Lineage Mac client (I'm new)

Hi all,

My name's Pietro (I'm writing this from Italy) and over the last few months, I have gathered some infos about MMORPG titles for Mac (I'm trying to write a wide report for an Italian magazine, an article that will try to describe the phenomenon of the massive multiplayer games from a Mac user point of view) and this week it's Lineage - The Blood Pledge's turn.

I can't post messages to te official BBS right now (I receive an error there) but I've soon discovered your great fansite so I've thought that maybe you can help me with the firts steps on Lineage ...

Look at this:

http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/5228/linscreensnapz0026iw.jpg

It's a screenshot of Lineage running in windowed mode on my trusty G5 ... and , well, I'm a bit disappointed with the graphics.

I mean, I know that this game is getting old (and yes, I know that Lineage is really a benchmark title in the fantasy online RPG genre together with Ultima Online and Asheron's Call). ) but from the screenshots and the movies that I've seen so far I didn't expect it to be this jerky ... I've found it a bit difficult to read the in game text!

Since the game crashes every time I try to play as an elf (I'm waiting for an answer frome NCSoft) I was wondering if there's something wrong with my installation ...

PS
Be patient with my pidgin English ...

Hi!

Hi!

Firstly - "Lineage: The Blood Pledge" was the name of the first series - it is now called "Lineage: Dark Conquest" :)

If you're playing on a mac - you will probably want it in Full Screen mode (if it doesn't default to it right away) - hold down APPLE+L to toggle between the screen modes.

Windowed-mode is actually a mac-only feature of Lineage. You'll want to avoid playing in window-mode because exposee conflicts with the shortcut keys now, but it's still VERY useful for those moments when you want to check something on the web and keep an eye on your game character at the same time!

Usually it looks like this on the mac:

The game-play *can* be a little jerky at times - it really is dependant on the internet "weather" conditions.

It is unusual for the game to crash as you suggest - support will most likely ask you to drag Lineage to the Trash and re-install.

Sure there might be newer, prettier *sic* 3D *sic* games out there, but Lineage is the one we love... More so, it's the people, both game-staff and players, that keep the title as loved by us all as it is... Oh, and of course, the event pies! :)

Hi Rooella and thanks for

Hi Rooella and thanks for your nice reply.

You're right, in full-screen the game graphics is more readable but when you stretch a 640X480 image on a 1280x1024 flat panel the jerkiness becomes more evident.

The windowed mode comes handy when I have to check the web in the same time but the size is too small for my eyes so it's better to switch with cmd+Enter ...

Oh ... you're right! I haven't noticed the change in the title ...

I'm a casual gamer, I don't have the time to play this kind of games the way they have to be played but I'm having a taste of all the MMORPG titles available for Mac and I have to say that the perfect MMORPG doesn't exist yet :)

I play WoW and Minions of Mirth most often but my brief experience with some oldest or "minor" production like Everquest, Dofus or Planeshift has been really interesting ... every title has his own strength and weakness.

I like Lineage's rich documentation and the polite community. Stay tuned ... I may ask you some other questions soon :)

Ciao!
