OSX-FV Bug Study

I have decided since I have some spare time on my hands, to see what is making Fire Valley so slow with the Macintosh.

Above is a screen picture of how ones Mac looks at what is going on with it’s process groups. It gives such information as to what Lineage is using and how. This process picture above was taken at a bookmark I have on FVB all the way to the right. You will notice that the CPU % is at 47.50, a little high for a 2d game. I don't have the picture from the pledge house, but the CPU % was sitting at around 36%.

If you take a look below at the picture as I start to climb the right side of FVB, hardly even going up the first ramp, you can see changes occurring in CPU % as well as with the other Memory Groups.

I have tested other areas and maps, and have yet to see any kind of jumps like this.
If you look at the picture below, I am just about half way up to Val’s Lair, no were close yet, but getting there, there is a massive jump once again in CPU% needed to handle this area of FV.

Well were up to 63%+ of the computers CPU power, and were not even in “Upper FV” yet. At this point things are starting to slow, mobs are not really were they appear to be.

As I get to location (33714, 32304) which is still below Val’s Lair, I get a CPU% jump to
over 71%. Keep in mind were still in the same game, you would think that I loaded a heavy duty 3D game at this point.

At this point in the game I could go no further. Next time I will take a few people up with me so I can crunch some numbers better, and make it to the very top of FV.

The results are bad for just one map, there seems to be some sort of memory bug.
Here are some of the results of Processing Groups and how they went up.

All the groups below represent the start point and end location that I talked about up top

CPU% +23.90%

Real Memory Size: +25.74 MB

Virtual Memory Size +85.02 MB

Shared Memory Size +0.48 MB

Private Memory Size +86.01 MB

Virtual Private Memory Size +84.01 MB

---System Used 733mhz G4 - 1GB SDRAM - 200 GB Free Space on Test Drive - OSX 10.4.9

That is just way to much demand to hunt upper FV. I will try to continue different studies in FV when I have more time. Good luck everyone, l8tr.

I should add that this test

Redirection's picture

I should add that this test was done around 18:00hrs Lineage time, with no music on, just sound affects. It seems to become more powerful (Flux in CPU) the darker it becomes in game.

I hope to be able to get into some other things via the client and package of the Lineage programming, but looking around first for information to make sure I don’t break any laws or TOS.

Lol all I need is to do now is get banned for trying to figure out
why there is this problem. Good Luck in game l8tr.

I am also on a PC and lose

I am also on a PC and lose sound effects in upper FV. Still have music but no sound when I cast a spell or when mops are hit. I have restarted but it does not change.

In about a week or so, I

Redirection's picture

In about a week or so, I should be able to borrow a high end Dell. I was given the ok to install some software that I could use to monitor what is that is going on in upper FV. I will also post my findings on that, when I am able to.

It would help me to determine, what the PC problem is, if you can give some information on the kind of Operating system you two are using and machine type, memory etc. This way I can have something to base my study on as well.

It will take me some time to run the PC test due to the fact the machine I will borrow doesn’t have Lineage installed. Thanks for any feed back.

Good luck in game l8tr ☺

You should see how bad FV is

You should see how bad FV is with Episode 5 when you have two clients running...

First thing I did when I logged in after epi5 launch was a pledge member found pho. I had both chars up, heal slave and tank, and was running to Pho in upper FV... I almost died on both chars, and the other tank I was supposed to be healing almost died to. I felt like my mac was suddenly a PC bogged down with 1000 spyware programs... I bet I hit 100% CPU usage...

Sk8, what version of OSX do

Redirection's picture

Sk8, what version of OSX do you use, and whats the stats on your computer. Some of this information might help me later on. I want to go back up there on a more powerfull system soon, and see what happens. If you don't mind please give me your computer info, right down to ISP type. Thanks gl in game.

Red, Its the Lineage Music

Red,

Its the Lineage Music Sound File '1225.wav' that causes the lag. Disabling/removing this sound file will fix it.

Take a look here.

Thanks bro, checked that out

Redirection's picture

Thanks bro, checked that out yesterday, seemed to work for just a little bit of time. I took that file out and used QT whith a 2nd program called WMV, exported the same file to the same props as the org replaced it, and now I have sound and no lag. I will try and post something on that later want to make sure it all works, stays that way before I give it out.

Corner, your on a PC right? Do you have problems in upper fv or any were else atm? Let me know, just trying to work something out. Thanks good luck in game :).

I have no lag anywhere in

I have no lag anywhere in game, but have heard from many people that they are having problems with it. I'm on a PC and the stats for it are as followed:

2.5ghz
1gb ram
xp professional
crappy vid card GeForce4 MX440 64mb

maybe should try fog remover hack and light hack maybe that would help :)

Thanks for the info LDE, but

Redirection's picture

Thanks for the info LDE, but maybe the good people at NC can just remove the fog for me :). I don't even want to get into the old school hack stuff like they had for underwater in Heine. But maybe they need to fix FV like they fixed Heine?? Think it would work, I think o.o`.

You should use the terminal

Thorncrag's picture

You should use the terminal command "top -u" to measure usage as it is more accurate than any GUI-driven measurement, because the program use will itself cause more usage. You can change the sampling rate of top with "-s [delay]" in seconds, to reduce the amount of usage top uses (e.g. "top -u -s 5").

Also, I personally don't believe the problem is due to a sound file, but rather the graphics. I have also noticed the lag is better during the day which would seem to support this hypothesis.

Nice Thorn .. Dig that pic

I do use the terminal, but that wouldn't look as nice posted ;) Thx for the info, gl in game l8tr :)

You are right, it is a

Conal's picture

You are right, it is a memory leak.
Did run your tests on with and without the soundfolder in place.

Blunt: Remove the entire sound folder and there is not that much leak...
I wonder how the general performance is without the soundfolder. I think about the run/swingspeed. But it need more tests, especial about this memory leak.

I sometimes find the game

I sometimes find the game running progressively slower and slower on my PC. Or progressively laggier, I should say. I wonder if removing sound folder would change that.. I may have to try, even if it's on a PC and not Mac.
