OK, you need 50 of them for a belt and 100 for a pet. Only ramia drop them, but apparently all sorts of ramia do.
Someone was on global before trying to get a +6bkat for two scales...first he had tried for a +7. He then said in two hours of hunting he got two scales.
I suspect that the price for a scale should be about 10-15K at least on Ken. At that price a belt conversion will require 500K - 750K and a pet about a million to 1.5 million. A dragon heart I'd peg at the upper end of that but not more: remember it can't be used for a belt, only for a pet.
Why shouldn't they be more? For the same reason Cimera skins were never more: when you need so many of X, no one is going to pay you an inordinate amount for one of them. When you need 500 lion skins, do you think that someone will pay you 50K for one? Instead they are typically about 4-5K each, which means that for a cloak you would have to spend about $2,000,000 to $2,250,000 if you bought all the skins...and I suspect few people do. I think most people hunted the skins they needed and traded around with the ones they weren't using.
Anyways, as a low int mage, those are my thoughts. Probably about a million or so for a heart, and about 10-15K per scale, at least till there is a drop event. And I guess there is a chance that NC could adjust the scale drop rate, as they have on TOI scroll drops and on skins. I saw TOI 20 scrolls today being sold for $50K...nothing is constant. ^^

Therefore, you are totally correct in the assumption that items that are needed in larger amounts should have a lesser price tag.

First of all, the price is set by supply AND demand. Thus, just because you need 500 skins for a cloak and only 50 scales for a belt doesn't mean anything. Skins used to drop A LOT in TOI (they don't any more so I suspect the price will go up).
If the scale drop rate continues like this and if heart drop rate is low (it is already somewhat difficult to hunt for :) ) I wouldn't be surprised to see scales go for 50k or more.
Speaking of that, did someone see Dark_Goob talking about evolved pets on the main board in a thread on "suggestions on pets". You get the impression that he has multiple evolved pets and it is clear that he is on LOA... do they have different drop rates for scales/hearts?

He has three evolved dobs, I think. He lead one of the largest legit pledges on LoA, and many of his ppl are pretty uber, so it doesn't suprise me that he got those evolved dogs right away. If I recall, the HoD didn't start dropping there with the Ep2 publish, but earlier, so they could have been hording too.

Yes, he commented on that in another thread on the main board. Apparently he got wind of the use of the heart before the Ep2 release and managed to buy one heart before and two right after.

Also of note is that it seems after the first week or two of new content that drop rates decline somewhat, so I wonder if that will happen with scales?

I guess scales will be around 50-60k each.
50 are needed for the belts.. that makes 2.5-3m for a shining belt of body, which gives +50 hp like the bob, but +1 hp regen. Bob is 2.5m.. maybe price will fall with, when scales become cheaper.
Also, that would make a fruit of evolution 5-6m, that'd be the price of a Dragon Heart too, since it also can be traded for a fruit.
