NC and the community

I understand crickette is community.. something.

Now, I have one very simple wish at the moment. That is that s/he has a thread, where she simply lists known issues. For instance:

"User creation on forums
Bots
Mac FV lag
Quiver bug abusers"

Then every week or so, gives a short update on what is being done about it/what is new. For instance:

"User creation on forums - We have asked a programmer to try to link up databases, but he estimates it will take another month at least, due to the complexity of it and security issues.
Bots - Fracas is currently investigating how they work. We wish monitors could be more active in permanently banning bots earlier, but we need very solid and consistent evidence according to our legal advisors before they we can ban.
Mac FV lag - Thanks to submissions from the community, we aim to have sold this in around two weeks, if all works out alright.
Quiver bug abusers - We are investigating this, but it's going slower than we had hoped. Rest assured, we will punish those that exploited it to make large amounts of money. Hopefully before the end of June."

Heck, there could even be a short list at the end (or long) that went:

"We are aware of the following problems, but are unable to change them because of how the game is coded: Chao exploit, bunny griefers.

We are also aware of the difficulties that non-high level knights have in pvp, but we feel that at the moment we are unable to make game adjustments to compensate for this, due to lack of resources. If we solve everything else that has a higher priority and episode 6 does not change this fact, we may try something out."

I can't stress how much this would reduce the frustration I am sure a lot of people feel when they bring their concerns to NCs attention, and aren't even being acknowledged. And if they are acknowledged, there is often very little visible evidence of anything being done about it. Plus, it'd be polite and professional IMO.

I would of course suggest this on NC boards, but can't register there.

Ahh but you see... This

Ahh but you see... This would involve them actually admitting that there are actually issues with the game... If they never admit its a bug, then they never have to fix it... If they admit its a bug, then they are obligated to do something.

While this would be fantastic to see...
This is definitely not something that the NCA we know will EVER EVER do... As this would actually involve both work... and communication to the community... two things that precedent shows, NCA does little of.

As far as Bots... I guess they figure moving all of our bot posts into one thread and deleting any other bot related posts will just make us eventually forget about them... Its working so far!

Well, I understand you are

Well, I understand you are cynical/doubting. I think the lack of communication from NCAs side has certainly nourished such tendencies in the community. But I still have some faith that they can invest 2 hours a week (shouldn't take too much longer, maybe 4 if it's a busy week) to do some PR work in form of a thread like that.

If it keeps half a dozen extra players in the game, their fees should pay for the wage cost.

Sorry for the pessimistic

Sorry for the pessimistic attitude but NC did this to me... =/

I know, and I understand you

I know, and I understand you completely. That's why I hope they would do something like this.

Sk8 is right, though I feel

Tikie's picture

Sk8 is right, though I feel the same way I still /accuse every chance I get on a known botter. I do also hope that they "are" actually dooin' something back there, behind the sceens and will eventually come out with a .. BLAM !!! .. no bots, bugs fixed day !

You got what you asked for

You got what you asked for Ingen.

They are finally stepping up and showing some action. At this point its only verbal action, but its better than nothing. Bug action/communication... Not bot action. One step at a time I guess.

Lets hope it doesnt end with just this one 'Known Issues' thread and continues on to be a weekly or bi-weekly thing.

(My reverse psychology worked!)

They need to fix board account activation really bad, we need people like Ingen over at the Lin boards.

Thank you for that last

Thank you for that last line.

I knew the known issues thread existed, but what I really wanted was more than that. Yes, they are aware that this or that is wrong. Great. But I want to know if something is being done (or why not, even if it is as harsh as "NCK has hardcoded it and they don't want to change it"), and how long it is expected to take (I'd rather have delays than no ETA at all). Also, I hope they'll continue to update it, and not just leave it as a one off thing.

Since I am not sure whether Crickette reads these boards frequently (or at all), could you possibly send her a message using the linboards messaging system about this thread's existance, or the ideas in it?

Did you see todays posted

Did you see todays posted known issues list? Not exactly what youre asking for, but way better than what we have gotten in the past. (Ignored...)

I have seen both Fracas and Crickette over here on these boards.

No, I had missed it. Thank

No, I had missed it. Thank you for pointing it out. I'm very happy to see an update, and a clear explanation what they are aware of, what they are investigating, and what they are unable to reproduce.

Still missing the "We expect to have figured it out by X/We have no when we'll crack it/It is not a priority atm" explanation, but it is a very very good start.

Thank you Crickette (and anyone else involved in deciding to make that post come true).
