The LoA specific magic changes to the below spells have been reverted in order to make the spells more effective (note that the changes to alignment penalties were preserved). The resulting changes look like this:
- Curse: Poison; decreased duration, increased effectiveness
- Slow; increased effectiveness
- Curse: Paralyze; increased effectiveness
- Mana Drain; increased effectiveness
- Darkness; increased effectiveness
- Cancel Magic; increased effectiveness
- Weakness; reduced hit penalty, reduced damage penalty, increased effectiveness
- Disease; increased effectiveness
- Silence; reduced duration to 16 seconds, increased effectiveness
- Fog of Sleeping; increased effectiveness
- Decay Potion; increased duration, increased effectiveness
- Meteor Strike; increased damage

Multiple spells that land on a single target within a short duration of time will yield diminishing returns. This affects PvP only.
Spell effects that could previously have their durations stacked will no longer do so. This includes, but may not be limited to:

Added a new NPC, “Bag Girl”
Located near potion vendors or storage dwarves in key towns, this NPC offers the service of bagging up items that buff your character. The advantage to this includes a 70% reduction in weight as well as insurance that those items will not be dropped on death. She will bag 6 at a time, which can be retrieved later by double clicking the bag in your inventory.

Fair or not, it is a
Fair or not, it is a reasonable way to control the flow of these items into the economy. To both limit how many of the awesome fiery lizards there are (combined with the fact that you have to brave Valakas to even tame one) and how many of the awesome new TS's can be crafted.
And the quest is repeatable.. (And if I am not mistaken, you can stay in there for a long long time with only one Steward Scroll, if done right.) So it can be farmed.

People seem to want to have it both ways. They want to complain about the LoA ruleset, but at the same time they complain when something returns to mirroring how it is in Korea.
They want the "custom" game, but only if they are in charge of the customizations.
I admittedly wasn't happy about the initial mage changes earlier, but I think the fact that it was later revealed (or understood) that the curse spells had been nerfed to offset the increased damage on the LoA ruleset made my concern over further nerfs without those being restored justified.
I have not tested this yet, but it seems to me like given all the changes the magic system at least should be fine.
Now how over-powered the tshirt will be remains to be seen; but my initial line of thinking is that it will balance the knight vs. dark elf issues and all will be well.

theres really nothing wrong with the game. i wasn't for loa, i hate loa... but i lived with it. now a easy fix for "overpowering mages" only 1 destroy is allowed to connect, easy fix. and thats how korea is. I have never heard of this lesser damage per hit with magic on korean servers. and yes, i loved our custom game. it was unique, the best pvp any game can offer. but now... my royal is a walking god. only way ill die now is if I d/c or run out of tele scrolls. and now, i can't destroy knights left and right... seriously.
but as far as putting the game back together, there was nothing wrong with it except hell, bots, and destroys connecting...

it just seemed strange to me that they would cap mage dmg when they don't limit knight or elf dmg. as a mage i wouldnt want 5 elfs or 5 knights jumping me with full dmg... why would it be different just cuz its mages tackling someone.
admittedly, i have been gone for awhile and i dont seige much, and i dont know alot of the dmg the new spells do, but it struck me as being twisted somehow.
i guess if i ever do seige or pvp again i'll just suck it up and deal... but these changes strike me as basically wrong.

I have to say, I absolutely
I have to say, I absolutely love this update, this is something lineage has needed for a very very long time, whether you guys see it or not, then that is your loss, I was actually very suprised to see ppl who do PvP a lot, NOT like this update. The stacking stuff is a tad on the annoying side, but I (I am sure pretty much everyone else aswell) will eventually get over it, it really is not a big deal.
Now on to the main portion of this update... the magic, and almost everyones poorly thought out reasons why they think its BAD for the game... one thing I wish to clarify, this magic reducing system is what the korean servers use, this 'single connect destroy rule' thing almost everyone talks about does not exist, its just a phrase that seems to of become a norm because of bad translating and all of the events which flooded US servers with destroy, which in turn made far far too many destroy spell complaints.
This magic system is something lineage needs, a lot, for the longest time now, more and more and more mages have become full int, have gotten better spells (Thanks halloween/boss events!) and now, mana regen through the roof. Magic resistence in lineage has NEVER changed, all it has done for attack spells is reduce the damage by half if you have 100% mr, 200% will do nothing for damage besides make spells that have a chance of fails, to either fail 95% of the time or more.
Over the years with all the mages reaching full int, it has become a major problem (for PvPing of course) their damage output has reached a point where it was too much for what MR was able to offer in the defence department VS magic attacks, (for those of you who cant see this, I'm sorry, but its true and you know it) lineage has not kept up with the 'evolution' of mages (actually, not true, US SERVERS have not kept up is more like it) this magic system is something we should of had long ago, but we did not because of our LOA rules. This system ruins nothing at all, it will make PvP in lineage fun again, it might even make sieges pick up again, now that would be awesome.
Instead of everyone being upset, or saying the things they have (which in my opinion a lot of the said material was poorly said and/or thought out) ppl should try to look at the big picture. I'll try to give some of my points now, if you think I am full of it, oh well, what can I do, you have your own thoughts about this stuff.
I play a knight, on AS and some other items I am around 1100 HP (pretty good if you ask me, I'd say probably more HP than 90% of what most US players have) I don't use any HP items besides RKset and the new tshirt. I am also in a "full" PvP pledge. Before we got this update the things I died to were nukes from mages and stun from knights (only once ever from stun though) never to Para/Bind, overwhelmed from Melees/elfs, just nukes, plain and simple, nukes from mages. I'll also tell you this, even with my 1100 HP, all of the deaths that I had were instant, I didn't even see it coming, everytime it was just sooo fast that I kid you not, I am full HP 1 minute, and dead on the ground the next, litterally in the blink of an eye.
Now, if people honestly think this is fun to die so easy and make lvl 70+ characters seem like they're still lvl 1 when up against 5-10full int mages, there is really something wrong. This is not WoW people, this is not like the 50 other online games out there where dying doesn't really mean anything at all. People work hard, really hard to make strong characters and as I see it, PvP should be fun, not demoralizing, especially for players that got to lvl 65+ 70+ 75+ where their exp. is doubled at each of those levels. A 2 hour long fight (or siege for that matter) is much MUCH more fun even if noone dies than a short 5 minute skirmish where 5-10 ppl die to a group of 10 overpowered full int mages anyday (at which point most of the ppl also just log off after cause they're feeling down, I see it happen everytime, so dont argue it, haha).
Just one last point, I know I made this post very long, sorry for that, but the YouTube video that was posted a few comments up, I am sorry, but I dont see what that video proves at all, even before this magic update, with 100% mr and I2H and not getting cancelled I could tank 4 mages just fine aswell (still hurt of course, but could be done) in real pvp you deal with way more than 4 mages in fights and in pk's or coi pks. The norm nowadays is always to nuke with 5-10 mages and have atleast 2 elfs erasing the hell out of you (bye bye to your only defence vs magic attacks which wasn't much anyways) and of course cancelled to get rid of immune, thats how real PvP is and happens on dep everyday. What I explained there still puts mages in the top catogory for DPS for attempting to kill ppl, your test was not very good (sorry -.- dont get mad at me).

I really hope NC can add something to seiges now to make it attractive for pledges to seige. Its one of the things i enjoy most about this game but they never happen anymore because it was just so easy to die from 6 or 7 destroy mages.
Also those 4 mages nuking people, your intentionally trying to do something which was changed so you couldnt do it that way. I know if proves that magic sucks for nuking someone, but that was the idea. Instead of 4 mages if you try with 1 knight stunning, 1 de hitting, 1 elf tripling and erasing and 1 mage casting erupt erupt destroy, im pretty sure that guy will die if the stun lasts even 1-2 seconds.

About your comment on seiges, don't forget in ep6 every single castle gets their own dungeon (with quests in some of them(I THINK, dont quote me on that one) and bosses) so I rather fracas not do any major updates/changes to lineage anymore untill we get and experience ep6, because ep6 has a lot of tweaks for erase and ebind too. Right now I think lineage is at a point where lineage is better than it has been for a long time, I really do, I think Fracas has done an amazing job actually, its a shame everyone cant see this.
People just need to make an effort to get use to the not stacking and to really try and adapt to this magic system which really will make PvP much more enjoyable in lineage (whether you see it or not).
Also, good point about that video, its actually kinda ironic that its attempting to show exactly what this update is trying to prevent/fix from happening.

Yes I also fully agree, even though my main character I would say is a mage with destroy.
Of course everyone, including myself, have enjoyed nuking other players by holding down the erupt key and tossing in a meteor or destroy. Then getting say a team of mages to do the same thing. Yes it's fun because winning = fun.
But it's like beating the last level on nintendo. Where's the YouTube video of a 1100hp with 100%MR dying in a flash? Everyone should see that that is just way too easy to kill people. And it only involves one of the 4 character classes in the game.
How come no one cares that cancel, slow, silence, para, weakness, etc. have increased effectiveness? Mages can still fight, just differently now. And now kills unify all the classes. No more only mages going chaotic. It could be the Knight/DE melee'ing, the Elf's triple shot, or the Mage timing the attack spell wisely.
Does the army use teamwork or do they all just spray bullets hoping for a kill shot? Yeah, dumping your mana on one character hoping to go chaotic is fun, but this update will promote teamwork which is much funner in the long run.

Yeah, it also makes getting that kill so much more meaningful. No one cared when someone dies because killing people is so easy. There's no bragging rights because it didnt take any skill to kill them and there is absolutely nothing they could do to avoid it (other then running hacks). But now it actually takes teamwork, skill, and knowledge of the game. You cant bot your char to 65 with full int and just destroy to kill someone. This will also help prevent people from starting to use hacks. If the same people are being killed over and over and over again, its only a matter of time before they start using an autovenz program. Since people wont be dying instantly, and there is the risk of getting banned, i think less people will be likely to use illegal programs.

Mages are not the top category for DPS, but I'm not sure they ever were. A dark elf with a +9 or even +8 kaiser weapon can almost always out-damage a mage. Three crits can add up to 300 to 450 damage event with no diminishing return. Two erupts and a destroy, even with erase magic, will now do maybe 200 if you max out on each.

The Problem with the arguement that full int mages should be nerfed to control their damage is flawed, because you work hard to level up to become a full int mage so that you can do real damage with your spells. Should we nerf full Str/Dex DEs and Knights because now they never miss and hurt so much? Should we nerf full Dex Elves because now they hurt alot? No, because they worked hard to achieve that status and should not be gelded because someone doesn't like that now that they are high level that THEY ACTUALLY HURT... YOU were STUPID to not realize that one day that these mages would hurt! It is the reality of investing your time to level upthat eventually your character will be UBER. That is why you work so hard, we all fricken know this so stop acting like it's a sudden god damn realization that now, and right now, needs to be fixed, because we've had high level mages on the server for quite awhile.
I worked really hard to finally get a high level mage, I invested the better part of 2 years of my free time to do it and I get this, what a great Reward NC! Perhaps next you'd like to remove all the spells from my Level 60 dex elf because now she's too powerful especially in comparison to all the other classes because of her triple arrow and erase and then you can remove the royal spells from my Princess so that i will have complete wasted my free time from the last 6 years.

No, because those builds have their downfalls built into the class. A full Str/Dex DE is going to have next to nothing for HP (and/or low MR. And if they have MR, then they have no AC). Same goes for a dex elf, low hp. And the full str/dex knight is going to have next to nothing for MR (and depending on starting stats, possibly low HP also), and you can take full advantage of him (as a mage) because of that.
A full int mage has... Next to nothing of a downfall. Some have low HP, others dont, but AS and Ith definitely counter that, by adding to that HP (AS) and then doubling it (Ith.) Sure other classes have that to, but they have to rely on you for it, you can just do it anytime you want it. Not to mention their full INT Lesser Heals heal better than a normal Gheal, for a fraction of the mp. Int Mages tank me with lheal, and stand there and make me look dumb swinging at them so much and doing nothing. Makes my knight into nothing more than an annoyance.

A con knight to reach full str/dex would have to add 22 stat points from 51 on. So thats what... level 72?
Lets just say only 23 of each instead of 25, putting them at level 68?
A con DE would reach it after adding 23 stats. Level 73?

So thats a lot of levels and stats to reach their 'uberness'. In order to eliminate their class downfalls, they have to get way up there in level.
We will do a con/wis mage (just cause they are better anyways, and take a little longer to level, and have less downfalls than other builds. True, they level slower in the beginning.) and see how fast they reach uberness...
16 int base... Add 9 int, so level 60? That takes half the time as level 68. And int mages are arguably one of the fastest levelers in the game. Even comparable to a non party healed DE in some cases.
A mage reaches UBER in half the time. Per your definition of uber being a Full STR/DEX tank, or full Int mage.
But this is all just nitpicking, which is what we are both doing at this point.

Here is my issue with what
Here is my issue with what you have stated. The most MR will be able to cut damage is by 50%. Tissot in doing tests the other day hit someone for 600dmg (as stated on lineage.com boards) If mages are using BW staff, wis pot and are full int, its believable that they can hit for 200-250+ damage on 100% MR. Now when speaking of triple shot, each individual arrow must hit them in order to do full damage. The most damage i have ever seen a triple shot do is around 115. Thats half the damage of a full int mages destroy on 100% MR, meanwhile its very hard to hit with all three arrows on any class other then mage. DE's have spells which they can use at fights which makes it hard to hit them with more then 1 arrow out of the 3, and also can get decent ac, knights with their new TS are able to get very high ac, not to mention that my knight friends have higher ER then i do, and way more HP. The only ones elfs will be able to hit really are mages, who also have I2H. You can easily take a triple or two and I2H and burn a couple potions to get the HP back and once I2H the elf will be hitting for less damage then a lesser heal heals for.
Anyways the point about elfs is that people can easily increase ac. Even if its 300mil for a +9 item, there are events like this past one which makes it affordable for most players. Triple arrows also has to hit through not just that ac, but also ER. Now that mages cant coi PK with 8 people, AC items become more attractive over MR ones, which also makes it harder for elfs.
Level 60 for an elf though...impressive...

That's true, but also consider the five second delay on destroy. How many triple shots can you get off in five seconds and how does that damage compare to destroy?
Also consider destroy costs 70 mp to cast. Triple shot costs 15.
If destroy does even 300 damage that's 4.25 damage per mana spent and 5.5 damage per second.
If triple shot does only 75 average per shot and fires four times in 5 seconds that's a total of 300 damage -- also 5.5 damage per second, but 5 damage per mana spent.

That lvl 60 dex elf has been 60 for about 1.5 years(yes before LOA rules on Ken). Had I continued with her she'd prolly be nipping at the heels of 70 about now. I leveled her to 60 about 2 weeks after Qwicksilver and he doesn't play nearly as often as I do and he's like 66 or 67 now? Instead I spent that time lvling my mage to 55 who has now been thoroughly nerfed with the nerf bludgeon("nerf stick" is just too friendly a term for how badly she's gotten the beat down) and now I'm trying to figure out if there is any way to transfer my experience from my mage to my princess so that maybe the last almost 2 years hadn't been completely wasted and I can have a fat lvl 55 princess with a nice little AC spell for a few days before Fracas nerfs the crap outta that.
How's that for impressive?

Sorry i didn't think we were having a mine is bigger then yours conversation, in that case my mage started with full con/wis, 14int and 10 char(the difference between 16base int to start and 14 is huge, I suggest you try it even with LOA rules [which are so mickey mouse] just once to see and you can see her current int by checking my Info on this site). My elf started with 17dex and 14 con, and my princess who is now 50 is full con. I wasn't in a total race to lvl, I did have fun along the way, being the biggest and the best is less important to me then being big and bad enough to do what I want which is why i level to begin with.
You are truly awesome though and I bow to your lvling superiority, we done with the measurements now? I don't have a penis so I'm gonna fall short anyway.

Good post Cainna, I just wanted to bring something up quickly, I am not sure how long you've played lineage, but many years back, even before DE's came out, there was already full int mages, full int never made a huge impact on the damage of spells, there was actually an update from korean rules which made mage spells themselves much stronger in respect to your INT/SP, I am sure long time players of lineage will remember the sudden power increase in CoC, erupt, call lightning etc. and how much they started to hurt.
Now with that in mind, you guys need to realize that we were never given anything else really from korean servers to help balance all of this stuff out (Thanks LOA/Captstrum /sarcasm off) all of you mages are just far far too use to how your class has been for years and years, thanks to us straying off the path for what NCK had planned.

That's not really the point in this instance.
The question isn't whether there is a way to be as effective as before (with the other spells buffed, clearly there is), the question at hand was whether or not it had an impact on damage per second, which clearly it does. Damage per cast does not have to take a hit if you time it right, but your damage per second is going to plummet whether you are spamming it or timing it.
Decay has no impact on damage per second. Cancel, unless they have immune on, has no impact on damage per second.

Mages are not the top category for DPS, but I'm not sure they ever were. A dark elf with a +9 or even +8 kaiser weapon can almost always out-damage a mage. Three crits can add up to 300 to 450 damage event with no diminishing return. Two erupts and a destroy, even with erase magic, will now do maybe 200 if you max out on each.
Actually Chryses, I do know what you mean, +8-9 Kaiser weapons do hurt, but you didn't really read my last part very well, you have to actually consider and take into account what is happening at every momment in the fight that I explained for how ppl even now will die. You say DE's have have a higher DPS, which is far from true when u take into account ths scenario I provided. To begin with, DEs are melee, they have to be right beside their target to even begin giving damage anyways, second, if their damage is too much, just run for a bit, and third, full blown 150 damage crits do not happen all the often, Their swing speed is also much slower then how fast mages can cast out spells.
So think about the scenario I provided again, mages magic is ranged (so doesnt matter if their target is running) they can cast from where ever they want, the elfs helping them erase... ranged again, so they also can be anywhere on the screen from the target to be killed, you can have way more than 8 mages attacking, unlike with only having 8 melees fit around a target, which wont happen anyways, smart ppl try to use a 1:1 spot if available, or just run if one is not. Just from the erase alone, some of the destroys still have a chance of landing for over 500-600dmg from decked out mages, even with the new system, its still possible, for the very first hit for sure.
So I would say my comment of mages being still the best for DPS even after this update is still true, but if you think I am full of it, thats ok too, thanks for reading it anyways.

The ranged distinction likely belongs with elfs now.

I bet that happened ya because of destroys mainly...im telling ya im aware destroy needed to be fixed, but why ALL freaking magics? then put the dam som to hit insainly so we can keep up nuking as melee too?
Or since when Do we mages have infinite mana to stand still on a fight long enough to go through such nerf w/o problem?? my main issue is why mess with ALL mage`s attacks, Im aware of destroy`s power so I woulda have taken a nerf on it...but all spells, pfffffft gl keeping your mates mages happy long enough buffing/healing/immuning ya on fights...cuz thats what will happen and all they will get tired of it soon or later.

This is the only drawback to agruements on these things, there really is too many ppl that talk about stuff they have no clue about, or simply put, dont spend any time at all to think about all of the possibilites. PeaceOut, you bring up the point about 4knights or 4 DEs, or 4 elfs also hurting, thats nice, but I am not sure how many times it needs to be repeated that for Melees you can use a 1:1 spot if there is one, or just run if you know you cannot win, are the melees gonna swing at you and MAKE you venz/die from 7 cells away like the mages? Nope. It has always been possible to just run from tons of Melees and decide what to do, if you die to only melees, you died b/c you were being stupid, everyone knows that. For mages, its either venz(If you were fast/lucky enough) or to die instantly.
Elfs, yes elfs have range, but this fully comes down to the fact that you can protect vs elfs WAY more than magic, again, I've already said this, the MOST you will ever get out of MR is half reduction in attack magics(means nothing with all of the chain-erase being cast these days) you could have 100% mr, or 10000% mr, always the same, only half reduced. For elfs arrows, you can protect more and more if your ac is higher, same with ER, that always keeps going up as you lvl, there is a huge difference. Also about you saying that ONLY destroy is the problem... lol thats pretty funny, but the fact that you play a full int mage I would think that by now you would know that even erupt, one of the oldest spells in lineage can do over 100dmg on full int aswell, same with call lightning, icelance, you name it, i've seen these spells do over 100 dmg many times on decked out mages (10 mages x10 100dmg spells? yes)
Plus, like I said in my first post, this magic system is what korean servers use, there is no such thing as 'single destroy connect' rule, or call it whatever makes you feel better. The point is, its destroy that gets the spotlight for attention because US servers were kind enough to flood us with it as if its the last day before world war 3.

Although I´m a peace hunter I do not take shit from nobody FOR NO REASONS. I dont know if ya haven´t noticed that some ppl believe they are Lin`s godness so they can actually hit everybody, whenever/wherever they want to just becuz YES, just because they are high lvls, or have a huge fighting pledge who will back them up no mattering nothing...in some cases they may have both (now since ya play DEP also, for a rl testimony of this, you can go ask Tissot about me). Dude I must to say you really hit the personal "proud achievement" I have with my char with this comment lol. Seriously you dont know me, you may see me around on the server but ya really dunno all the effort I put on my char BY MYSELF with ZERO help for this past couple of years...making my mage con/wiss going through lvl49 to lvl54 with the old DEP rules adding to wiss againist all advices of going Int first...even with that trashy turn undead rate that u said...so seriously ya dun have idea so dun even lets start on it cuz trust me, I know how hard to lvl a mage can be...and ya are switching topics here (cuz then I would have to start arguin about Capt MAKING US get that stupid LOA rules when the most of DEP population SAID NO).

You're a mage, yes, a MAGE, now what does a mage have with them if they run into an elf that melees dont have? Hmm, you can immune yourself whenever you want? So even if you have ONLY -50 AC you're actually -100AC (better actually, nothing random about immune, always 50% reduction from everything, pure ac is just random rolls) or double HP, or half dmg of everything, look at it anyway you wish, that "-100" is already more AC than me, or you can just AB if the damage is too much, hell you can even silence the elf so they can't triple arrow, even som them to steal their MP, I do also have a lvl 60+ full int mage with all spells, so don't tell me you cant do the things I've just stated, even after this event, more than possible.
I hope the next post you make I wont have to ask you to think about the things you're saying again, its getting a little boring and I almost feel like I am talking to someone whos never even played lineage before. Also, you're just making me lose braincells, cause the fact that you actually think other stuff, like elfs, DEs, knights or whatever was a problem comparable to the unbalance of magic, well... if that is true, where was all the coi-detect-triple arrow insta-kills on ppl? Where was all of the 8DEs or 8Knights around someone coi-pk insta-kills? Look at it this way, knight class sucks in many ways, but also don't suck in many others, in massive fights they are very important, knights alone very very rarely get anything accomplished or killed noone more than 98% of the time when solo, mages though, complete reverse, if you can't handle the fact that now, its more teamplay fighting with all FOUR of the classes, instead of mages on their own, solo or with other mages, killing everyone on site, then I am not sure what else to say besides... go play a 1 player xbox game? Yes, yes, you work very hard, I remember you having light hack on your screen shots when posting on your blog, I guess to help you find bosses better, since it was SO hard to find bosses with out a hack, and if there is one hack used there would be no suprise to me if you did other stuff.
