Hey guys,
I am currently looking into ways to make our KG Ring process better. By better I mean more frequent. By more frequent I mean "as originally intended". I have come to a question that I'd like to share with all of you.
When the KG ring changes, would you prefer that the change be the same for every ring on the server or would you be interested in seeing each ring become one of several possibilities each week? The latter wouldn't mean that every instance of the ring would be unique, however it would mean there's a high chance the ring you're wearing will be different than the guy standing next to you.
If you are interested in the latter, would you prefer an interactive lottery-like process involving tickets and an NPC or would you just want the rings in your inventory to be different than before when you log in after a maintenance?
Run on sentence, much?
Thanks in advance for your responses!

On the first point, as far
On the first point, as far as more frequent changes, good!!!
On the second point, variable kg rings sounds cool, too. Not sure I want to deal with an NPC, but depending upon the details....
To me this change falls into the nice but not critical category, which means that if there is a chance we get new bugs or other issues along with it, it isn't worth it... If you are comfortable that this won't crash the servers or create some new lag/disconnect issues, then bravo and carry on!
There's my feedback,
SwiftWind
frequent chances are good,
frequent chances are good, that would be nice. the unique rings sounds interesting. I would go for just having it changed in inventory rather than a NPC to check with, unless it was a interesting way(like mini quest).
Now back to the event ^^
Yes and no. First one, great
Yes and no.
First one, great idea. It really should change, at LEAST every reset. But sometimes it seems like I should wake up and it should be something different.
Second idea, where different rings throughout server... That is where it seems there will be issues.
Many times, you can not tell what the KG does by looking at the ring.
This will open up people to being scammed. Whether buying a KG ring out of GTV, or from someone on global. They can say their ring does this or that, worth paying a little more for, then you buy it and put it on and it doesnt do whatever they said it does.
This kind of brings up another issue about not being able to see what an item does when it is for sale in a shop (traders village or even real shop)
I love the idea of completely random rings for different people, but I do not like the effect it would have on the market of the ring, nor the way itll end up with people getting scammed (probably every single day)

I like the different effects
I like the different effects on KG rings idea. It keeps things interesting and it increases the chances I will find something of some use to me. For example, if I got 10% weight reduction and a knight got +2 wisdom ... we could switch.
Valid concerns, but I'd
Valid concerns, but I'd expect buyers to understand they are buying a ring that frequently changes opposed to a ring that does X, whether they're told it does X or they're able to see it does X through an identify. If players would do that after this implementation, I'm sure they're doing it today.
That said, making decisions based on what I'd expect players to do doesn't always work out so good. Y'all are endlessly spontaneous and crafty.
As for the shop identify issues, I hear that. I have a list of items that could use better identification text, but that'd only help a little since identifying doesn't dance well with shop windows. Thank heavens for lindb. ^^
Frequently changes or not...
Frequently changes or not... Doesnt matter much when you are buying a particular item. For instance...
Int (besides poly's) is the most sought after bonus on the KG ring. (Or most any item for that matter)
As the bonus it gives to a mage is that great.
If rings were truly random.... I can almost guarantee that there will always be people in gtv selling a KG ring that they claim does int. I guess thats just what you got to look for when buying them though, maybe never buy KG ring out of gtv. I would just hate to create a lineage world where you have you go around doubting/not trusting what people tell you.
But basically what I am saying is... If a KG ring out there does DK poly, or Int, even if only for a couple of days, people will pay double for it over almost any other KG ring. And they will buy it knowing full well it will change.
But I think it would be cool personally to have random rings...
I would go through and make about a dozen of them. That way, I will always have a KG ring that helps me. Got to be something good in that dozen!

Changing more often is
Changing more often is good
Having each ring be random is a TERRIBLE idea.
a) It will lead to people collecting hundreds of rings, driving the price of TQDs through the roof (not terrible I suppose)
b) Once you HAVE hundreds of rings, every week you'll have to try them on one after the other to see which one gives you that +1 int or whatever it is you want.
I don't really want to spend 50 million adena on some KG rings just so I can test them all each week. This is a non-official item and should not work in this way. It should be a fun item with good/bad times, not "always good times as long as you can afford 100 of them".
I'd like to see it change to
I'd like to see it change to something useful weekly :)
i agree with sk8, o.o yes i
i agree with sk8, o.o yes i agree with him whats the matter with me!!! lol sk8s first comment is the onei agree with, also the second he makes very good points...

I Like both your Ideas
I Like both your Ideas Fracas.
The Ring Should change at least 2 times a month (every other reset) .
Having each ring change individually rocks as well, I agree with Chryses on that point cause I would swap w/my Pledgies as needed to get the most out of them. Not like your out a ring, you still got one. No need to mess with an NPC and tickets an all that, keep it simple.
One the other points raised ....
As for the description .. make it so ALL effects are shown on a ring that is Identified. Including that hp/mp Loss crap we had a while back that didn't show o.0
As for the Market Value of the Ring ... Anyone who pays more than what it would cost to Make the Ring themself is throwing money away in my opinion. Show me a guy who will pay like 10M for one cause of what it does for the next cycle and I'll sell em 2 !!!

Nobody else sees a problem
Nobody else sees a problem with KG ring being the best ring in game every day, all the time?
If you change it so each ring has unique stats, nobody good will EVER use another ring again. Seriously, swapping with pledgemates? Scamming based on stats? Those aren't even close to being significant reasons why this is a bad idea.
If this happens, you are giving everyone who has the adena:
+2 int to every mage PERMANENTLY
+2 str to every knight/DE PERMANENTLY
+2 dex to every elf PERMANENTLY
+whatever it is princes like PERMANENTLY
That is HUGELY unbalancing to the game. Stats are supposed to be hard to come by for a reason. Ask anyone else who has leveled a con/wis mage to 50 whether +2 int makes a difference. We are already super-carebears compared to Korea. Don't push it this far. If LOA wants unique rings, fine, but don't bring it to Dep. We stayed on Dep when LOA came out for a reason... and this is that reason incarnate.
PS - Unique rings would not bother me if they could NEVER be stats.
You are not necessarily
You are not necessarily permanently giving everyone who has the adena those stats.
There are endless possibilities you can put in for the KG ring.
Just to start
+1 hp regen
+2 hp regen
+3 hp regen
+4 hp regen
+1 mp regen
+2 mp regen
+3 mp regen
+4 mp regen
+1 hp/mp regen
+2 hp/mp regen
... You get the point.
They could put so many possible combinations out there that you would have to get 1000s of rings to ensure one of those. And even then you would have to go through all those rings to find it. And even then we're talking about changing it with each reset so you would have to start the process all over again every week.
Additionally, you would not even have to put +2 on the rings as an option. Some weeks you could just flat take that option.
There are dozens of ways around that problem.
Ive seen the KG ring as
Ive seen the KG ring as multiple things, right down to DK , and DE polys, its been ROTC, ROPC, ROSC (i think ROSC cant remember) its been +2 to bow hit.. its been so manythings that i cant even remember it all, i think the funnest thing was i logged onto loa, and was standing there in a DEATH KNIGHT poly and im like what the heck!!!! then a week or two later i logged on and i was in darkelf poly, there are lots of things that it could be, i do think that ppl will try to pick the thing most helpful, to me a faster shooting poly (de just because i love it) is what i would want all the time.. im con water so i dont care about regen cuz i have natures touch and ALA i regen hp/mp rather fast.. so that wouldnt do much for me to have HP/MP rings on elf being thats my main char. for the fact that i can b2s with natures touch going waterlife myself and hit a greater heal and be full mp/hp.
i like the idea of the rings they have done lots of helpful stuff in the past and id love to see more helpful stuff in the future.. anyone can make a ring u dont have to be super rich to do it.. all u need is a 5% ring and a top quality ruby saphire emerald and diamond while the diamonds are hard to come arcoss they are not as uncommon as they used to be, i have 3 kg-rings 2 that i made and one that was given to me, i have one for each of my chars, im not afriad to loan a ring to someone that i know or trade one for something else.. im very flexible..
Fracas the unique rings is awesome idea yet i still think Tickets and an NPC might confuse ppl..

Well this change went to
Well this change went to Test server today. Go test and see how it goes people.
I think people are overestimating it though. They seem to think that every ring will be different, and that there will be endless possibilities of rings.
I think Fracas' intention is more along the lines of, instead of 1 type of ring each reset, there will be 10(random #) types. That doesnt mean that all 10 will be good, or that even any of them will be good. That doesnt mean that a mage can find the +1int ring if they look for it, because it may not even be an option that week.
I think it would be a welcome change to have more random rings. Sometimes the rings are just great, sometimes they suck. I absolutely love the current KG ring (half mp heals) but not everyone does.
Got Blog?
I kinda like the current
I kinda like the current system and some good points has already been given for and against the changes. But even I do not like all kinda hassle (read trying to figure out what which of the rings do now), I have to admit that the planned changes would fit more to the original nature of this ring. It was supposed to be more random thing than it currently is.
And of course, if it gets to be too big hassle for me to try and figure out what my rings do, I can always stick to the traditional rings and bury the KGs in the storage. Anyways, I just hope the rings are not forgotten totally if they can example have very dangerous effects etc. But of course their popularity can also rise by this change, because people might gather piles of them to have bigger propability to get good effect.
I am just wondering, that will every ring be independently given random effect, or are they already categorized with several other rings. What I mean by categorizing is that if someone has, say 5 KGrings, and 2 of them has same effect they would then be in same category for the rest of the game, meaning they always have the same effect? Or will it be more like every time the effects change, every ring is an individual and even the two rings had same effect previously, they might get differend ones the next time? Huh, well that seems like complicated explanation, hopefully you got what I meant.
I dont think having KG ring
I dont think having KG ring as a unique random on every ring a good idea.. if you did that:
I will honestly probably make at least 10-100 kg rings myself and put it on a mule character and when a reset happens ill go thru my rings and see which i like and then wear it...Every SMART/Rich person would and will do that lol.. and i do have lots of tqd in my storage that i never sold yet lol :)
Now if you made it non tradeable.. then people will probably try to make 10 or more on each char if it was lightweight.. thus you should probably have it really heavy.. or! if you make it non tradeable then if a person has 3 or more kg ring in his inventory then it should make his weight gaudge = 100% (kinda like how if u have 100 items or sumtin ur weight becoems 100%) Therefore forcing the character to delete 1 of his 3 rings (since u cant trade or drop).. and im pretty sure people arnt gona waste thier money making a kg ring every reset to see if they can get a better one since of the above mentioned.
But do remember.. if you make it tradeable then I can see many people making multiple KG rings (including myself) and just keep it on a mule character
..:: My Blog ::..
I would do the same thing. I
I would do the same thing. I would make more and more rings all the time.
Thats why I believe this type of KG ring change should have around 5-10 different rings. Instead of every one being different, or 1/100 being the same as another. And make sure that at least 1 of those 5-10 is for sure a bad thing, and not a good thing. That way, people will not hoard 100 rings, as they will not need that many. And that way there will not always be an int ring out there for the mages to buy up, and not always be a dk poly ring out there... etc etc.
Got Blog?
I don't really have a
I don't really have a problem with that. I won't. Can't afford it.
But if someone wants to make 100 rings and spend however much time that is every Wednesday to check them all to find the most useful one, it's fine with me.
I have enough people in the pledge who will trade rings that I think I can get by with four or five and find something useful for everyone.
It doesnt take long if u
It doesnt take long if u have them Identified.
