Elemental Resistance Rings

coronis's picture

Hi all,

is that me or do the elemental resistance rings not work as expected? I see no difference when I wear 2 x Rings of Air Resistance and approaching Dark Elder or Greater Spirit of Wind.

With 70% EMR I should notice a difference when I take damage from Air-Based spells but there is no difference! I tried on the same Great Wind Spirit (Dream Island) 1st with 2 X ROAs and 2nd without both times each attack took around 200 HP (well with 82% GMR I'm still well protected).

BTW: I'm on Mac, maybe its a Mac only issue?

I don't see why your client

I don't see why your client would have anything to do w/ that. I would think that info would be stored server-side in a database.... but who knows.

Have you tried it with Fire/Earth/Water? Just curious. Maybe it's not the elemental that is messed up, perhaps just the wind rings are bugged?

Water and Fire rings are

Water and Fire rings are working fine as they should for me. Never used Wind rings though but I suppose it could just be a problem with the Wind rings.

Client should have no direct impact on game play. I use both platforms fine.

Wind rings seem to work fine

Wind rings seem to work fine for me (and I use a mac). Being a dex elf with low HP, I could never survive VS these two mops. With the rings on I can manage. But I have to agree it does seem 60% wind resistance should do more. Maybe these mops just have high SP compared to other mops?

Test the rings on Dark Elves

Test the rings on Dark Elves and their tornado's. Perhaps what appears to be a wind spell is not actually a wind based elemental spell.

that or.. thier isnt as much

Prominence's picture

that or.. thier isnt as much elemental damage in the spell being casted and more magic

Elemental MR works, fine.

Elemental MR works, fine.

It just works differently than MR. MR is a % chance to cut the damage in half. ER is the % the damage of that magical element gets cut.

I can tell a huge difference in using Elemental rings on DI. I would rather use elemental MR there, than I would 100% general MR.

Got Blog?

Thats the point, I attacked

coronis's picture

Thats the point, I attacked the same Greater Wind Spirit, first with Wind Rings on, second time without Wind Rings (GMR was the same 82% both times) but there was no difference at all. Both times I took around 200HP damage per spell (looks like a Tornado).

Currently I can not test with other rings but I know that ROFs work fine in TOI for me.

I'll test the Rings on Dark Elfs....

Later: I've tested the rings with Dark Elfs - but hard to say - regardless if with or without the wind rings, I take only minimal (maybe 10hp max) damage from them, so I can't say if the rings work or not.

I am looking forward to the

I am looking forward to the day I don't have to wear 10% mr rings to attain 100% General MR and I can switch out my elemental resistant rings depending on the boss / area I am hunting. That will make things quite nice =]

Ill never have that

Ill never have that ability... (On my knight.) sigh

Well knights can get the

Well knights can get the highest elemental resistance. Knights can get 100% elemental correct?? I cannot remember for sure. I can have 100% mr and 70% elemental resistance possibly a tad more if I get a corresponding dragon armor (the regular ones give a little Elemental resistance no?)

Ya, knights can get 124%elem

Ya, knights can get 124%elem resist (I believe.)
Elves can get 104%elem resist.
All other classes can get 94%. (Unless royals have something I dont know remember..)

Got Blog?

Regular dragon armor gives

Ballistic's picture

Regular dragon armor gives 20 elemental resist, magical dragon armor gives 50 (knight only)
elemental cloaks - 10% ele MR
rings 30% each
fire/ice/dark/wind spirit glove + crystal gloves - 4% each
elves have that 10% spell as well
knight = 124%
elf = 104%
all others = 94%

also you have remember that elemental MR is just like normal MR in that it goes up to 200, so having 60% wind MR is really like having 30% overall, so only a 30% reduction, which while still good, wouldnt be as noticeable as 60%

edit: sorry sk8 didnt see u posted some of this already :P

Yes elemental rings give you

Yes elemental rings give you a percentage chance to take half of the damage from that attack. remember its not 60% reduction in the ammt of damage. (wearing 2 rings) but 60% to take half the damage. not automatic .

Moli

No, MR is % to cut in half.

No, MR is % to cut in half. ER is damage reduction. If ER did the same thing as MR, everyone would just wear full MR.
Got Blog?

I have done siginficant

I have done siginficant testing with 100% GMR and 100% Fire and elemental mr is similar reduction however fire resistance is a little better than gmr, not a ton better vs that specific element of magic. GMR is overall better to have cuz its got multiple uses but elemental is more limited. also there are spells that have no element.

just my experience.

Mol

Yes GMR is better, in most

Yes GMR is better, in most cases.
Your testing came out that way because... 100% fire mr means you took only 50% damage of that fire spell. On top of that, your MR could have kicked in and cut that down in half again. 100 -> 50 -> 25 damage. Or if GMR failed its just 50 damage taken.

60% EMR would mean you for sure take 30% less damage (of that element) and then your GMR can kick in and half the left over damage. 100 -> 70 -> 35 or just 70 if GMR doesnt kick in.

But if you had 100%GMR it would be for sure, 100 -> 50 and then your EMR can kick in and cut that down some to.

I under stand your points

I under stand your points but i dont see it the way you do. lets get a GM to comment on the reality of the effects.

It would also be nice if MR

It would also be nice if MR continued to be effective in reducing damage from attack spells as opposed to just curse spells after 100% mr =]

I been playing for over 7

Ballistic's picture

I been playing for over 7 years now and im still working on my MR gear (including ele MR)
i have faf and anth armor, working on lind armor now
one day ill be able to switch between em all :)

hey fracas! how bout a better dragon armor? cost like 5 scales of each type, same ac, but 40 ele resist of each element??? something along those lines? could be like, Magical Armor of Dragon Slayer, and just look like a Black MDSM. Id love to have that, rather than lug 5 armors around all the time ^_^

People say hindsight is 20/20. I say, who the heck has eyes in their hindparts?

Fire Kitty is watching you! So be nice!

I had been playing with a

I had been playing with a similar thought about an Elementals Dragon Armor, but the cost for it should be 1 of each of the dragon armors, otherwise it would get ridiculous. something like that should take a long time to get and be very costly. 40% of each element 2 more ac than regular dragon armors. mp/hp regen while overweight. as an aside knights need to regen mp while overweight in order for some of the new knight skills to be useful.

Scintilating Dragon Armor

Moli

The cost should be 1 of each

Prominence's picture

The cost should be

1 of each MDSM (the 50Elemental resis ones)
+ 10 of each scale
+ 1000 of each relic
+ 10,000 Mgems
+ 100m in adena

=)

I would like to point out...

I would like to point out...

On my knight, when gathering all the ingredients for just ONE armor, I had to put gear in storage and lower my weight just to take all the ingredients to the guy to turn them into the Armor, and that was at 93% weight.

Now, How am I supposed to carry 10k mgems and 4k relics, and 4 dragon armors to turn them into something else?

Got Blog?

You can have an npc that

Prominence's picture

You can have an npc that would take those requirements and make em into another item w/ a lesser weight

4 MDSM become = Rainbow Armor weight 250
2000 mgem = 1 Solarized crystal ..weight 10? .. need 5 of these
100or 1000 relics become = 1 Solarized [relic name] Relic ..weight 10..
get the idea?

..:: My Blog ::..

LoL that list of

LoL that list of requirements is pretty insane. I do not think it would have to be that extreme. The four armors at least yes.

That armor would be pretty

and has the middle ground between a kedo and kclaw in terms of hit/dmge/base dmge
