What is disappointment? In Lineage terms it may come in a bunch of different forms... disconnect deaths, gameplay changes, bots excelling beyond u, nerfs, machine death, etc. I am pretty sure I have felt them all, and for you uninitiated, I shall spell it out.
Disconnect Deaths
When playing Lineage few things are so disheartening as disconnect deaths. Nothing will make a person blow all their stuff and quit faster then a horribly mistimed disconnect. Case and point my almost DK level disconnect death. Oh I have been thru my fair share of disconnect deaths. I reached level 49 back in the old days of 13%+ death experience loss. Those oldies of us will remember those days with loathing and horror, as when i reached lvl 49.13% and disconnect died and went right back to level 49.0%. Sadly I was comforted by the fact that I hadn't deleveled which would have almost assuredly, negatively affected my already ridiculously low dexterity elf's hit points. My absolute worst disconnect death was with that same Dex elf at (and I still remember) 51.98.88%... yes at the time that is as far as the exp % displayed. At the same time my friend and pledgemate Sabrine was leveling to 55 and we were almost at the same percent so as to level at approximately the same time. Instead I d/c died and lost 5% and had to congratulate her an hour later... whilst I was made to level the next day because I was unable to make up the 5% within the day. Oh glory to the Lineage D/C death!
Game Play Changes
Nothing ruins a characters leveling capacity or usefulness quite like a Game Play Change. Every game play change has always caused extraordinary upheaval. The sudden implementation of Sgem expense for clear mind, elemental resist and magic resist whilst at the same time making Sgems no longer drop in game, has always been one of my favorites. The Sgem cost for Natures Blessing will always be close to my heart. Being level 51 and 75% when they finally institute the Fire archer morph even though you've been begging for a 50 or 51 morph for years is awesome! But my absolute favorite will always be when NC made it so that White and green named mops gave considerably less experience per kill then blue or gold or red named mops... especially when people who were level 52+ could barely even find(TOI didn't even exist yet) blue+ named mops to kill.
Bots Excelling Beyond You
It is always wonderful to see a pledgemate Excel beyond your capabilities, but there is nothing so endearing as watching a Bot do the same. Case and point JohnnyDepp and Riverphoenix... I remember them leveling in owl with orc scout poly whilst my lvl 49 mage was trying to get to level 50. It is so wonderful to see them now at level 65+ totally stealing my mops on TOI 51+ whilst I struggle to get to level 55. Even better then that, it is ever so beautiful to catch obvious bots, with a monitor(while u take Screen shots of the event), and then have the bot later deny being a bot on global(this is a truly sacred event, I suggest you all do it at least once).
Nerfs
This is a Subject I truly enjoy discussing. Ah Nerfs, is there nothing better?! Oh how can I possibly verbalize my feelings about the innumerable nerfs I have adapted to... Perhaps this Haiku will approach it....
Change the Game will you
Shall Adapt with Honors... F&*@
You did it again!
Just to name a few.... Summons nerf from 8->2... the DE poly spell casting nerf(used to be insta cast, no animation)... bapho and beleth spell casting nerf(used to be insta cast, no animation)... the 5->3 wis Clear mind nerf... the sgem for clear mind, magic resist and elemental resist nerf... the shortening of str and dex length nerf(used to be 30 mins).... the curse spell nerf(weapon break and paralyze used to actually work and not nullify your spell usage for ages and para used to last 2 mins)... the Silence spell nerf(silence used to work for 2 mins), cancel nerf(cancel used to work 100% of the time, this i kinda agree with since ppl use it to grief but it was still nerfed), spell length nerfs(now spells don't end when they say they are supposed to, on top of being much shorter then they used to be).
Fix your previous nerfs before nerfing more, all we need on our servers is more damn bugs!!
Last but not least...
Machine Death
This is I think this is 4th machine I've killed playing lineage... I'm not sure if it's the game that does it or me but i will tell you it's got super bad arse timing. I was at level 49 and 99.92xx% on my princess which will be my 3rd character on the same account to level to 50+. My other 2 characters are a level 60 dex elf, leveled in the old ken days of Korean Rulesets and having 75 people on the servers. That character was a test of my love for the game and my love for my server. Ken has the best community hands down, all you others are wanna be's. Then my level 55 mage, who made it to 51 before the LOA ruleset was forced on Ken and who had 18con, 18wis, 10char and 14int(that's right no 51+ for me till i was 52+, now that is commitment). When I buy my new computer tomorrow and hopefully install all the software i need within a reasonable amount of time, I shall level my princess to 50 and toast all the fricken cool people on Ken who not only helped me to do what i have done but made it fun along the way.
Regardless of all the crap I have put up with along the 6 years I have been playing this game, the one thing that has stayed constant throughout my lineage time has been the awesome people I have played with who have supported me thru my downs and cheered me on thru my ups. To all of you, I Salute You! May your lags be short, may your level ups be prodigious, and may your bosses drop everything you ever dreamed of!
With much love and as a testiment to disappointment and perseverance,

i disagree with the"nerfs".
i disagree with the"nerfs". those are changed that are needed and were good.
/agree, this game is fun
/agree, this game is fun with a challenge...at least for some O.o
1) The issue is not whether
1) The issue is not whether or not someone wants a challenge. The issue is whether or not someone wants to invest days out of their life to level a character only to see SOMEONE ELSE decide the the game is too easy for them and nerf the character.
2) I hope that you play Dep and not LoA because that is the only way your "the game is fun with a challenge" argument will have ANY credibility. Everyone playing LoA CHOSE to have the game made easier for them. Those of us on Ken and Dep had it forced on us.
3) If someone does not like nerfs but they want to go back to 13% experience loss on death, are they still wanting the game to not be challenging?
The 13% exp penalty for
The 13% exp penalty for death was quite excessive IMO. The 5% was manageable and even more so if you decided to buy back. I stayed on DEP and continue to play there, but I will admit I do at times like having only a 1% exp penalty. It doesn't make me so pissed off if I die as it used to. One hour is better than 2 hours and let alone the old 13 hours of hunting..
Wow, very well put for the
Wow, very well put for the grand majority. And ye d/c deaths are a travesty. Being Level 16, dying, and losing 25 blessed teleportation scrolls sucks. I'm poor! :P
I've died so many times from
I've died so many times from lag or disconnects that I really have no idea how many times I've probably died anymore. I know I died atleast 20 times per level between 45 and 52. I used to play on a dial up connection and I would frequently die in front of high level players, embarrassing myself.
I also used to hunt oren wasteland and constantly get griefed by COOLHIGH (the old user) and NoLife. When I was able to save up enough money (250k) to get a 51f scroll, back when it was only elmore zombies up there... I would get venzed by someone such as Dranno or I would d/c.
I've dropped a lot of items... cloaks, rings, belts, etc.. and I even dropped 73m adena on accident one time because numlock wasn't on and I typed "30" and pressed the numlock enter key > <.
Anyway.. the bots will always be recognized as bots to me, I really don't care what level they ever achieve as I see them as mops.
Just keep playing, I've been playing for 3 years and somehow I made it to 60+... lol. I do play a LOT though. I forgot what else I was going to say, I keep getting interrupted...
Goodluck!

Actually Firebug, Back in
Actually Firebug,
Back in those days it took much longer then 13 hours to get your 13% back because there was no TOI, everyone shared FV which meant that finding a mop was sometimes a challenge. Most people leveled to 50 in DV or FV with a few exceptions who used IT (6&7th floors) because the ghosts and deaths used to give more exp then they do now. When Forgotten Island came around it did open up the possibilites but back in those days the only 50+ NB elf I knew was Bomelith who was a solo hunter anyway and in fact I do remember the first day of FI... People were yelling all over global that they were tired of dying there and wanted someone to come save them from the island. That day EBO (my elf's pledge) walked at least 20 people off the island who had had enough and couldn't do it themselves.
I think you remember the old days with slightly more rose colored glasses then the actuality of it.
