The Halloween event for 2007 is coming and it'll be hitting the Public Test Server (PTS) this weekend, starting Friday, October 19 and ending on Monday, October 22.
The "Weekend of Chaos" Event on the PTS will have the following changes:
- Money is now worthless and should be discarded. You won't need it!
- Powerful weapons are now plentiful but will disappear when you log out.
- Items cannot be stored or retrieved through storage dwarves.
- All of the Innkeepers have fled for safety.
On Monday, the Wizard of the Ivory Tower will be ready to reverse the chaotic changes, but anything that took place during the "Weekend of Chaos" will be reversed as well. In other words, what happens over the weekend is not permanent.

This has to be the stupidest event I've ever seen, if nothing stays then what the hell is the point of playing. I pay to advance in this game, not for stupid roll backs, make the event WORTH something other than wasted time. Wow I'm surprised and infuriated that this is actually the event that got so much hype. Screw this.
By the way FRACAS, since there is no hope of changing this event, what about all the newbs with low level characters, like myself, so we shouldn't log on for the weekend since we wont be able to play with all the random pking? you better have made level up orcs for this event, otherwise it's a waste for us newbs.

After calming myself down, I realized that this event could be fun, it gives people a break from grinding, even if they don't want a break, well they have to take one now, My main concern is how this even can be biased as pretty much everyone who isn't in the main BP's on the servers will end up dying. Low level players and even mid level players have no chance when there's a pack of level 55/60/65/70+ chasing them. The only hope to fix this is if they make some way to level up fast, either an npc that grants exp, or level up orcs that spawn randomly BUT MASSIVELY around aden. Thats really the only hope I have to make this even worth it, As I do only have a level 43 dark elf right now, I can't really see this event being fun unless I can level up to 65 (atleast) with ease. It all gets reverted in the end..so why not?

Basically it's a free pass to play a weekend however you want to play knowing that it will rollback on Monday. On top of that apparently there will be some craziness in Aden that includes a change to play with absurdly strong weapons and armors.
I'll wait until I hear the details of what is going to happen before I pass final judgement, but I think there is some potential here.

Stop making new posts and edit your first to add content, This event CAN be fun as there will be crazy items, this means you'll be able to hunt places (even if you gain nothing, you gain experience in hunting the area (not the % kind of exp))
Fracas you should ADD teleport npc's to aden, that teleport everywhere...every cave floor, every tower floor, every island, SoE, lastavard, stuff like that to make the weekend more enjoyable, atleast it will save us time having to find means to get up to these floors, (I don't think anyone has been to 3rd floor Temple of Shadows yet, would be FUN)
*EDIT* especially if you can't access storage during this event, ToI scrolls would need to be hunted for everyone that doesn't have a charm.

The are special Orcs that you might have also seen referred to as Test Varments. Basically, each one gives the equivalent of one full level's worth of experience at level 49.
I think it would be fun to see these so that people who are lower level can catch up to the higher levels and make this a true even playing field killing spree, but I can see where it would be hard to implement. I think a better answer is probably just unlocking all the pollys. It still leaves the higher level characters with a big advantage, but it narrows it a bit.

Itll be broken bots all over... ALLLL OVERRRRRR EVERYWHERE. Making it soooooo easy for monitors to just run around slapping them with the ban stick one after the other after the other... Come monday when we can return to normal... Only a few of the smarter bots will be left... (If NC does it right...)
Either way... This event sounds like it could be fun... At least I dont have to worry about leaving resistance to take advantage of the event, since I will be back in resistance after the rollback.
I just better get the chance to blow up ALLLLLLL my gear before the rollback...
I kind of wish though that those that didnt want to participate could just go on with normal game play and make exp instead =/

Those that know its an event
Those that know its an event wont be on... But so many are out of the loop... they are just farmers... They dont watch the boards... they turn the computers on and walk away and the bot does the rest (even the opening lineage and logging in)
For the first day, there will be broken bots all over the storage dwarfs... Because they cant get in to get the items they need to begin their botting for the day...
Then the next day when they realize they cant or have no need to bot for that day... They will either be turned off for the rest of the weekend, or they will be played by someone for the rest of the weekend... In which case you get the chance to not only kill a bot, but kill a bot being played by the owner (which is infinitely more fun) and it wont be hard because they have no skills at using their botted characters...

My thoughts I think many will have fun in this even if they are a level 45 charters. If all changes are going to be reverted I can see Items liek +127 Death Blades or a DE claw that cast Destroy or something being used in this event. Its sounds more like and event is just go crazy have fun kill players die your self get up and die once more. I am sure there much more to this even other then what roo said (if what he said is true). I am Very happy that NCA will do an all out event and revert it back. Its basically well this is what normal happens all year long so lets take the liver servers and mess with them like if they where test servers.
Massively storage item that will never be in game for real. Bosses full ST spawning all over killing players. As Northwind said a NPC to go to TOS 2nd and 3rd floor would be cool or even 81+ toi.
Anyone that played Dep when we got LOA and was on test server will love this event. The things that you can do and the fun you have.
Level up Orcs I am for just why not? I like to level 80 DE with Max wisdom (that is the 1st thing I going to add haha). I hope Hell is there to slow down ther Great killers of the time just for a switch. Maybe a NPC to tele port you to Hell too!

Ok, I'll start by saying that I understand those who feel this is the worst event ever. It's definitely unlike anything we've done before. In a world where everything is about forward progress, an event like this could be very jarring and unwelcome to many people. I do believe there is some fun to be had here though, perhaps even for those who expect to hate it. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it'll bomb. We'll see.
Our recent event season was lucrative in many ways. Starting with the Secret Islands, which dropped incredible gear, and ending with a week long 2xp event. After the season was over though it was obvious that people were exhausted. This was confirmed even further during face to face talks with players at the meet and greet. My conclusion was that the next event would be different. I did not want to make you guys feel like you had to chain yourself to your desk for a week in order to get anything out of yet another event. Although some may feel it was worth it in the end, it's just not something I wanted to do to y'all again so soon.
So we went ahead and did a running dive-roll in the complete opposite direction. :)
Some Details
So yeah, it should be interesting. Will you kill each other? Will you hunt bots? Will you try to stay lawful through all of this? Will you avoid it all together? It's up to you.

Fracas I'm really hoping you add some means of speed leveling to this event, it's just to biased with all the high level people that will just camp and kill low levels, If you wanted this event to be fun for all I'd find a way to put in level up orcs or risk having all of the low level population not even logging in for the weekend.

I'd suggest adding the exp of the "Testing Varmits" to that of the Imp npc's that will make you chaotic.

First the good. This sounds like a fun change of pace for me. I enjoy chaos. Especially when I know there is no long-term repercussions for me. As a casual gamer, sacrificing three days is not a big deal for me. It's a weekend, and I will maybe get 5% on an average weekend. I'll give that up for the chance to have fun.
There is some bad ... including earlier points that it benefits high levels a LOT more than low levels and the bow is not good enough (remember the 40/40 means nothing). A +10 bow is equal to a +7 yumi. If you can enchant them, that will help, but it also makes the sword that much more superior to the bow. The bow should be a higher damage and/or have a +10 to hit in addition to the damage (especially for PvP).
I'll know more when I get a chance to test it, but again I say there is potential here.

I understand why you are upset, but I don't think the bad is bad as you are thinking it will be and the good is a whole lot better.
It's three days of lost time. You seem to be a fellow casual gamer. I can make maybe 5% in a weekend and maybe 1 mil in adena on average. We won't be able to get that (or any other permanent benefit) out of this event, but there is more to the game than just grinding out experience and drops. We also play to have fun.
So there is still the chance to have fun. And adding to that chance to have fun is the fact they are going to give you a bow that is +60!! You will be able to kill things loads faster than you kill now. You will be able to kill things you could never dream of killing before. It could be loads of fun.
Now I'm certainly not being critical of you if that's not what you are in this for. I know the name of game is leveling up. But it's a chance to take three days off from the grind, be handed some uber gear and allowed to just have fun doing whatever you want to do in the game.

I agree. A big part of this game is the grind, but I hope we deal with the grind because the game is fun. Otherwise, I don't know why anyone would go through it.
Now, for three days, the grind is gone. Everything has been stripped away except for the fun. And to add to the fun we get uber weapons. Weapons we could never have dreamed of having before. Weapons that will allow us to do things we never could have done before.
I'm curious to see how it plays out on test.
But for now, I'm becoming increasingly excited about the prospects of this.

For alot of ppl the fun comes from accomplishment. Whether that be that 2% you grinded out or the 500k you made that day, or the ppl you killed, or even bosses you found. Alot of ppl feel there will be no sense of accomplishment and therefore no fun.

Does the rollback include... If I delete a character to remake for something else (especially if testing varmits are there to level us up with..) will my deleted character be back after the rollback? And if so... can you turn off the one week delay to delete a character so I can spend time playing the character instead of delvling it so I can delete/remake it... Wis knight here I come!

The way backups work (Roll back as you call it) They set a time for the back up server to save all data(for a game it might happen ever 15 30 or every hour.)
But they back up as it is lets say Friday at 1200. So at that point anything you do after 1200 will not be saved and lost once they restore. So you can delet allc hars Blow all items and devel them all back to level 10. Once they Rollback everything from that Friday at 1200 will be brought back. This is level items location. you name it and its back.

I suspect, however, that some of the people who initially read this and think they hate it will think about it and realize it might actually be more fun than they thought.

Everyone seems to think NC likes bots, because of the profit, and thats why they are slower to ban them... (I was one of those people...)
NC, however, WISHES that was the case (that they make money from bots, before banning them....) but its not..
Most of the bots activate with stolen/fraudulent credit cards... NC makes nothing in most cases, and actually LOSES money from bots.
They are just as much against bots as every single one of us is against bots. Despite how sometimes it really seems otherwise.

Sorry, Sk8, but whoever told you that, I don't believe that for a minute. I have personally seen bots last 6 months...even a year on Ken. And trust me, if their credit card bounced, they would have been booted off the game immediately (far faster in fact, than they are for botting). Don't pay your account by the due date some time and see how long you keep playing. ;-)

As "obvious" as many bots are to us, they still have to be able to prove that it is a bot and not somebody who just has a lot of free time and very repetitive habits. Basically if every time they message the bot it passes the turing test, they are taking a legal and moral risk by banning it.
Considering their staffing levels at the moment and the fact that they all have responsibilities other than hunting bots, I think they've been doing a reasonable job. Not perfect, but not the opposite either.

There are the bots that just make as much money as possible to sell to legitimate players and there are bots that are being leveled up so either the character can be sold or the person botting it can take over.
The ones just out to make money don't really care if they get booted after a couple of months if their credit card doesn't come back as valid or if the person who's identity they stole figures it out. They have done months of hunting and made a lot of money for the owner to now sell on for real cash on third-party websites.
The ones you are seeing are the ones that are there to level. Those bots would have to be more careful about how they pay for their accounts because it defeats the purpose if the account gets banned for nonpayment.

I don't hate it, but I'm underwhelmed. Some ppl will love it. I'm happy for them. For me, I'm glad I'm going to be gone most of that weekend anyway.
Alas, I had been looking forward to this because I had to miss the drop event earlier in the year because of a surgery, so I didn't get a bunch of cool stuff and money that most everyone else seemed to have gotten, so, ya... I'm disappointed.
I won't not play it, but I can't say I'm looking forward to it either. For those who want to whine and gripe, get a grip. Fracas is trying something new. For that, he gets kudos in my book even if it's not something that thrills me. If you want to go find another game, don't let the door hit you on the hind end on the way out. (My guess is you'll be back.)

whats so great about pking someone when they won't LOSE A THING from it? this event is a waste of people's time, yet another disappointment from fracas... again, and sorry, i like lvling/grinding/pvp where it means something. why the hell didn't he make a spare server or make test server the event only for people that want to take part in this? the guy is a complete moron and has done no good things for this game, he has made captsturm or whatever look like a saint after he destroyed this game...... but oh well, i'm just one of the many people that want our old game back...

At first when i read the posting on this I was sorta taken aback as to what it says was gona happen, but as long as after the weekend is over, EVERYTHING is RESTORED in OUR STORAGES, I will be ALOT calmer...
Anywho,
Personally i dont like to p/k anyone, unless there is NO CHOICE in the matter.
So as to this event being created to just be able to p/k ppl, its not my type of an event to be a part of, but if this event is being created so that:
1. we get to experience places we normally havent had the opportunity to hunt at, then thats a nice gesture to add in.
2. Give us the opportunity to kill botters, without losing law (permanately) and being griped at for doing so, that could prove a plus to those that like p/king bots.
3. Giving us weapons we can only dream about, but never have based on variables in game, etc. to kill mops that we also never had the opportunity to do so with, That CAN prove very helpful, to those of us that would just once like to end a dragon or two.
4. Like SK8 said, once the bots cant do anything in the game, they will not log in on those days of the event....so we get 3 days of BOTT-LESS interference.
Well I might be here for this event just to see if its worth taking part in it, otherwise I'll take a 3 day break, ha.
