MAC Laptop vs PC Laptop - Questions
I didnt want to hijack the other thread so I thought id start a new one on this.
"The distinct difference between the Mac client and the PC client (other than the never ending list of mac-client bugs *cough* fracas *cough*) is that the Mac client supports windowed-mode using CMD+L and you're able to run multiple instances of Lineage on a single machine." - Rooella
Q1. Wouldnt that slow the processer down and add lag to ur gameplay?
Q2. I could see that being useful if it didnt lag or slow the computer down, But isnt thier a way you can do that on a normal laptop via virtual server or something..
Q3. And is a MAC better for multimedia versus PC?
I watch alot of anime and i always have music playing so does MAC support all those different codecs like divx ogg mkv and what not? Since that ususly gets updated alot by the Anime subbers.
Q4. Would it be compatible with the PS3 for streaming purposes.. cause right now I use Windows media player 11 to stream(Video/pictures/mp3) from my laptop to Ps3, (other then the occasional lag/slowdown since my ps3 is on the other side of the house compared to my laptop/router)
Q5. If i connected a left&right click mouse to a MAC would I be able to use the right click like how it works for the PC (To alternate between targets taht are too close together)

Q6. What MAC book would you
Q6. What MAC book would you recommend today?
1. No - the more modern
1. No - the more modern CPU's are fast enough to cope with multiple instances of Lineage. Even the new Intel macs running Lineage through the Rosetta emulator cope just fine... After all they do have dual-core CPU's now. (Lineage is still a PowerPC binary application so it has to be translated in real-time on newer macs - this doesn't cause any noticeable problems.) You can even run Microsoft Windows in a window on the new macs on one of your spare CPU cores.
2. It's very useful. I use one (or even two) instance(s) for my GTV character(s) and one for my main.
Yes you can do it on a normal laptop but it will likely slow yer machine down. Windows isn't too great at that stuff vs Unix (the Mac OS kernel)
3. They used to be, but now the hardware is pretty much identical. The distinguishing difference is the Operating System (Mac OS X Tiger which is based on Unix - it tends to handle applications and process threads much better - then we could talk about spyware viruses etc... all of which slow down your Windows-based PC)
4. Yes to all except for Windows Media DRM files. Microsoft never bothered to update Media Player on the mac yet - so copy protected stuff doesn't play. Everything else works fine... That said, you could still run a copy of Windows on your mac if you *really* wanted to...
5. Yes. Mac OS supports right-click. The new Mac Mighty Mouse is a 4 button + scroll-ball (multi directional scroll wheel) jobby. Left, Right, Middle, Scroll & Squeeze.
6. That all depends on what you want to do. For PC gaming, the MacBook Pro 15" with the 256MB NVIDEA graphics card (like the one I have muwhaha). For Lineage, any old crappy mac will do (800MHz G3 or better).
~Was #4 an answer about the
~Was #4 an answer about the video formats playable on a MAC or on the PS3?
~I looked at taht Laptop you have and its really expensive in canada.. 2.8k before tax at apple.ca
~Im getting a new Dell Laptop (the uni program Im in makes me buy/lease a laptop from them and so Im going to be exchangeing the t42 they gave me the previous year for a brand new dell one)
but my old IBM r51(which I leased then bought after the lease was up, at the first year of uni thrrough the program) seems to be dieing so I may purchace a new laptop(for my own use), either a Mac Pro like the one you have(due to its multimedia capabilities + lineage instances) or a PC laptop due to the fact id be able to get something similar to the Mac Pro for a cheaper price.
~I use my laptop for many things not just lineage, but lineage is the only game I play on it, but I can see myself testing/playing some games in the future that will demand alot on the video/processor side.
~Thanks for all the answers Roo, but It would be nice if I can get some more input from others v.v ~

Here is one of those PC
Here is one of those PC Laptops that does what the Mac book pro does in performance and maybe even better for 800-900$ lower
Asus G1S-A1 Intel Core 2 Duo T7500
but in the end it could be the difference between the operating systems that would make the MAC stand out according to you guys, but I have yet to experience a MAC OS in recent years.
If i were to install linux onto a PC laptop would that be the same as running a MAC OS? and is thier a big learning curve to learn linux? or is it GUI friendly if you know what i mean.

Q1 and 2 are the only things
Q1 and 2 are the only things that I really have any knowledge on... So I will share.
Multiple instances on the same computer is exactly how I heal bot myself everyday. I load two instances of Lineage, run them side by side in windowed mode... This makes them small, as they are not full screen anymore. So if your screen is not at least 19in you are not going to be able to read chat very well, and it will be hard to target at times. It can be hard to target in the midst of 10 monsters at full screen... So now imagine that at less than 1/3 the size....
Why do I do it on a Mac instead of dual PC's? One, because a Mac is all I have... And two because I can do it using 1 keyboard, 1 mouse, 1 screen. That way I ALWAYS have every hot key in my hand at all times. And that way my hand never leaves one keyboard to go to another, and I never switch hands between mice. Left hand is always on both sets of hotkeys, right hand is always on mouse doing targeting and movement.
As far as slowing down the computer... I have been doing it for 3 years on the same computer. Sometimes I leave my computer up for weeks at a time, and it still is able to perform perfectly running dual apps. I also normally have itunes and firefox running. (Great for viewing maps while you are running through floors) But... One time I loaded three app's, three accounts. To take a boat to PI... And just sitting and riding the bot, the computer was too bogged down. There is no way I could have actively played three instances at once.
At times, I would estimate that I click back and forth between the two applications upwards of 20 times in 10 seconds... But it has no negative effect on either application. It just keeps on running perfectly.
The only downfall is the small screensize. If you were running a desktop computer, and running dual screens... It would be heal bot heaven.... All the bonuses of dual application, with the full screen view of dual pc's.

Nostromo n52 pad is what i
Nostromo n52 pad is what i use to heal wit 2 laptops..my left hand is on the pad to heal while the right hand controls my mouse/melee... id only have to look at the melee screen and wouldnt even really have to look at the mages screen. I think its pretty ideal since when emergency do arise u can always just look on the mages screen and control the laptop mouse if it ever loses target or something else major happens on the screen like if u get too close to splash damage.

I play both chars completely
I play both chars completely independently. I dont force target to stay on one character because many times I have to heal more than one person, or cast things like Mass Slow. I also never used auto follow (before that was removed with epi5)
Got Blog?
actually auto-follow still
actually auto-follow still works ^^
w/ nostromo pad u can assign
w/ nostromo pad u can assign a key to act like the left click button so if u keep pressin it, it will follow ur char.. (hence the auto follow(the holding an arrow down) wont be missed) and this way ur hunt will be faster cause u wont have to move 1 char at a time and you can move both chars simultaneously

After i installed ubuntu as a dual os on my slow laptop. I tried it out and it works like a charm, no lag or anything when opening progs and its smooth as it could ever be. I have yet to get an emulator for lineage but for now that slow laptop I once had is now lightning fast v.v Go Linux!
