How do you feel about how NC has handled the bans for people who exploited the bug?

They did exactly what I would have done.

They over-reacted with a three-day ban for something that was their fault.

Three days? Are you kidding me? Show us a six-month ban, minimum.

I would be satisfied with nothing short of a perma-ban for anyone who got more than two items or who sold anything they got.

I could understand getting

I could understand getting two items, just testing to see if all the quivers give arrows or if it was just 1 quiver... etc...

But...

If they tried to sell/profit from the items in any way... Or if they sat and opened quiver after quiver after quiver... Permanent ban the freaking cheaters.

I agree with the three day

I agree with the three day ban given that NC did not seperate anyone out. If you touched anything to do with the bug at all, no mater what your involvement, you were banned. If NC was going to do anything stiffer, say perma-ban, then they would have to seperate out the innocent from those that were actively taking advantage. After all there were ppl that didn't know what was going on till they got the items from their quivors, and yet, they got the 3 day ban too. Now, just imagine how long it would take for NC to seperate out the ones that took advantage of ppl before they acted... It would have been 3 months or more before they did anything I think. I am glad they did what they did, as quickly as they did. Deffinately quicker acting than NC has been on a lot of other problems.

I would presume once they

Chryses's picture

I would presume once they have found all the items, which they did to do the 3-day ban, they could fairly easily write a script that would search the logs and find anyone who tried to sell one.

But, admittedly, my knowledge of how scripting and the game code interacts is limited.

Well, I am on dial up and

Jesy's picture

Well, I am on dial up and the d/l for Epi5 took me past the time this thing occured so I was not even in game yet but my 2 cents is, this Epi came on too soon. Was it even wiped from test? They could have split the d/l for one thing. You can't tell me I am the only sap on dial up....Did some of the people who did this thing even know they were doing wrong?....
Anyway, I AM glad they discovered the problem early and took care of it. Now if we could get some more info on how to do quests etc that'd be great!
Jesy, confused elf welcoming any help she can get ;)

I know there were people

Chryses's picture

I know there were people continuing to do it even after it was said on global by multiple people that it was exploiting a bug and NC had said in the past they had a zero-tolerance policy for that.

It's really not as simple for me as picking on those options. Clearly different people deserve different punishments.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: They could fix a lot of what is wrong with the Lineage if they made stupidity a bannable offense. If you did two of these and then decided to go back for more or to sell the stuff you were either blatantly trying to cheat the system or you were not too bright if you thought it was a "feature."

From what i could see NC

LadyCrystael's picture

From what i could see NC banned all that had a Sayha XBow &/or the elemental quivers in their inventory.
I discovered it on accident, when I was trying to get my elf arrows.
So then I jumped to LoA to see if it was just happening on Ken or All servers, before I reported it.
I got 3 day ban along with the others that were seen selling the items for mass fortunes on the LoA server.
I did not sale/recieve any income from the items that came out of my quivers prior to reporting to NC that this is what I found when I tested it out.
At first I thought maybe this had only affected the prior to ep5 release, so ya I went and made a few more new quivers to see if all were affected.
After I saw that ALL (meaning prior to ep5 and after ep5 quivers that were created;) thats when i went to the lin boards to see what was being said about it, and then reported it.
But just because I found it on accident, had a few items in my inventory, on both servers, and reported it as a glitch/bug...I still got a 3 day ban.
I aggreed with fracas in his thread, it was a programming error that caused this problem.
I dont feel that all of us should be banned permanately for finding the glitch, especially those that DID NOT sell/recieve income from the items, instead reported it and waited to see what would happen from that point on.
As i said on the lin boards, you can not classify those that found it on accident to those that found it on TEST, DID NOT REPORT IT,AND WAITED FOR IT TO HIT THE LIVE SERVERS, SO THEY COULD MASS PROFIT FROM THE ITEMS. These are the ones that should have permanate ban.
I for one am happy i never played on TEST!
But because NC wipes TEST, they probably cant find the original purpertrators that discovered it on TEST, to be accurate as to making a final decision on which of those 350 accts had pre-EP5-LIVE knowledge of this glitch/bug.
So If NC decides that somewhere down the line they cant figure out whom was on TEST and had pre-knowledge of it, and decides to ban all of us that had a Sayha Xbow at that point, then they not only gona lose my acct, my whole family gona quit, which in real life income they will be losing $75 a month, cause we only pay monthly per account.
**NO OFFENCE**
If NC needs income that bad and doesnt want this type of problems to happen again, for those that mass profited off this glitch, then I suggest they start selling their own adena, for real-life money to their customers as an option.
Other games do this for their customers as an option.
So in essence if u wanted to get ahead via better ac, you could buy a couple mil from the game master or whomever it is actually gone thru, and then this would cut down the thieving on the servers, by those that steal from others JUST to get ahead.
If you dont want to buy extra income for the game you dont have to,
and play it normally.
This is how Gates to Heaven was run, you could buy more "gild" if you wanted to, or you could just play the game normally.
I chose to play the game normally and still managed to make 8 mil 'gild" a day. (thats correct, I could show you screenshots of my inventory from that game, when I stopped playing it, I left at least 15m still in my archer's inventory. And still had better ac and weapons on that game in 8 months time; compared to 4.5yrs in Lineage. -.-
Somethings definately wrong when you can play another game and get better ac /wpns and lots more adena in 1/5th the time, its taken you to achieve it in this one, and dont have to put up with all of LIN's annoyances.
Ive already tested Dark Age of Camelot for 60 days, it has a few annoyances while doing some of the quests, but thats the only problems i had in that one. And the players are friendlier toward strangers there, as many have told me that they thought Ken and LoA were rude to new players, so they didnt stay in LIN long.
LIN isnt dying cause of he bots, its the attitude that new customers get hit with when they start on a server, that is what is driving alot of your 'new blood' away from this game.
Ive fought long and hard to try to keep the "racist" attitude out of the Ken server, but I dont speak korean, so I cant help them much.
But for those that have korean pledges, some of those royals and their many members have honor/respect for me there...so its not totally lost on them.
Ive brought in several to this game, from real life, that used to play other games, some joined my pledge, some went to other pledges, doesnt matter whom they join or not join, its the point Ive put my all into this game in an effort to keep it alive.
But over the last year its just pushed me to more annoyance/aggrevation than I feel I should have to put up with anymore.
This is why i have activated Final Fantasy XI, gona test it for 60 days, (off and on thru-out the week) If it is LESS aggrevating/annoying than LIN is, then i'll be leaving LIN.

Take care all, Have fun and all that :)

p.s. I have 1 fond memory, that I actually was nominated for player of the year, I thank Roo and all of you for that! :)

I have read this same post

I have read this same post in three diff spots now... And I have to say... *please take no offense, as none is intended*....

Bug exploit...
I do not know why you are so worried that you will end up perma-ban... No one appears to have ended up perma-ban from this. Even the most extreme exploiters.... you stumbled across a bug. You should have no fear of being banned. Many people got 3 day ban. And not because 'they have a sayha xbow' they got banned while the accounts were investigated on whether or not they stumbled across the bug as you did, or if they just exploited the heck out of it. It was a preventative action to keep those that really exploited from swapping their items to another account and another account until the only thing lost is the characters themselves. Some good people had to suffer for what the bad people did. Unfortunately you were one of those 'good' people. You have nothing to worry about, stop freaking out. Probably half of the 350 accounts were just average people in the same position as you.
Only ones that will end up perma ban (if any that is) will be the extreme exploiters that profited. Did you profit? No, you have nothing to worry about.

NC Selling adena...
Horrible Idea. Just plain horrible. If NC sells adena at $10 for 1mil. The bots will sell it for 9. So NC will have to sell for 8, so the bots will sell for 7.. etc etc... It wont help the problem, it will ruin the economy even more. 90% of legit people would quit the second NC started offering adena for real money. I would be right out the door.

Comparing Lineage to other games...
Every game is different. Just because you appeared to get so much further in less time on another game doesnt mean something is wrong with Lineage, it means the other game is easier. Making 1mil adena doesnt = making 1mil of some other games money. They are all different. Also another comparison... What took you 4.5 yrs to amass in lineage, may take another person 4months. Its different per person, per game, per time frame. You cant compare one game to another. Just because you got 100 apples from the apple tree this season, doesnt mean you will get 100 oranges from the orange tree next to it.

Just a few thoughts of mine... on a few thoughts of yours...

people who made 1-2 items

Corner's picture

people who made 1-2 items dint now better but people who had like 4-5 hole set of baraka now it was wrong and the now it was cheating.
so bann them think NC can se how many times people keep pushing those arrows.
people was buying elemental stones like crazy couse the want those items.
i dont feel sorry for them if the get permenent bann.

I think 3 day ban + a

I think 3 day ban + a written warning to those NC considered did it out of curiosity knowing something wasn't right would be good. Obviously, huge abuse (large quantity selling in markets) should render a longer ban at least.

But to go all out on this to compensate for difficulty handling bots and hackers would be weak in my eyes, similar to a parent who let's a bad day at work go out over a child who does something relatively minor.
