken, as many tend to believe. I believe the mistaken assumption here might be that we simply don't care about those servers as LoA is "our baby" and we've "got something to prove" as far as Seoul is concerned, which is simply not true. If we seem to be encouraging of players to move the LoA server, it's because we actually have the ability to tailor that server to our community's wishes. |
|
Rooella |
I still think a non-PVP LoA rule-set would be sweet... *hint hint* If you were able to make 1 change to Lineage of your own choice, what would it be? |
|
Kyzah |
Ack! Only one?! I'd like to see additional quests added, both ongoing, such as Lyra and the Orc Totems, and one-offs like the level/class specific quests. |
|
Rooella |
Why is that? |
|
Kyzah |
Simply to provide more options, more involvement, and something different to do on an ongoing basis. |
|
Rooella |
I ask such dumb questions lol. Where do you think the future lies for Lineage 1? |
|
Kyzah |
Pork Bellies! Owait, that's Trading Places... ;) |
|
Rooella |
*dials the local loony-bin* |
|
Kyzah |
I foresee it only getting bigger and better over time, both globally from our team members in Seoul and locally with our development on the Lands of Aden server; it's hard to tell exactly where it'll go, but I look forward to being a part of it. :) |
|
Rooella |
Well... It certainly looks like you've been very working hard over the past 2 1/2 years, so I thank you greatly for taking the time out of your hectic schedule to talk with me today. Lineage has seen many changes over the years... it's pleasing to see it still has a bright future ahead! Before I let you go, there's somthing that's been on my mind for some time... |
|
Kyzah |
Oh dear, I do hope it's not one of those face-huggers from Alien; I've heard those are pretty nasty... |
|
Rooella |
What *did* happen to Lena, Core, Scortch and Visigoth? |
|
Kyzah |
Well, only Rock can say for certain, but I have my suspicions; I haven't noticed any new Soylent Snax in the breakroom, though... |
|
Rooella |
*laughs* Well thanks again Kyzah... It's been a pleasure! I hope to speak to you again soon! |
|
Kyzah |
Likewise, Roo; I appreciate the opportunity. :) |
Ken's recently married and much loved EE & BB aka ElvanEscence and BlueBerries (ken's physics master o.o;) agreed to be interviewed (returning favour^~*)
Appleseede's fellow fruit has been playing since he was a freshmen in high school, making it a good 4 years, in which he has had a multiple number of characters (lost count)
![]()
and belonged to a number of various pledges (lost count also o.o). He finally settled with the mage,

Leveling it to an impressive 55 and belongs to BeyondThePale with the lovely ElvanEscence (lvl 52)~ EE having been playing for about 1.5yrs has always been an elf (full dex)
Blueberries had slightly strange base stats for a mage: 17 con, 17 int, 18 wis. So this means he has pretty good hit points, but he didn't start with full int so he'll need to get to level 58 before he has maximum points! He's currently residing at level 55/56 since his mana points are so bad for his level that he's delevelling & levelling again in an effort to try and get them back to normal.
Both BB & EE have tried the other servers, but as BB put it "I played on DEP when i first started for about 30 seconds; i walked out in town and i saw a pk fest so i said; screw this server o.o".
Go BB ~ As for LOA? "I despise it" ElvanEscence had tried LOA for about 3 months but found that they had it too easy; all her friends being on Ken, she moved.
Both hail from the USA, and have tried other mmorpg's such as FinalFantasy and Ragnarok. As far as Lineage II goes? ElvanEscence "I did almsot quit and go to Lin2 tho, there's no temptation to go there now"
Apart from meeting eachother, BB & EE's most memorable moments were hard to list in one night; best drops/items owned then? ..."when EE landed into my life v.v... and a diamond ring.." For EE, not diamond, but BB v
![]()

Eventually we did find out that BB's prized item is a +7 som (no clues to who made it ^~") ElvanEscence's ALA is the most prized item she has, as the a-scroll which made it was given to her by the closest friends she has on Ken (other than her prized BB) C2 & Tarsmi. Dark Elder Sandals and charms are what they both would like to have at some point in the future.
The future? Their goal is now to enjoy the game and the people; EE & BB will be leveling their cats and hunting with friends~ and once the great destroy spell has been gotten?..

Many thanks and much love are to be given including "CainnaTwo, Tarsmi and Ying, other than BB v -and my daughter massadurah" ~ "Fyreblade, Lordnemesis, Ophelia, Aristegui, Bobstoops, Sfxs, Herokirby..Ooelfoo...ie.the whole of the BeyondThePale bp"
BlueBerries and ElvanEscence are two people which Ken are lucky to have. Not only are they fun and fantastic people, they are good hearted, kind and talented; Goes to show that the game is no fun without the kind of people in it ~ We wish them both all the best of luck and success in the future, both in real life and in the game ^^**

Once again we have to say good-bye to a member of the Lineage 1 Austin team. Sadly, Artic Sun is leaving us and heading back up north; As the sun sets over the hills of Texas for the last time for our content writer & editor, we speak to him about his time at NCsoft.

Rooella |
Well... How was it? |
|
Arctic Sun |
It? Texas, it? Austin, it? City of Heroes, it? James McMurtry, it? The Exteel beta, it? The new episode of Heroes, it? Oh, you mean Lineage, don’t you?
Actually, the whole experience – heading down from snowy Canada to hot-hot-hot Texas, and joining the NCsoft family, and being apart of so many great games – especially Lineage – was a tremendous experience. I’ve learned a great deal, and hope I helped out where and when I could. |
|
Rooella |
Yeh, it's a pretty crazy crowd back there!
What did you find most challenging? |
|
Arctic Sun |
Two things – one was being part of so large a company (previously, the company I worked for topped out at about 7 people). And the Community. All communities have their challenges, of course, and I had to learn to dance quickly with each one. I would say the Lineage folks are the hardest to please, but that’s OK because they are hardcore gamers, and when you do something right by them, it feels really good. And when you fail them, they let you know fast :) But if you’re honest and hard working, they’ll give you another chance. |
|
Rooella |
The guys can be total goofs... It must have been fun! What good things are you going to take away with you? |
|
Arctic Sun |
Fracas’s music, Nomad’s books (books, not boots, dammit), Mistryl’s kindness, and Impact’s patience, and Roo’s chocolate…
A really good working experience, and some great friends, both in game and out of game. |
|
Rooella |
Funny... Roo thought Fracas ate all the chocolate... So tell us, is he just as nuts in person? |
|
Arctic Sun |
Fracas? Honestly, no. He’s far worse. Like a fruit bat. |
|
Rooella |
What about Mistryl? She as hot as they say? |
|
Arctic Sun |
Hah. Mistryl was the second person I met at NCsoft, after Tsirin, and she has been wonderful to work with. She’s quiet, although Nomad claimed Mistryl would curse like a sailor on occasion, but she’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. And she’s a cutie, all right. |
|
Rooella |
Of all the staff who've come and gone over the years, who did/will you miss the most? |
|
Arctic Sun |
This is a tricky question, as I was in Austin for only about a year and a half, and spent most of my time on City of Heroes. So if I say I really miss working with Awry, you’ll probably have no idea what I’m talking about. I think as far as L1 is concerned (and I know it’s all you care about! :) ), CaptSturm’s departure is the biggest void. But I think he did a great job mentoring Fracas, and I think Fracas’s return to L1 will be even more passionate and inspired this time around.
But the person I’ll miss most by leaving Austin will be CuppaJo, the former CoH (and now on TR) Community Manager. Definitely one of my best friends in Austin. |
|
Rooella |
Yeh... Roo's heard good things 'bout CuppaJo... but Roo would much rather have a CuppaTea o.o Milk, two sugars ty v.v
What advice would you offer to your successors... other than to run away? |
|
Arctic Sun |
I think you need to be honest with the players, and develop a level of trust with them. You have to be able to take criticism without flipping out, but you also need to stand your ground when they are asking too much of you.
And play the game. Play the game. Play the game. |
|
Rooella |
Well, I know you played when you got the chance, how did you find it? |
|
Arctic Sun |
I did. Never as much as I wanted, but y’know, I was on Lineage, Exteel, Dungeon Runners, and City of Heroes. That’s a lot of ground to cover. |
|
Rooella |
Yep, all those "Busy!" IM's qq
You were possibly, the worst Knight I ever met when ya started tho... That said, I didn't make a very good heal-mage either. Running away from mops on talking island was too funny o.o You played other classes too, right? |
|
Arctic Sun |
Well, I started with a Dark Elf, but didn’t get very far. I then switched to a Knight and played that whenever I could. Oh, and I also had a GM character with the form of a Mambo Rabbit – that bunny was *great!* |
|
Rooella |
hehe - yeh bunny rocked... He could squish GMFracas with his bare feet o.o
If you could single-handedly change something about Lineage, what would it be? |
|
Arctic Sun |
Well, two things – I would magically make the bots disappear, because, well, that would be the thing that so many players want most of all. But unfortunately that’s magic, and bots are a daily fight.
The second would be that I would make the level grind less cumbersome. I know that as a GM I can magically make myself whatever level I want, but I don’t think games need to be work, and sometimes that level grind sure feels like work. I also know that some people really like that, and without it it wouldn’t be Lineage … just personal preference, y’know? |
|
Rooella |
Yep. While yer at it, get me to 55 plz ty :P I actually hate the whole levelling thing... for me the game's all about the folks in it... and we have a great laugh.
That said, I know it's why folks get sooo mad about the bot problem. We spend years making our characters, only for those bozo's to cheat their way up >.< makes Roo mad! |
|
Arctic Sun |
Yep, bots are evil. |
|
Rooella |
Well, it's almost time to say goodbye! |
|
Arctic Sun |
Man, I thought you talked a lot, but apparently it’s all me. |
|
Rooella |
Heh. Well buddy, thanks for all of your hard work over the past year-and-a-bit, and for stopping by to talk with us! |
|
Arctic Sun |
Thanks to all the people who helped me on the Lineage project, very much including Kyzah, Scout, Sylvia, and Mary. And thanks a ton to you, Roo, for all the time you’ve invested in L1 and the community. And a final big thanks to all the players out there – first and foremost, we do this work for you guys. |
|
Rooella |
Yeh, those folks rocked! Thanks again man & goodluck with the future! |
We are proud to bring to our readers, an exclusive behind-the scenes look at how this years "Mambo Equinox" spring event was made possible.
Nomad, Fracas, Impact and Arctic Sun took some time out of their busy schedule to stop by and talk to us.
Read on for the full article...
| Rooella: |
Thanks for taking the time out of your schedules to come and talk to us (looks behind... now where DID i put Elvo and Szeto?) today we know you're all pretty busy filing your nails, or doing whatever it is you NC folk do in preperation for E3... You've come to enlighten our readers and give us a useful insight of what goes on behind the scenes of Lineage: Dark Conquest You know you're going to run an event... given the time of year we can safely assume that bunny rabbits and other general springy-things are in order. How do you decide what do to? |
|
Fracas: |
Well, as with any event, whether bunny related or not, the first question is always "what's in the toolbox?" |
|
Rooella: |
Uhhh.. ok, the first dumb question of the day... What exactly is "the toolbox" ? |
|
Fracas: |
it's basically what you have to work with. |
|
Rooella: |
Now i'm getting visions of that MacGyver dude building tanks out of rubber bands and 1/2 filled gas cans... |
|
Fracas: |
Well, we knew we had Rabbits and eggs... So knowing that those resources were appropriate and available to us, it was a matter of deciding what to do with them... We could literally hide the eggs, but with cows, pigs and slimes everywhere, that might not work... unless we put them in a chest of sorts, i guess, but what kind of Bunny runs around putting eggs in boxes and then hiding boxes? It's not economical. |
|
Rooella: |
Well, she would have to either buy, or build the chests... and we all know the giran wood-chopping NPC is broken... |
|
Fracas: |
lol For this event, Impact came up with the idea of allowing people to become a rabbit, specifically the Mambo Rabbit. |
|
Rooella: |
Great! So we have a fun morph? |
|
Fracas: |
Yep... which would only be fun for a few seconds... so we need more!!! |
|
Rooella: |
What made you put the morph on an amulet as opposed to using the already existing bunny-morph? |
|
Fracas: |
Well, like you said, the bunny morph already exists and it's not the big funky Mambo Rabbit... by putting the morph on an amulet we could make a reward out of it... but a reward needs a task. With the egg-gathering thing, it's just so screamingly fitting. |
|
Rooella: |
I guess it wouldn't be the "Mambo Equinox" without the big bunny! Ok so we have the bunny morph and we want to hide eggs... but the wood-chopper ain't making the special chests for us... what do you do? |
|
Fracas: |
Thinking back to the Halloween Event, there was a lot of feedback on the front of "random" and "having event stuff everywhere". |
|
Rooella: |
By that you mean not limiting the event to a specific area? |
|
Fracas: |
Exactly... Even if we did do the "hide eggs in a box" thing, it didn't sit random enough with me to go for it. I wanted this event to be EVERYWHERE. |
|
Rooella: |
So the natural progression from that would be walking chickens to lay the eggs... and oddly, we have those in-game! |
|
Fracas: |
Yeah! But they don't lay eggs constantly... which sounded easy enough to make happen. |
|
Rooella: |
usually they just cross roads and confuse philosophers and stuff. |
|
Fracas: |
It's amazing how many times you think of something that seems easy to do, only to find out that it's amazingly difficult or not at all possible. So I'm on our internal QA server summoning chickens like crazy... and none of them are laying eggs. |
|
Rooella: |
LOL... ya gotta feed 'em dude! |
|
Fracas: |
Giran square was literally COVERED in chickens. |
|
Rooella: |
What? as opposed to cows? :s |
|
Fracas: |
I didn't want to feed them! They were set-up to thrive without food... but it wasn't working. |
|
Rooella: |
Ooh... self-sustaining chickens. You could be rich with that idea you know? |
|
Fracas: |
It was back to the drawing board... |
|
Rooella: |
Ultimately you solved the problem...? |
|
Fracas: |
We were actually on a different track, trying to justify the horrific slaughter of birds, when i stumbled upon the solution to make them lay the eggs. |
|
Rooella: |
O.o |
|
Fracas: |
Some text files had changed... we worked it out based on the fact that chickens weren't laying eggs on their own and then bam! it was working after all. By this point Giran was covered in chickens and eggs. |
|
Rooella: |
We're back to the philosophers again huh? Ok... so where on earth did the foxes come from? |
|
Fracas: |
We had hens and ducks everywhere, they were laying eggs, and people could turn into the Mambo Rabbit. I was liking where this was going. In addition, we were able to incorporate the egg-raising event, which was a small spin-off an event held in Korea a few months back. There is a good chunk of content here, and from our observations it was looking pretty fun... BUT... there was nothing to smash. |
|
Rooella: |
yeah! we gotta smack stuff! |
|
Fracas: |
Totally. A peaceful event would probably end up in a violent revolt. Is that irony? |
|
Rooella: |
and because foxes eat chickens... |
|
Fracas: |
We had already decided that the chickens would be "lost"... and with "lost" comes "danger". This seems like a heck of a situation for any kind of predator and we've got foxes in the toolbox. |
|
Rooella: |
hehe. From the sneaky-fox event no-doubt? |
|
Fracas: |
That's where the inspiration came from yeah. So to back up a bit, we like to hit a few things when designing an event. 1. Something different... obviously. 2. Loot! We all love loot... foxes were dropping good items, plus there was some good stuff in the eggs that players could hatch. 3. Smash. We GOTTA have stuff to smash. |
|
Rooella: |
I have to say, I was shocked at just how many scrolls were dropping. Was there a reason for this particular selection of loot? |
|
Fracas: |
Scrolls had a few things going for them. They're consumable... Nobody throws away an enchant scroll - they can always be used, "burnt up", "applied", however you want to look at it. |
|
Rooella: |
Burnt up... at least when it comes to my items :s Great stuff... now we know how you came up wit the theme... how on earth do you incorporate that into the existing story-line? |
|
Arctic Sun: |
Heh. Great Question! |
|
Rooella: |
Ahh... you're still awake over there then Arctic? |
|
Arctic Sun: |
So.. to prepare I read through all the past fiction that everyone else had come up in fleshing out some of the history of Aden. |
|
Rooella: |
You go delving through the archives? :) |
|
Arctic Sun: |
I wanted the Mambo Rabbit and Pirate island to be a central point in the legend/build up, but not *the* central point because neither was key to the event, and we didn't want to confuse the players. I knew from the event documents that there would be lost hens and lost ducks, various new NPCs with specific functions, and of course the hungry foxes. From that, I worked up a rough story that would tie those things together. In doing so, I was able to help Fracas change a little of the in-game dialogue to synch up, and helped name the various "levels" of Eggs. |
|
Rooella: |
Hmmm... I'm starting to feel sorry for them now >.< |
|
Arctic Sun: |
For who? |
|
Rooella: |
The poor little hungry foxes :s |
|
Fracas: |
SMASH THEM! |
|
Arctic Sun: |
Hah. |
|
Rooella: |
aaaaaaaanyway... |
|
Arctic Sun: |
I then circulated my sketch ideas to the team (including Scout and Mistryl)... got their feedback and redrafted the tale of the poor Spring Festival Captain. We also have a Creative Services Department who deal with the fine artwork. |
|
Rooella: |
Drawing the bunnies? |
|
Arctic Sun: |
Yes - on the banner :) |
|
Rooella: |
Yeah... he a fat bunny too! I had one like him once. |
|
Fracas: |
I love that banner. That rabbit's facial expression is just too funny. |
|
Rooella: |
That's the event proceedings organised, a back-story and some pretty artwork. What happens next? |
|
Fracas: |
Next I update my documentation... being that what we originally wanted is never the same as what we end up with. |
|
Rooella: |
Can you give us an example...? |
|
Fracas: |
Well, we originally wanted it to be the rabbit himself in the town giving the quest. |
|
Rooella: |
Oh! As the NPC? |
|
Fracas: |
Yeah, we couldn't do that due to technical limitations. |
|
Rooella: |
Really? Wow, that's interesting. |
|
Fracas: |
I also wanted to create an assortment of Easter Baskets, but that was also limited for various reasons. |
|
Rooella: |
Now... we've gone through the toolbox, and you've broke the internal QA server with all of your chickens and eggs... |
|
Fracas: |
The next documentation is the uber detailed line by line changelog that represents "lineage before event" and "lineage after event"... this goes to Impact. I take one last look at my stuff to ensure it's working well enough to start QA testing, I update the internal test servers, and give Impact the go ahead... He has to think of all of the things I didn't... |
|
Rooella: |
You mean like cows eating the eggs? :P |
|
Impact: |
Right. Then QA goes through and figures out how the actual functionality of the event matches up with the documentation. |
|
Rooella: |
Is this usually the case, or is Fracas's coding that wobbly? ;-) |
|
Fracas: |
Hey! >.< |
|
Arctic Sun: |
heh... it's just good game design. The way a writer *always* needs an editor... A dev *always* needs QA. |
|
Impact: |
More eyes are always good. The designer of the content will naturally have a blind spot for errors in it. |
|
Fracas: |
I originally had the the Spring Captain asking for help finding his "Foul Friends". |
|
Rooella: |
Yeah... it's like an army of dirty farm animals O.o |
|
Arctic Sun: |
We like to think our fowl are clean. |
|
Impact: |
Minor text errors always crop up, sometimes the way an NPC reacts to player interaction doesn't work the way it's meant to... |
|
Fracas: |
I also had the turn in numbers mixed up so the actual number of required eggs didn't match what he was asking for... and with the way I had the lost birds setup it was actually more rewarding to kill them than to wait for them to lay an egg. |
|
Rooella: |
Like if you killed the hen you'd get exp and a drop? Yeah - i see... |
|
Fracas: |
Yeah - we had to add a law penalty and decrease the amount of eggs they were carrying. |
|
Rooella: |
It would have been uber cool if they had the teleport effect when they came and left!!! |
|
Fracas: |
Magic Chickens? Cool! |
|
Rooella: |
Just how far in advance does all of this work have to start? |
|
Fracas: |
It depends on the complexity and how much i've learned. Halloween took about 3 full weeks, this event took about 5 full days. After day 5 though, there's about another 3-5 of bug-fixing and re-testing the fixes... that is after QA has started blasting it apart with their keen breaking skillz. |
|
Rooella: |
I guess that explains the problems we've encountered working on the upcoming mayday event...? |
|
Nomad: |
Exactly... we need at *least* a week to test or Impact gets cranky... |
|
Rooella: |
Understandably so! |
|
Fracas: |
The last bug-fixes and re-testing of them was going on yesterday. |
|
Rooella: |
*cough* aaaanway... I don't want to give too much info away about mayday yet - so we'll just stick to the spring event :) |
|
Fracas: |
Roger that! :) |
|
Rooella: |
Ok, well we've had an idea, created a back-story, put required changes through development and QA testing... that leaves external test... Who publishes the content there? |
|
Fracas: |
That would be me. |
|
Rooella: |
(You heard it folks - when the test server's down... it's all Fracas's fault!) |
|
Nomad: |
heh |
|
Rooella: |
When or how do you decide whether to test externally or not? |
|
Nomad: |
We always test externally. |
|
Rooella: |
Not *always* right... some of the events have run simultaneously... right? |
|
Fracas: |
During internal testing... it depends on the event content as to whether or not all the content will appear on external test before it hits live. |
|
Nomad: |
*shuts up* |
|
Fracas: |
Timer intensive events don't always get their full glory on test because let's say we've set all the timers to kick off a week early so that everything happens on external test... It gets tested, and works - however those aren't the same timers that we're gonna use on live because they're a week early. |
|
Impact: |
Yeah, it's this kind of thing that gives me headaches. Even when it's been tested backwards and forwards, it has to change for live servers. |
|
Rooella: |
Tell me about it... my brain's hurting just thinking about it. So the timers in this event were for the intervals, right? |
|
Fracas: |
Yeah, so we had to make sure we tested the heck out of them both internally and externally! (not that we normally don't test the heck out of things, but in this case we were exceptionally obsessive about it.) |
|
Rooella: |
Changing the subject slightly... where the heck did this Vigor stuff come from??? |
|
Fracas: |
It was part of the event when it occured in Korea. |
|
Rooella: |
Ahh I see... already in the toolbox? and we thought you loved us *sniffs* |
|
Fracas: |
I take no credit for that set... although I really want it. |
|
Rooella: |
Yeah but it's uber expensive... you'll have to save up :P So it's deployment time... |
|
Nomad: |
Which means the players start on it - and this is where I come in! |
|
Rooella: |
Awwe - they make you work? That's just wrong. |
|
Nomad: |
I compile a daily report from the message boards and send it to Fracas and send him any urgent items throughout the day... oh and calm him down when he reaches for his shotgun! When players find something that needs to be fixed, the dev-internal-external process starts over again. For this event, we re-published twice I think... with changes that were specifically due to player feedback. |
|
Rooella: |
Bug fixes and stuff? |
|
Nomad: |
They're not always bugs - the loot drops weren't bugged for example - but things that we felt needed to be changed to improve the event. |
|
Fracas: |
An example being the abundance of fresh eggs vs. the one reward - originally they were just a tasty snack. |
|
Rooella: |
So you turned them into candy-type things (with the funky effects... brave etc.) |
|
Fracas: |
yeppers. Originally, on external test, you could only turn in fresh eggs for 2 things... the rabbit amulet and an uber nutrition treat... that nobody enjoyed :-\ There were also some areas with waaaaaay too many foxes and others with waaaaay too few. Impact and I spent a lot of time spying on External Test and seeing what needed to be done. |
|
Rooella: |
You did all of this in just the 3 days on external test? |
|
Fracas: |
Was it only 3 days? it felt like years! :) I drove poor Impact nuts! |
|
Rooella: |
Ok... so the event has played out... what happens now...? Clean up? Now everyone's complaining that you've taken their brave eggs away... why can't you just leave them? |
|
Fracas: |
Well... every item we create as a special ID assigned to it... well every item, period. So I collect the ID's of the specific event items and submit them to our database team - they create a script and we then perform some test "clean ups" on our internal servers. |
|
Rooella: |
But how come you don't always delete the items? for example - I still have some Christmas Pie in storage... What's goin' on there? |
|
Fracas: |
When we're able to leave an item in-game it's because it already exists - and isn't a special thing from the toolbox... It's unique ID already exists so it won't get over-written. |
|
Rooella: |
I see so things like Christmas Pie, Vigor Belts and Christmas cards are permanent items - that are always present? |
|
Fracas: |
Yes - you Christmas Card will always be a Christmas card - the special ID doesn't change. But what happens when Episode 8 comes out and it includes the same ID's scout used to create the holiday pies... and weird people like Roo have kept theirs in the storage dwarf for the past 4 years? |
|
Rooella: |
I see - so if you didn't remove the eggs - we might have found that come the next epsiode publish, instead of 20 brave eggs in our inventory, we have 20 uber-rare spellbooks? I can see how that could really mess things up. So you're saying my pie might turn into something one day? O.o I know it's been festering in there for a long time... but... |
|
Fracas: |
They log in and find their pie is gone and it's been replaced with a chicken foot... exactly! |
|
Rooella: |
My pie might mutate into something else one day? O.o |
|
Fracas: |
Nah - your pie will be just fine... although just to be sure i'm going to submit a request to delete everything in your inventory... just to be safe. |
|
Rooella: |
O.O I probably wouldn't notice... my character is crippled anyway - i die to stupid things like Ghouls qq |
|
Fracas: |
hahaha |
|
Rooella: |
Well I have to say this has been fascinating - but i'm afraid we can't possibly take any more of your time. I'd like to thank you all for taking the time to come and talk to us - especially during your lunch hours!!! |
|
Fracas: |
Uh-oh... Roo's hungry. |
|
Arctic Sun: |
Thanks Roo. |
|
Impact: |
*waves* |
|
Fracas: |
Thanks! |
|
Nomad: |
:) |
This interview with CaptSturm was originally started back in December but it's publish was delayed due to Capt's very busy schedule. I'd like to thank Kyzah, as always, for her efforts with beatin' Capt' up over getting back to us!
As for the rest of the Lineage 1 team back at NC Austin... Watch out folks... Roo's a-gonna get ya! ;-)
|
Rooella |
Hey there! great to catch you... are you looking forward to Januarys HoC? |
|
CaptSturm |
Well, getting to this late, I'll say that I always look forward to the change of chatting with the Lineage fans. With our new schedule of HoCs (rotating among the other fine NC products) it seems long overdue. I enjoyed this past one as always. |
|
Rooella |
It's been a tough few months for Lineage huh? I'm dying to know tho... what did you think of the player of the year contest we ran? |
|
CaptSturm |
I gotta tell you--I have enormous appreciation and respect for the fan site operators. Just the sheer fact that you put all the extra effort into creating the site is incredible, but the contests are way above and beyond. I think its obvious the Lineage players really appreciate the work you all do, but let me state it loudly for the record...YOU ROCK! |
|
Rooella |
Umm... *blush*
Any suggestions for next years? :) |
|
CaptSturm |
Preferably something that involves elephants and snowboards. |
|
Rooella |
Elephants? Umm O.o I'll bear that in mind...
Okay... i know you're gonna hate me but i just have to ask the question... How have the "Water cooler" talks about bringing us all together on one server been going? Any action there at the moment? There are all kinds of roumers floating about right now... I think we're all very excited and anxious to hear what you have come up with! |
|
CaptSturm |
Well, we get together and start scribbling on the white board. We talk about all the collisions, such as character and pet names, we talk about pledge houses and castles and storage concerns. We talk about the mechanics of how a transfer request would work, such as emailing support or building a web page to do that. And who would do it. And does it need art, who does that? And the database hooks, how is that implemented. |
|
Rooella |
Oh go on... Throw me a bone here! plureaaaaaaaaaase? |
|
CaptSturm |
Well, suffice it to say it wouldn't be a piece of cake even if it was decided that we actually wanted to do it. It would be a significant change in operational philosophy that I couldn't make on my own. The main thing is that we be careful not to get ahead of ourselves. We'll consider everything that could make the service better, but we can't ignore the daily tasks of running the service either. |
|
Rooella |
*notes the hoards NC Lawyers making notes on clipboards*
*sniff* sooo not what I was hoping for... A lot of network problems in the last few months... are these now put to bed? |
|
CaptSturm |
A lot of those were unrelated and unexpected-as much as I'd like to promise we won't see any further issues, I'm afraid that'll be a concern with any internet game for the near future. Currently, many ISPs are doing network maintenance that is completely out of our domain and control. However, I think that the network situation will show improvement outside of these anomalies. |
|
Rooella |
Well that has to be good news!
What do you have to say to all of our players who ran off to play *another* game this month? Do you think Lineage will win them back? |
|
CaptSturm |
There's no doubt that some fantastic games have been released lately. I also firmly believe that no other game does a better job of providing a "hook" than Lineage. Some may do equally well, but none does it better. I think the vast majority of the Lineage players, and I mean like 98%, are TRUE Lineage fans and have it in their blood. While they may stray, an awful lot will come back. |
|
Rooella |
How are the other ventures going? CoH, Lin2 etc? Are they as fun and demanding for you as Lineage has been? |
|
CaptSturm |
You know, I can't imagine anything more fun than the times I've had working on Lineage. It was a great opportunity to communicate with the fans and actually implement many great suggestions and drive towards a vision of delivering an environment where players can participate in the process. Lineage 2 is always interesting because it's the sequel and, of course, is incredibly detailed and beautiful. CoH is a great team, the dev guys are incredibly professional and have such a passion about the quality of their work. We also coordinate the PlayNC website publishes, which is less glamorous but crucial to operations.
Looking forward, the Auto Assault team is a blast to work with and they're in the process of creating a game that'll "blow your doors off!" (Sorry, bad pun!). |
|
Rooella |
What about the eagerly awaited Episode 3? It seems like just yesterday Ep2 went live... Are you still activley involved with this, or is scout now taking care of the bulk of it? |
|
CaptSturm |
Aww, you know, it is mainly Scout on this. I poke around to see what's going on and fix things when she breaks them. :^) |
|
Rooella |
Yeah... you gotta watch that one... She's trouble i tell ya!
What's your Tip for 2005 for our Lineage fans? |
|
CaptSturm |
Well, I'd suggest a couple. One, keep providing the great feedback. That stuff gets forwarded on the core dev team in Seoul and is considered for implementation on the LoA server. Second, get a friend to try it. I want to see an increase in numbers over the upcoming year. We'll try and crank out some good events and updates for ya' if you'll do that for me. |
|
Rooella |
So what's it like working with Kyzah AND Scout? I mean.. they're pretty nutty galz... how do you stay sane? |
|
CaptSturm |
Who say's I'm sane? |
|
Rooella |
Ya... we love 'em too!
What ya got Roo for Christmas? |
|
CaptSturm |
Hmm, we don't do presents at my house. It's all about the true reason for the season. :^) However, how 'bout that event that Scout whipped up? Huh? Yeah, I played a bit myself! |
|
Rooella |
Yeah - it was a hoot! Scout gave us pies! mmmmm exceedingly good pie...
Well it's time i got on with smackin' those evil mops! Thanks for taking the time out of your day to talk to us... u rule the roost! ;-) geddit? Roo... roost? ooh nvm. |
Well it's gettin' close ta Christmas and everyone's wondering what Satin Claws has in store for us this year. Who better to ask than the "hound at the helm" himself, Mr Fracas.
As a side note to the rest of the Lineage 1 team back at NC Austin... Where's Roo's presents? >.<
[Read on] for the full story...
|
Rooella |
Hey Fracas. Firstly a HUGE welcome back. You were just getting to grips with things when the mighty NCsoft shake-up occured, and CaptSturm came crashing back in on the party... Where did you go? What did you do?.... did ya miss us? |
|
Fracas |
Well, it so happened that one of our products under development was wanting to create an internal QA department just as my gig as "Lineage guy" was going away. They needed somebody to lead it so I dived in to do so, and that's what I've been doing ever since. It's a fun job, and it wasn't an easy call to leave, but the truth is that I DID miss Lineage and felt my work on it wasn't done...so here I am! Back! Hooray! |
|
Rooella |
Well that sounds pretty cool, but ya'll know that anything that isn't Lineage 1 is evil... How does it feel to be back in the saddle? |
|
Fracas |
You know, it feels pretty good. Although weird at first, I feel the rust shaking off and have had my fair share of "OOH YEAH I REMEMBER THAT!" moments, which are always fun. |
|
Rooella |
We were all pretty bummed-out when you told us we wouldn't see Episode 5 or a Holiday event this year... but apparently you told us a whacking great lie! What's the deal with that man? |
|
Fracas |
Haha did I lie? I did not! I remember saying I was determined to give y'all an event and BAM, here she comes. Well, assuming it doesn't burn to the ground and die on the test server over the weekend.
If I DID lie it's only because I am horrifically mean. |
|
Rooella |
Okay then, we'll let you off... maybe... but what's the deal with Episode 5? What special treats can we expect for the unique US ruleset? |
|
Fracas |
I could make up stuff but I'm not going to. Truth is I need to get it propped up on its feet and running and then spend time learning it.
Once I know it, I can tweak it. I'll do my best to keep y'all updated on this progress. |
|
Rooella |
Speaking of the special stuff... Just before you were shoved into the land of QA you had created some rather unique (and frackin' awesome if I do say so myself) content for us... The Trial of Doom.
Can we expect more things like this in the future? |
|
Fracas |
Hah, I hope so. The Trial of Doom was A LOT of fun to implement, I really felt like I was doing something different. I was nervous about how it'd go over, but from what I understand, it went over pretty well? Maybe?
If nothing else it gave me a chance to dig up and dabble in every single Lineage tool we have, which is fun for me, so yes, I fully intend on trying to produce more content like that in the future. |
|
Rooella |
Aaanyway, we've kinda gone of the point a bit here... Christmas...
Will there be pie? |
|
Fracas |
Yes. Lots of it. |
|
Rooella |
Woo! What ya got Roo for Christmas? huh? huh? :D |
|
Fracas |
Hahahah NOTHING. Well...yeah, ok, NOTHING. Hahaha still funny! |
|
Rooella |
When's Episode 1 coming? :P |
|
Fracas |
NEVER AGAIN! |
|
Rooella |
When's Episode 6 coming? |
|
Fracas |
I think it'd be funny to get it out before Episode 5. Then again, whenever I think something is funny, it's usually a really bad idea. |
|
Rooella |
A little birdie told me that ya'll were working on a grand-scale server consolidation of doom... That still in the pipe? |
|
Fracas |
That is something I was working on before I left and it may be something I try to work on again.
To be honest though, I'm not sure, quit distracting me from Episode 5! |
|
Rooella |
How many roads must a man walk down? |
|
Fracas |
Wow this song was going through my head all day! No kidding!
A bunch. |
|
Rooella |
Well we'd better let Fracas get on, else we'll NEVER see Episode 5.... EVER muhahaha.
Thanks for taking the time out of yer busy schedule Mr F, and welcome back. You ROCK! |
|
Fracas |
*runs* |
|
Rooella |
Before ya go... can we keep Mistryl?
Fracas? Hellooooo? |
This interview with NCsoft's Mistryl (Former Community Co-ordinator for Lineage I US and, may I say, one very hot babe!) was originally conducted in January this year. I would like to take this opportunity to DEEPLY apologise to her for the delay in publishing it. Mistryl was community co-ordinator from Jan 2005 until Feb 2006 and did a fantastic job.
So, just to make her feel better... I'll pretend to be the dark elf in this picture ^^
Read on for the full article...
|
Rooella |
Hello Mistryl and thank you for talking with us today! It's certainly been an action-packed year huh? What was the most challenging experience you had as the Lineage 1 community co-ordinator? |
|
Mistryl |
It's been a fantastic year! I would say the most challenging time would be any time the community had an unexpected reaction to an event or publish that I had high hopes for. It's really tough to see players disappointed, and I always tried my best to ease concerns and make sure the feedback made it to the team. |
|
Rooella |
Yes... there have been a few outcrys! Still everything works out in the end ^^ Have you enjoyed your time in this role? |
|
Mistryl |
I have definitely enjoyed my time working with the Lineage community and fan sites! Lineage players are the most dedicated, knowledgeable, and passionate players I have ever seen. And they seem to have a special fondness for pie. The Lineage team has also made working on the game a blast. Scout and Fracas always keep me on my toes, and Kyzah knows the game and community inside and out. Both the team and the players have taught me a lot about how to best support a community. |
|
Rooella |
Pies? Did someone say pies? *drools* What about your best moment? What has really stood out? |
|
Mistryl |
My brief possession of Antharas stands out as one of my favorite memories! (Antharas appeared as "Mistryl" for a short time on the Test Server.) I was sad when Scout exorcised me and Antharas returned to his old self. :) I also always enjoyed peeking over Scout's shoulder during a pre-wipe event on the Test Server. Not only would she take player requests for monsters, she humored me when I started shouting, "Baranka! Baranka!" |
|
Rooella |
Ahhh... so that was YOUR fault eh? ^^ Are you going to keep playing Lineage whilst you work on Lin2? |
|
Mistryl |
I will keep playing Lineage. I can't wait to see what Fracas has up his sleeve for the next event! |
|
Rooella |
It really has been wonderful working with you, we're gonna miss ya, but before we let you go we have one question... When will Episode 5 go live? |
|
Mistryl |
*runs away screaming* |
|
Rooella |
It's been an absolute pleasure, we couldn't have done it without you. I've said it before, you ROCK. I know I will definitely miss you... *sniffs* |
|
Mistryl |
I would like to give a huge thank you to our official fan sites LineageOne and LineageDB! You guys have done a phenomenal job for the Lineage community and it is appreciated! |
With Episode 4, History & Memory almost ready to splash onto the US Live servers, we tracked down one of Ncsofts most fearsome employees: Scout AKA “Vampire”.
The following interview was conducted mostly via e-mail. We were however lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet Lineage US’s most infamous publishing co-ordinator face-to-face on the US test server shortly after the episode 4 content was made available for a brief tour.

<Rooella> Just how large is the episode 4 content delivery from Korea and how long does it take to get the initial build installed on to Internal test?
<GMScout> I’d estimate that there are approximately 15,000 new and/or changed files, including both server and client files. As far as the download size, we’re not sure just yet how large that’s going to be, but it will obviously be significant.
<Rooella> How often do these content deliveries tend to occur?
<GMScout> The target schedule is to release an episode approximately every 4 months.
<Rooella> Wow... that's more than I thought, but what about the odd updates we get here and there?
<GMScout> Typically, Korea publishes something every week, whether it’s new content or simply modifications. Our goal is to do the same. However, sometimes circumstances prohibit us from being able to publish weekly and we’re forced to lump a number of weeks into one publish. So the US publish schedule is a little more erratic that Korea, but it all gets published eventually.

| It's almost time for the infamous Capt' to shut-up-shop and move on, but before we let him out of the door, we (maybe) managed to snag him for interrogation. Read on for the [full article] |
Roo: It's been a long and crazy ride huh? You've been involved with Lineage for longer than I can recall... heck you've been involved with Lineage longer than most folks can recall... How long have you been around, and how has it been?
CaptSturm: I joined NCsoft in the summer of 2001. I was hired to simply liaison between the Seoul Dev team and the US support team. It was quickly apparent we needed someone to "take the wheel" and the rest is history. I love(d) working on Lineage and learned an awful lot about what I think is the "right way" to engineer an online game for longevity. It was the first job that I ever worked over 36 hours on (and I was an infantry soldier years back...), but I loved it.
Roo: What has been the hardest part for you?
CaptSturm: A few things. It was hard dealing with the financial realities of the product, it's got a limited user base here in the US and I'd have liked a bigger budget to do more. Missing a company holiday party or two because I was working late (someone always saved me cake though).
Roo: I'll bet you have some good memories too... can you share with us one of your "kodak" moments?
CaptSturm: Well, we have to use other companies to support our games. Sometimes a contractor may provide substandard work that impacts the user base. We don't call out the knuckleheads publicly, but once in a meeting I attended, one of our network managers tore into one of our vendors--it was awesome. It was great to see that guard dog protection of our service by our network guys.
Roo: You've always been the players "favourite" NC spokesperson, why do you think this is?
CaptSturm: I guess its because I make an effort and that I don't talk AT y'all, I talk WITH you. I listen and tell you the truth, good or bad. Worst case, I'll not answer something that just doesn't have a good answer. I respect you as people and I think most players appreciate that and return that respect.
Roo: Of all the staff who've come and gone over the years, who did you miss the most?
CaptSturm: Geez, most of them. I loved Kyzah to death, we were on the project together for a while. Mistryl is fantastic and is always so cheerful you can't help but smile around her. Fracas is great, if a little on the crazy side. I think Scout is one of the most capable people around as well. I've had a couple of supervisors leave that I miss a ton. Too many to list.
Roo: What advice would you offer to your successors?
CaptSturm: Be passionate about the game. Listen, but don't rush to action every time. Don't promise what you can't deliver. Get back in a quick publish schedule. Hammer on the bot users (since I'm leaving and can be a little less PC I'll say it: If you're a bot user, you flat out suck. And I hope you finally somehow understand what you are and how utterly pathetic that is. Finally, watch your temper and watch what you say in front of the players...
Roo: You're bound to miss Lineage. Will you still play?
CaptSturm: Yes.
Roo: What will you miss the most after you leave?
CaptSturm: I have so many things left undone on the LoA project--I'll miss working on that.
Roo: How many fingers am I holding up?
CaptSturm: Eleven
Roo: Damn, you celebrating already? O.o
CaptSturm: No, that was last night. Today I'm recovering...owwww...
Roo: Well dude, we all wish you the best of luck with your new path, and hope you'll stop by and see us from time-to-time?
CaptSturm: Perhaps--I need to let NC do their thing. Hopefully, you'll be hearing good things about CaptSturm at my new gig.
Roo: Heh, for sure! On that note, we'd better let ya outta here before something breaks *looks at Impact and grins*
CaptSturm: Thanks to everyone. I think you're an awesome player community and wish you all the best.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Lance "CaptSturm" Stites for his efforts these past years, and wish him all the best for the future.
The following is an interview of Seiki, The Prince of the Spirits BloodPledge.
In my earlier article, we showed how he organized a unified army to attack Aden Castle and successfully led his allies to victory.
Read on for the full story...
Nukata: Thank you for letting me ask questions. First of all, could you introduce yourself?
Seiki: I remade the character three years ago from the wish that I wanted to become a lord of a castle and formed Spirits Pledge. Afterwards, while moving from one server to another with the members, we gradually increased the number of companions and acquired the knowledge of the war. After we came to the Altair server, We came to do the war activity in full scale. I have the keen interest in the strategy and the tactics as we attend wars. Moreover, I wish that i boast, and I exist high and fairly in the arena of war.
I am enjoying every day filled with the achievement feeling now at the time of surpassed the target, though I had a hard time very much by becoming Lv50 with a royal character.
Nukata: The main readers are players of the US server. Tell us about your blood pledge please.
Seiki: Spirits Pledge assumes the exchange with the companion is valued and wishes to enjoy every aspects of Lineage as its motto. I want to try daily huntings, pledge events and, in the future, challenge the dragons with the companion who can enjoy the roll play.
Up to now, I have attended wars as I believe it is one important element to enjoy Lineage. I acted aiming at original war power in the Altair server, and it is experienced to become a lord of a castle several times. As the srongest power, so-called Comets, has hostility against our pledge, we have had friendly relationships with other powers temporarily. However, we
take the policy of the keep away from any powers. Because, when temporizing and merging with them, we would not have occasions to have wars and be bored. However, we will keep making an effort still to become stronger in the future because the pledge is small and the war skill is also immature.
Nukata: Please list pledges and leaders of those pledges, with whom you fought together in this Aden Seige.
Seiki:
(original alliance with our pledge)
Wing of Light Pledge, Royal Mucha
The Chivalries Pledge, Royal Yuujyou
(CS/NF Alliance)
Crystal Stars Pledge, Royal DeadRock
TADAS Pledge, Royal HiddenDragon
Blue Planet Pledge, Royal Nefiru
(Altair Blessed Alliance)
Rondelay Music of Dawn Pledge, Royal AregasGulay
Original Sin Pledge, Royal Highness
Meeting to Keep Green Future, FounderM
(Other poers)
Pigeon Pledge, Royal Peka
Blue Dragon Pledge, Royal Gorua
Furthermore, numerous pledges supported us in this war.
Nukata: Do you often coorporate with other pledges with whom you fought together this time?
Seiki: The Wing of Light and The Chivalries of the alliance are companions who always fight jointly.
It is likely to cooperate at fun events or parties though there are not so many occasions to form the united front.
In the preparation stage of this attack castle war, besides the number of people of cooperators on the day the seige, the command of the group and individual's war skill were considered important. The unification of existing war powers accustomed was necessary by all means, and I proposed and persuaded to achieve these this time by a special project. Fortunately, each power understood and agreed with me, and a large-scale of this united front was able to be put.
Nukata: How long had this state continued that COMETS was occupying all castles?
Seiki: I think for about two months.
Nukata: How do you express being the leading part of such a large-scale Seige?
Seiki: As a prior adjustment and the preparation for the strategy and the tactics were rewarded, relief is my real feeling.
In order to lead a large-scale war to victory, commands by an able leader and cooperation of participants seem critically important.
This time, it was my pleasure that such leaders and participants understood my intention. Also I renewed my respect to those leaders' commanding ability.
Moreover, I think the leading part of this seige was all individuals to the last.
Server residents' dissatisfaction to all castle tax rate 50%, irritation to non-revitalization of wars, my lv50 achievement and large-scale consecutive holidays when people could spend more tiem on game came in succession by chance. (Nukata's note: At first Prince Seiki asked cooperation of other pledges as a celebration of hisLv50 achiement)
However, I feel fully satisfied by heart with the point that people's dissatisfaction and irritation were able to be removed and with the point that we unified our emotions to vicotry, although by using the pretext of my own accomplishment of a goal commemoration.
It was recognized again that Lineage consisted as each one of the player influencing each other.
Nukata: I your opinion, what aspect of Lineage should be improved?
Seiki: I want the developers to take the concrete measure of the security improvement of user account/password on the specification side of the program improvement etc.
Moreover, I want NC to plan a happy event. I like one that we can enjoy moods and atmopsphere more than events only of a lot of monster spawnings as a private individual. For example, the Christmas event. (Nukta's note: I have no idea what kind of event ws held in Japan at the Chirstmas time)
Nukata: Is there anything you wish to tell to the other players?
Seiki: I often feel that Lineage epitomizes a real society. Hereafter, I think that to apply the experience in Lineage to real life well is the meaning of roll-playing spending time and money, and I wish to enjoy Lineage frm now on too with many people.
Nukata: Thank you for answering my questions.
A glorious week for the Ken Rauhel Server, which seems to be knocking out 50+ players like halloween event candies!
Special congratulations today go to PiscesGirl for reaching that magical mark of 52, taking a place in our LeaderBoard.
|
This North Londoner, in-game wife to Marak2001 another of Ken Rauhel's higest regarded players, managed to reach level 52 at 4:20 AM GMT whilst smashing her way through the monsters of the Forgotten Island. Quite what both of us were doing up at this ridiculous time is another question!
PiscesGirl claims to have had heaps of help from her good friends of the blood pledge Bloodrage. "TIHung had a mage to help me level on FI, She also hunts with me a lot in the Tower of Insolence." she tells us. PiscesGirl and TIHung could often be found battling the undead on the 34th floor. |
|
She is very pleased to be able to use the Dark Elf polymorph, despide the slight delay recently added to the casting animations. "The delay isn't very long so it's not so bad" she tells us.
When asked about her favourite aspect of the game, I was hardly supprised to hear her response: "The friends and people I know and love, and my pledgemates too". |
With the final release of Blizzards World of Warcraft looming, I had a chance to participate in the Open Beta program. One thing I noticed the game lacked, despite its modern graphics and wonderful features, was the wonderful bond players in the Lineage Community feel with eachother, from the simple chit-chat and greetings to the massive disputes.
"The worst thing about the game for me is some of the idiots from other pledges that irritate me with the way they talk, and the bad lag and disconnections we get sometimes" She continued. Well PiscesGirl, I hear you there!
I just had to ask the question: "Are you going to nominate Marak2001 for the Player of The Year award?", to which she immediatly replied "Of course!"
PiscesGirl would like to wish everyone the best of luck and leaves the following message: "When it comes to levelling... No pain, No gain!"
... and no ordinary player either~ Diggit, hails from America, and has been playing Lineage for 2 weeks now - here, ladies and gentlemen, is a real new player~ having a handful of other chars in Dep and LoA (including elf lvl10, mage lvl12, darkelf lvl12, knight lvl15) I met Diggit in Hidden Valley, Ken.
A former Ever Quest player, a friend had encouraged him to have a go at Lineage, and past the 7 day trial, he decided to stay (i was surprised it's only 7days now- i had a month to try out - however for Diggit a day was enough for him to be hooked! i shudder to think what leveling at higher levels for him would be like !!) His friend being on LoA, Diggit said that though Ken does not have as many players online, he prefers it to the crowded LoA, and as a disgruntled hormonal pair of youths passed our way, asked for a dual (urm.. ?) then proceeded to respond using colourful language, Diggit also added that whatever game you play, what ever server, you get the same mix of people...! c'est la vie mon ami!
Did the experience at EQ help with starting out? 'Not Really, they kept adding new stuff faster than i could get used to it, so i got away from it. I like it better here' Glad you do ^~* ! He found that downloading the booklet had helped a little with the initial structure of the game; 'Other players sometimes want to help but you miss a lot of the game if you get too much help'.
As we all did at some point of our early days, Diggit aspires to get to a higher level in the future, though there seems to be no real hurry to do so, adding, '...it's get boring here'... hehe, i don't think we've forgotten that feeling!... (thinks about hours spent in OWL,FV,toi...)
Though Diggit is a knight, he would like to continue to play on either Mage or Dark Elf as in his opinion they are a little 'harder to advance';
And finally !!! The question all high level old players wonder atleast once in their later gaming life ~ "What is it like to be New [again] ?" ...
^~*
Once high level players were a rare sight, now it is the lower and newer level players. Many many thanks to Diggit, and equally as many good lucks!! Hope to see you around, and maybe joining & enjoying the ranks of the higher levels!

Today I have the pleasure of talking directly with Scout, the Publish Coordinator for Lineage 1 in the US about her special GM appearance on the Test Server this weekend.
Read on to see what GMScout had to say...
|
Rooella |
What made you decide to throw this event? |
|
Scout |
Well, first the players requested a pre-wipe event. We thought this was reasonable since the testers had expended a great deal of effort and time testing Episode 3, especially Diad. Plus, it’s fun for us as well. Events normally have to be planned, coded, tested, etc. The chance to do this type of event is rare, so we jump at it! |
|
Rooella |
Would you say this test was successful? |
|
Scout |
I believe so. It’s very difficult to test all ramifications of major changes. But there were quite a number of issues reported by players that we were able to get resolved before going live. Obviously, that’s a good thing. In addition, we were able to modify the Diad Fortress according to actual player feedback, not just our gut feeling. That in itself was invaluable. |
|
Rooella |
Which monster do you most like to spawn? |
|
Scout |
My personal favorite is the Demon. He’s tough, has a great look, and some excellent special attacks. |
|
Rooella |
Did you have fun? |
|
Scout |
Oh definitely! It’s amazing to watch a mass of people wailing on a monster determined to take it down. What’s even better is that death no longer matters, so players are more carefree and willing to just jump in there over and over again. And players are crazy! The worse mops the better! I think they’re just as amused as I am when Valakas takes down 10 players in one breath of fire. |
|
Rooella |
Well we certainly appreciate the time you put in for us this weekend. Thanks for taking the time out of your schedule to talk to us today! |

Farewell Nomad! Today we say farewall to our Community Co-ordinator, Nomad. We managed to track her down before she escaped to talk to her about life working at the heart of Lineage... Read on to see what she had to say. |
Roo: How's the last day goin' ?
Nomad: Pretty good, almost done ^_^
Roo: You know you're not allowed to leave til you've done your exit interview
Nomad: Heh, true - hope you have the questions ready
Roo: Well - i was kinda gonna "wing" it
Roo: Ready?
Nomad: sure
* Roo quickly puts on a suit and grabs a mic
Roo: Well Nomad, you've been with us since January. In that time we've seen oodles of changes both in, and around the game. You've pretty much been the voice of the "(wo)man behind the curtain" for most of that time... You've seen scout leave the team, you've giggled all the way through Fracas' stint behind the wheel and you've watched the capt' himself in action!
Roo: That's enough to drive anyone 'round the bend... but the community only knows you as the "chick in the forums" ... since that's where they see you the most. It seems only right to ask you how you found dealing with the Lineage 1 community?
Nomad: The Lineage community is one of the most dedicated, focused - one might even say rabid - groups I've ever worked with. It's been a pleasure to deal with people who are so invested in their game and have spent so much time, effort, and thought on it.
Roo: Rabid? You can say that again!
Nomad: hehehe
Roo: What's been the most difficult part of your job?
Nomad: This job is a balancing act - the desires of the community vs the needs of the company, my wish to make everyone happy vs my firm resolve not to lie to anyone... keeping that balance is the tricky part, in any situation
Roo: Every job has it's tough moments, can you give us an example of something you found really hard to deal with?
Nomad: Bots!
What about them?
Nomad: My god, do I hate bots
Nomad: You would not believe how much time and effort we spend struggling with this problem, and it's one that never goes away - and even our victories don't make a visible enough impact for the community to be really happy. It's the worst lose-lose situation I've ever seen - and it's not specific to Lineage.
Roo: Yeah, we hear ya... HATE 'em we do!
Roo: That's enough pessimism for me tho...
Roo: What about your best bits? What's been your favourite thing about Lineage?
Nomad: It is a great team to be on - CaptSturm, Arctic Sum, Fracas, Impact, Scout, Mistryl - they are all really great people. We have a really good time keeping you folks occupied, and it's a priviledge to be a part of the group
Roo: We can only imagine the antics you lot get up to back there... any fond memories you're going to take with you?
Nomad: Oh, there are several - the Kill Glance ring that made people drop dead in the middle of town, showing up for the MayDay event to be mobbed by dozens of people with tons of questions, watching Fracas concoct wild schemes for the Royal quest... I've had a good ride.
Roo: yeah, but unfortunately for us all, it's almost time for you to "get off"... Where are you going?
Nomad: In a distant land lies a kingdom without a king, the sandstone city where I was born, and the dusty roads my boots will soon walk again...
Roo: Speaking of boots... before i let you go, there's something i HAVE to ask you
Nomad: Oh?
Roo: On behalf of the L1 community... what *is* with those boots?
Nomad: oh, I stole them off the internet... figured Nomad + Texas = dusty cowboy boots
Roo: oh well that was a terribly dissapointing answer
Nomad: heh, sorry
Nomad: I don't actually wear cowboy boots
Roo: we'll have to check on that....
Roo: Well... the experience is almost over, there's just one thing we still have to do...
Nomad: What's that?
Roo: Say "Thank You"
Roo: It's been a real pleasure working with you these past 12 months, and personally, i'm gonna miss ya big time!
Nomad: I'll miss you too, Roo
Roo: I hope you'll still drop in on us from time-to-time?
Nomad: oh, I'll probably check up on you
Roo: probably?
Roo: I'm sure you'll leave us in capable hands... or at the very least, those boots.
Nomad: coh, Capt's got bigger boots than I do - he'll take care of y'all just fine
Roo: Well Nomad, thank you very much for your time. I'm sure we'll see you again "out there"... somewhere...
I am powerful... I am level 53.
I am immortal... I am the greatest of my kind.
I can do anything... I can gain 4-5% a day.
I am cursed... I am a prince.
I am the Darkness… I am FieldsOfLove.
As you may or may not know, the first level 50 prince on Depardieu, FieldsOflove has reached level 53, making him the highest level prince on the Depardieu server. He says that 53 is really just a pit stop on his road to level 55 or perhaps even level 60. He does however enjoy his newfound strength on his con prince.
Fields levels largely in Ivory Tower, with occasional jaunts to Fire Valley or Forgotten Island. When asked why he chose to level a prince over a knight, he said that he enjoyed the idea of being a prince. He simply liked the class best, although he did admit to being intrigued by the power of a high level dark elf.
Many people might agree that the prince is one of the hardest classes to level. Fields says that the lack of items, decent magic, and slow walking factor of the prince make it undesirable for many people. Even though he enjoys the challenge of leveling his prince he does wish that NC would give them sort of walk acceleration speed, like the Dark Elf has, because he’s tired of having to morph into Baphomet just to keep up with his friends.
When asked about other princes on the server he told us, “Kirkanos (a level 52 prince) is one of my best and oldest friends. He helped me out a great deal when I came back.” He also had these words about Magnetik, the Player of the Year candidate for Depardieu, “He’s a great guy ^^ I like to try and keep him motivated when leveling. For him being a char prince he is nuts, but he has it harder then me.”
Hopefully we can all learn from people like FieldsOfLove, learn to chase our dreams no matter how far away they may seem. Personally I feel I've learned a lot from FieldsOfLove. I’ve learned that goodbyes will always hurt, pictures never replace having been there, memories good or bad will always bring tears, and words can never replace feelings.
Last night at around 1:30 AM, dreams found themselves accomplished. It seemed for a brief moment smiles were just a bit brighter in the Classics Bloodpledge. Because at 1:30AM on an otherwise normal Friday morning, BombSquad reached level 52, cementing himself in the neighborhood of Death Knights.
Most people wouldn’t think much of another death knight so let me tell you a little bit about The Babo Squad as the Classics like to call him. At first glance he seems like your normal level 52 constitution elf. Then you realize he has 270MP… and 570 HP! He also added to con both levels leaving him with an amazing 20 constitution!
“It could be a bit higher, but I’m lazy,” he mentioned casually. He mentions that a couple times he had all his items stolen by what he thought were close friends.
“It really only took me about 40 days of leveling to go from 51 to 52! Toward the end I was gaining 5% a day. I played till 4AM Thursday morning to get to 95% but then as soon as I logged on I disconnected and died! So I actually had to level from 92.5% to 100% in one day because I really wanted to do it that day!”
He would really like to thank pretty much everyone in Lineage, exclaiming that, “Everyone loves BombSquad!” But he’d like to personally thank the members of his bloodpledge: Tainted, Banishing, Reciprocity, The Ever-special Taerom! Then of course there are the Non-pledgies: Yonate, ParticleBeam, Sarvia, Asias, SassyGirl, and Zelfy, as well as many others!
“Lot’s of people helped me get to where I am and I feel bad enough trying not to leave everyone out. You all helped me so much and you know who you are! Thanks so much!”
We've left NCsoft alone for a few months and haven't really bothered them much since E3... so we thought we'd interrupt their sleep. Things turned out even better than we had thought... there, locked in a cupboard, at the back of the darkest room in the basement, was a new face... one we hadn't seen before. Naturally, we just had to talk to her!
Ok... so she wasn't really locked in a cupboard, but she is new to our Community, and she does know alot about Lineage... please welcome to LineageOne for the first time, Ashiva - Lead QA Tester for Lineage I in the US!
Read on for the full article...
Rooella |
Hello Ashiva! It's great to finally catch up with you. I hope you're settling in nicely? |
Ashiva |
I am -- although "settled" isn't quite the word. There is always a lot going on here! |
Rooella |
So tell me... how is it you came to join us all here in Lineage-Land... Where did you come from? |
Ashiva |
I transferred onto Lineage, having previously worked on other projects as part of the NCsoft Quality Assurance team. In all, I've been doing software QA for a few years now, both in and out of the game industry. |
Rooella |
So ya'll playing musical chairs in the office huh? What have you been doing the past few months whilst you've been finding your feet? Anything exciting? Oooh go on... you can tell us ^^ |
Ashiva |
Orientation and organization. I've been learning the details of the Lineage testing and publish cycle, as well as establishing some processes of my own. This includes things like customizing and updating our bug tracking database, and getting on board with the support tools that allow me to receive all those bug reports submitted by players. And, of course, non-stop research and testing! |
Rooella |
Sounds like you've been a busy bee! So who are you working with? Presumably NCsoft doesn't have ya'll locked in dark rooms on your lonesome? Mind you... if Scout really *is* a vampire... |
Ashiva |
No, not lonesome at all.. actually there are a lot of us locked in this dark room .. OK so naturally I work with the NCsoft QA team. I'm also constantly pestering people in Publish, OCR and Customer Service, including Scout, Kyzah, Mistryl and GMSylvia. |
Rooella |
How are you finding things so far? Do you hate us all yet? |
Ashiva |
Things are busy, which I thoroughly enjoy. And I don't hate any of you! You guys find some great bugs -- how can I not love that? |
Rooella |
Bugs? We have those? *ducks* What are you enjoying the most? |
Ashiva |
Working with the fantastic Lineage team at NCsoft. |
Rooella |
What do you dread turning up at the office for? |
Ashiva |
...ehh.. they let us leave the dark room? ;-) |
Rooella |
Yeah... Roo worries 'bout that too... Do you play much in your off-time? |
Ashiva |
Yep! |
Rooella |
I'd ask you what server and about your character - but i sooo know you won't be telling us that *pouts*... So i'll ask this: Dark Elves or Knights? |
Ashiva |
I won't be commenting on that either! :-) |
Rooella |
Bah! Spoil-sport :( Antharas or Valakas? |
Ashiva |
GMSylvia!! :-) |
Rooella |
Hmm... are you calling her a Dragon? O.o Marmite, Love it or Hate it? (marmite is like a beef flavoured Jam - ask Kyzah... she likes to eat wierd and evil things apparently hehe) |
Ashiva |
Marmite is not available to us in the dark room.... and Kyzah will not speak of it. |
Rooella |
LOL... Do they feed you at all? O.o Speaking of dragons and cool stuff... aside from the impending arrival of the uber-so-uber Episode 4 content, what's going to be keeping you busy over the coming months? |
Ashiva |
We just finished publishing a sizeable build out to Test Server, and that one is still keeping me busy with a few loose ends. Plus there's always documentation to be written, some in preparation for testing Episode 4. I expect Episode 4 content will be on my desk sooner rather than later! Not to mention testing on any cool stuff Scout might cook up in the meantime. |
Rooella |
So we still have lots to look forward to before the next major update? |
Ashiva |
There's always something to look forward to -- Lineage changes at an amazing pace! |
Rooella |
Don't we know it! Hey... you better get back to work or Mistryl will get cranky with me.... It took me weeks to get the custard off my shirt last time she got mad! Thank you so much for taking some time out to come and talk with us today. I'm sure we'll be talking again soon! |
Ashiva |
Any time! And thank you for the chance to chat! :-) |
Rooella |
I'll be back!!! (Arnold Swartzenegger-style voice) |
There should be another definition for "dedication" in the dictionary. On May 22, 2006, Prince Magnetik of Depardieu server achieved his dream of being level 55. With sheer determination, he barrelled his way past the challenges of being a charisma royal, alongside countless PvP battles. Magnetik can finally take a breather and sit down and tell us a little about himself and his accomplishments.
Read on for the full article...
Fields: How long have you been playing Lineage for?
Mag: I started this game since Mac beta.
Fields: So you've been a royal your whole Lineage career?
Mag: 1st char was a con knight, lvl'd it to 34, then started royal.
Fields: How long exactly did it take you to go from 49-55?
Mag: Year and a half to 2 years. Actually 52 was quick haha. I only ended 1 time at 52.
Fields: Did you ever take a break from Lineage?
Mag: Hmm spurts, 4 months max.
Fields: How do you feel about being in a war pledge for so long?
Mag: It's what lured me to the game, fighting and such, pvp.
Fields: Why fight as a royal though?
Mag: It's different and tactical.
Fields: Tell me what you love about your royal.
Mag: It's cool being unique.
Fields: Tell me what you think about your pledge.
Mag: It's been great, It's like being a legend amongsts legends :). People I've known for a long time, friend and foe. Even cool neutrals.
Fields: What is your goal in Lineage?
Mag: I've no more goals for the moment, reaching 55 was major for me.
Fields: Whats the thing you want changed the most?
Mag: Well for royals, I think it would make sense for the aura spells to be all pledge. For me being in the game so long without braves, the fact NC put them in, in the temple and such with no drop rate makes braves a continued dream lol. No soft ac would be nice :).
Fields: Any shout outs?
*Nice misschat there Mag :)*
Fields: Anything else you wanna say?
Mag: Well thx to you man for being an inspiration and a good friend all along the way :). Been a long time yo :).
Mag: Seriously, Thx to all in PaldoReturns! For keepin this game fun and crazy lol.
Dedication is putting the time and will power to accomplish all of your goals no matter the difficulty. If you set your mind to it, you can do anything you want. Thanks for teaching us that lesson Mag and enjoy your new morphs. GoGoGo for 60, 65, 70! ^^
It's been a few weeks now since I got to speak to Kyzah back at NC
Austin... I thought it was about time I went and bothered someone
else.
Anyone who knows me from the game, or from my blog, knows that one of my favourite things about Lineage is the people in the game itself... both players and staff. Ahhh... you say... that's right... I'm talking about our in-game monitors. I have always felt a lot of sympathy for the NC crew working inside the game - from where I stand it seems like a very demanding role - and that's just from watching the "Monitor wis me now!!!!" lines on global chat! You can imagine my delight when Kyzah mentioned that GMSylvia wanted to speak with me... Well okay...I had NO idea who this GMSylvia person was, and embarrasingly had to ask Kyzah!!
|
Rooella |
Hi there GMSylvia! How are you? Hmmm... Do I call you Sylvia or GMSylvia? |
|
GMSylvia |
Sylvia is fine unless you want to get formal then it's GMSylvia. :) |
|
Rooella |
Hmm... well Roo is kinda scared of you... so we'll stick to GMSylvia :D So... for our readers who i'm pretty sure, just like me, have no idea who you are... can you tell us abit about yourself and what you do? |

GMSylvia |
I am a Lead GM with NCsoft Customer Support. I am in charge of all Lineage I GMs and Monitors on the North American servers. I work with the whole of the Lineage I Support Team, including our Technical Support Team and our Billing Team to get resolutions to different support issues. I am also liaison to our Customer Service Manger GMRock as well as the Lineage I OCR Team, Quality Assurance Team and local Development Team. It is rare you will see me in game however I am there! |
|
Rooella |
Ooooh... How does this differ from GMRock's role? |
|
GMSylvia |
GMRock oversees our entire customer support operation in North America and has a role in all North American NCsoft titles. I focus all my time and attention on Lineage! |
|
Rooella |
Everyone knows that Roo likes to talk with the Monitoring team... can you tell us all more about them? It seems like we get a new one everyday... Where do they come from... and more importantly where do they go?? |
|
GMSylvia |
We've had a few people change positions in a very short time. This is because they've gone to different positions within the company. NCsoft has been growing at a great pace and this has given its employees a lot of opportunities to grow within the company and get experience on other teams. When this happens we find candidates with strong customer service skills (and good personalities!) that are really enthusiastic about the game. They then go through a very long and involved training process in which they are tested and critiqued on all points of customer service as well as Lineage game knowledge. |
|
Rooella |
I'm always careful not to bug them... they always seem so busy and hassled. Why are they all so umm.. generic and robot like? I've always been given the impression that NC Interactive likes to be *very* careful when having real-time conversations with its customers.... |
|
GMSylvia |
I think the key word here is "professional" more than "careful". At NCsoft, professionalism is very important because we are aware that our customers are paying for a service and therefore deserve professional interactions with our staff. We strive for professional interaction with players without seeming cold. Chat and email are great, but in using them you don't hear the tone of voice or don't get the full context, which makes it very easy to be misunderstood. We go out of our way to make sure that the intent of our communication is clear, to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings. |
|
Rooella |
Okay.... I'm drifting a little from the point here :) For the kids at home... What is a Monitor & what do they do? |
|
GMSylvia |
A Monitor's main function is to actually monitor the in-game environment and to monitor the server processes for proper functioning as opposed to just answering whispers from players. The most efficient way to report any issue as always is to contact customer support via email or the website. |
|
Rooella |
Some people feel that more in-game involvement from NC staff might be a good thing. What are your views on this? It must be very hard to maintain professionalism sometimes. |
|
GMSylvia |
We feel that the in-game environment should be primarily driven by the players with as little interference from our staff as possible while still allowing for contact with our Monitoring Team as needed as well as occasional GM appearances. |
|
Rooella |
What happens when a member of the Monitoring team discovers a problem with one of the servers or processes? Presumably there are some strict protocols on reporting these issues to the players inside the game? |
|
GMSylvia |
Any potential service issues noticed by our Monitoring Team are immediately reported to the Support and Network Teams for further investigation and resolution; our Community Team is also made aware of these issues so that they can share the necessary information with our customers through the website and/or forums. In-game announcements are not generally made unless the issue demands a server reset or server downtime. |
|
Rooella |
How do game monitors assist the support team in cases such as catching 3rd-party program users - such as bots etc? |
|
GMSylvia |
So as not to endanger our efforts to remove these cheaters from our service by making them aware of our processes, we cannot share specific information on how this is accomplished. |
|
Rooella |
Booo! hehe I do understand tho... No-body likes a cheater :) What is the best way for us to assist them with this task? |
|
GMSylvia |
The best way to assist us in this is to follow the reporting method outlined in the official forums with Kyzah's "Who Should I Contact?" thread; contact Support through e-mail or the website and be sure to include server, character name(s) involved, approximate time/date of the incident, in-game Monitor(s) contacted (if applicable) and time/date of contact, and a description of the incident/behavior you feel to be in violation of our rules. We also appreciate your patience during our investigation after receiving your reports; we often need to "build a case" in situations such as these and it typically takes time for us to do so. |
|
Rooella |
That's great... for the kids at home, we've put a copy of Kyzah's guidelines for speaking to the right person here... aren't we nice? Of course you can view NC's one here too! Thank you very much for agreeing to talk with us today! I look forward to finding you one day somewhere in Aden :) I do have one more question for you tho... Who would you put your money on in a fight? Valakas or Antharas? |
|
GMSylvia |
CaptSturm!! :) |
|
Rooella |
Hmm... Did you even hear the question? o.o Hello? Oh dear... it seems I've scared her away! Thanks again Sylvia.... errr I mean GMSylvia... It's been a pleasure talking with you! |

*door closing in the distance* |

In all honesty, it has to be said that I was a little nervous about interviewing one of Ken's highest level, best known & original players. I was relieved however, to find i was not alone.
Chance whispered me with a triumphant 'leveled' and a few moments later in his town Hiene (of which he was announced mayor on the same day) Appleseede and myself had the chance (pun ^~") of taking his first ever solo interview, (the other being with Marak2001 & TIhung). With Chance's linweb open to all, you will see displayed there an impressive level 63, 13hp / 4mp level up and adding to dex to give 27... giving him stats of 16str, 20dex, 18con base in total.
Chance has been playing since the Ken Server opened, and it was during this time he met his prince Marak2001. This is his first character, remade from a lvl45 dex elf to an 18 con, giving him extra sense of insurance with the high HP when "getting jumped" !
And how does it feel to get to level 63 ^^* ?...
Chance: It feel great, especially 13hp ^^
Appleseede & Elvorith: Did you ever think you would get this far ?
Chance: No actually i never thought of leveling beyond 60, but since i started hunting FI again at 59, I was making anywhere from 0.95~1% per hour so I was happy and continued with my goal. I get roughly 3~4% a day, thats about 4.5~5hours taking breaks in between.
Appleseede & Elvorith: that's good! And you still have motivation to play after all this time? What's the main thing this that keeps you playing?
Chance: Yes hehe FI is fun at the moment ^^ one hour goes by so fast there. My pledge mates; they always keep me smiling, and joke...
Appleseede & Elvorith: What's your most treasured item?
Chance: My most treasured item is probably my Sayha's bow since it took a lot of hard work and ppl skills. I couldn't have crafted it without my pledge members
Appleseede & Elvorith: What + is it?
Chance: +7 Only hehe
Appleseede & Elvorith: What about your best drop?
Chance: My best drop, gimme one sec lol ... ok here it is, it think my best drop was RoZ from Zenith Queen. I wear this ring 24/7. it doesn't cost the most compared to some other drops i got, but in terms of use i find i can't live without RoZ since my life revolves around poison mops ^^
Appleseede & Elvorith: What's your favorite mop?...

Chance: ... I love it when it says 'Chance gave you ancient scroll!' lol it totally brightens my day when i see that ^^
Appleseede & Elvorith: Do you think you'll play lineage till it explodes?
Chance: I would if some friends stick with me to the end ^^ otherwise it's meaningless to play when all your friends quit. i wouldn't be happy even if they gave me all stuff
Appleseede: Can i have your stuff if they do ? :I
Chance: lol
So who is the real Chance ^^? Only 23 years old, he's a smart and kind guy from Canada, working part-time as a technician in pharmacy at a hospital (admirable ^^) ~ He has tried other RPG including Ragnarok, for three months, however left it as there were too many bot users. His journal(http://www.upsaid.com/chance) is full of advice, comments and discussions, where you can find much to inspire you and a lot to envy ^~* ! I was surprised when he said there was no special lady in his life...
![]()
hehe *^^*, yes~ we can get expensive ^~*!
Eventually, he will enter his work Full time, in which case Lineage will be played less frequently, making up for loss of weekday play on the weekends ^~*. It really was a pleasure to interview Chance, and we wish you all the best in real-life and in-Game ! ~ See you at 65 ^~*!

~ Appleseede & Elvorith
(PS. I have to add this: He's such a great guy~ proof that your head & ego doesn't have to get big with level to be deemed "uber" ^~"!)
Special congratulations to Ken Rauhel's CainnaTwo, who on November 5th 2004 hit level 55.
During a brief chat with myself she admitted to hating the level 55 archer polymorph; claiming that the cloak is just too unfasionable for her. What a classy chick she really is!
|
CainnaTwo added to dex on this level up making her base dexterity an uber 20, meaning with all her gear and buffs she packs a whopping 27. I sure wouldn't wanna be on the receiving end of her arrows!
On previous level-ups she has added to both dexterity and wisdom, giving her a slight advantage on mana regeneration - with her Ancient Leather Armor, a clear mind and mana potion she regenerates at a sweet 24 mana points per tick! |
|
She's very pleased with the extra Magic Resistance too - giving her 77% MR with only her spells! I bet she won't be turning green anytime soon!
CainnaTwo's message to ya'll: "Oh shyt, u gonna quote me? I don't say anything interesting!" Umm... ok babe! Whatever you say ;-) CainnaTwo says: "Special thanks to EE, Tarsmi, EBO and all of my friends" |
Today I have the pleasure of talking with Ken Rauhel's Riverine... Our own star blogger here at LineageOne... Location: Tower Of Insolence, Floor 12.
Riverine has just recently reached Level 52 after re-making her level 49 WIS/INT Mage over a year ago.
|
Rooella |
Welcome Riverine... How does it feel? |
|
Riverine |
Good! I love my Dires! |
|
Rooella |
What are your stats now? Did you break the 470 hp mark you were heading for? |
|
Riverine |
My ac now without eskin, with bless armor is -56... and 472 hp so... |
|
Rooella |
hehe :) |
|
Riverine |
but I can't turn things too well O.o |
|
Rooella |
hehe |
|
Riverine |
but ask me if I care! |
|
Rooella |
What's your next goal? |
|
Riverine |
18 dex base and 500 hp! |
|
Rooella |
I'm sure it wont take you too long! Many still know you as noodlebrain... This was your first mage? |
|
Riverine |
Yes... I made riverine about a year and a half ago after getting 1/2 way through level 49 with a wis/int mage... CON/DEX works better for me! |
|
Rooella |
I'd agree! What do you love most about Lineage? |
|
Riverine |
Well... I met Matt here ^^ |
|
Rooella |
Yes, of course! Before you became Mrs Riverine huh? :) |
|
Riverine |
Yes :) Still, I like the friends I have here, and I like to kill mops ^^ It's a good break from real life! |
|
Rooella |
What's the worst thing about Lineage? |
|
Riverine |
Some of the totally obsessed wierd people scare me! |
|
Rooella |
If NC would change one thing about the game for you... except for the drop system... what would you have changed? |
|
Riverine |
Real AC for mages! |
|
Rooella |
Just Mages? *cough* |
|
Riverine |
Oh ehhm... Royals and elves too! v.v.v |
|
Rooella |
hehehe What do you have to say to all the mages out there aspiring to hit 52+ ? |
|
Riverine |
If you want to do it, then stick to it! If you get bored LOG! If you get bored LOG! If you get bored LOG! |
|
Rooella |
hehehe |
|
Riverine |
Stop standing around in town hitting a dwarf! |
|
Rooella |
What do you say to all the people who have left Lineage recently? |
|
Riverine |
I hope that some of them come back! I can see where the graphics are old, but it runs well on dialup and older machines... unlike most games... The bad graphics are also part of the charm... I like it! |
|
Rooella |
Yeah... me too... I'm not a fan of those fancy 3D games... It's all too complicated for me! Okay... onto your blog! |
|
Riverine |
*laughs* Am I oppinionated? |
|
Rooella |
lol In the past few days over 500 different people from all over the world (even as far as Japan and Korea!) have read your most recent entries... It would seem it's quite a popular haunt for Lineage fans all over... How long have you been writing it for? |
|
Riverine |
Wow... I started it last Novemeber I think... around then... November/October on the old OSX site hosted by Tueur... back when it was known as "Noodles Babos". I used to post about all the people who annoyed me ^^ |
|
Rooella |
Do you have anything to say to your blog readers? |
|
Riverine |
Good question... I hope it's fun to read... maybe it makes them think. I never care if people agree or not with me... I think that annoys some people :S (I'm like that in real life btw ^^) |
|
Rooella |
Do you have anything to say to NC Interactive? |
|
Riverine |
Yeah... Listen to the players on your non-Korean servers! We don't play the same game as your main customer base... and if you care about us, please try to work for us. |
|
Rooella |
That aside, do you think they're doing a good job of keeping us all happy? |
|
Riverine |
I think some of the innovations are great and worth playing or working towards... Like dires for a mage :D |
|
Rooella |
...and your final message to everybody? |
|
Riverine |
Stop pining in towns you babos!!! O.o I'm so dumb... but seriously I hate that! I've had friends quit the game because of that! |
|
Rooella |
Well thanks for the chat... Lets go kill some stuff! |
|
Riverine |
Where *are* the mops? |
You can run... but you can't hide... not even on The Lands Of Aden!
That's right!!! This week i've been prowling the Lands Of Aden server looking for someone to talk to... who should i bump into... None other than LuVoNe.
Special congratulations to LuVoNe - for reaching level 51 at midnight last night!
LuVoNe moved to LoA from ken, leaving his Knight JJANGA, when the Lands Of Aden server was first opened - back in the days when Ken's Marak2001 was still a level 49'er. His first character was an Elf but he soon traded in his bow for a SOM and Spell Books when he made his Wizzard. Having been brought back into the game by his friend xevvex just two months ago, he has managed to reach this amazing climb from level 49 to 51 in just under two months!
His favourite hunting grounds include Oren Wastelands and the Tower of Insolence Floor 51. It would seem our mage-friend here likes elmores!
He was very keen to demonstrate some neat spells available only on the Lands of Aden server:

This is a picture of him casting the Lands of Aden version of "Absolute Barrier". It gives him -8 ac for a limited period.
Playing along side is in-game wive, Mortality - a female elf, he is very happy with his Lineage Server - The Lands of Aden.
When asked "Do you have any messages for people?", he simply replied: "Please say 'luv ya' to Mortality, and 'gl' to everyone".
Thank you very much for your time LuVoNe... It was a pleasure to meet you. We all wish you the best of luck for the future.
We encourage members to sumbit poll suggestions. You can do that here. We will take the best ones and make them available here... and if they're really good, we'll add them to the homepage too!
