Hi all,
I wonder if there was an unannounced update to the weapon enchanment procedure?
Some weeks ago I tried to make some +9 weapons, I started with 12 +7 weaps and to my surpirse not a single one went +8 - well that can happen, maybe just a bad row...
Yesterday I was going to improve my barely used +7 Damacus Sword, I bought a couple of dais and 10 Damas. Dai'ed all of them to +6 then ndai'ed one by one - and ended with 7 +7 Damas. Not bad, uh? However, in the try to improve them further - not a single one went +8.
Has NC changed the original enchantment routine? Does the chance to overdai a weapon decrease with each enchantment now (e.g. +6->+7 = 33%, +7->+8 = 25%, +8->+9 = 20%, etc.), like it is for armors?
Anyone else noticed this? Or was it just bad luck?

I was trying to make a +8
I was trying to make a +8 SLS. Took 6 +0 SLS's, made 4 +7 (using the b-dai method at +5) the other two blew using normal n-dais. Of the 4 +7's they all blew going for +8 with n-dais. Of the last 5 weapons before the SLS's not one went when going for +8 (+7 Yumi, X-bow, Blessed X-bow, Yumi, and n-Kat); however, all but two of the b-dais I used went +2. I did notice this and strike it up to poor luck on my part, but I am not so certain now.
I also just realized how much I spent trying to get a +8 weapon when I could have made the +7's, sold them, and bought a +8-9 weapon...*goes into a corner and cries*
I suspect it was slightly
I suspect it was slightly bad luck in terms of your overall success, but really bad luck in terms of where you luck came. Make sense? I'll try to explain the way I see it.
You tried to over enchant, in total, 29 weapons -- 12 +8s on the first round, 10 +6 on the second round, and 7 +7 on the third round.
Of those 29 weapons if the success rate is published and commonly accepted 1/3, you should have been successful a total of 9 to 10 times across all the enchanting you did.
You were successful slightly less than that with 7 of your +6 weapons going +7.
So overall if the average had held exactly right you would have ended up 2 to 3 more weapons going (be it 6 to 7 or 7 to 8) with all the weapons you do. But as your tremendous success going from 6 to 7 demonstrates, averages seldom hold.
In short: Your luck was slightly worse than it should have been overall, but your luck was really bad in that ALL you good luck fell on the +6 weapons and none of it on the +7 weapons.
Hehe, your post made me
Hehe, your post made me smile :)
Exactly, that is the point, I was extremly lucky on +6 -> +7 and extremly unlucky on +7 -> +8 - well, that can happen with the 33% chance but its very unlikely.
That's why I ask if there was a secret update regarding the chances in overdai'ing weapons.
I think it was just all your
I think it was just all your luck was "used up" on the +6 weapons.
When you flip a coin, the chance is always 50% that it will and heads and 50% that it will land tails.
That does not prevent, in any given sample, the chance that you could roll 2, 3, 5, 10 or even more straight heads.
I have always had awful luck with enchanting items. It took me something like 17 bdais and corresponding cdais to make 8 +7 yumis only to see each of them blow up trying to make my first +8.
I used to have a friend in the game who, every time I tried to over enchant something and it blow up, he would try to over enchant something ... and it would almost always go.
Chance is just funny like that.
Of course, only NC can really know if there is more to it than luck ... and I suspect that often times they don't even know how all the game mechanics work.

He went through a total of 19 +7 weapons and not one went +8. He had a total of 22 weapons (12 already +7 and 10 +0 Dama's).
If this has happened (no
If this has happened (no idea if there was such a thing or you just have really bad luck lately) it might be in preparation for the new mage spell and the safety scrolls for weapons coming in ep6-U.
Possible, the new
Possible, the new enchantment scrolls comming with EP6 are currently 50:50 either +1 or -1, no chance to blow up your weapon with those scrolls...Neat uh?

It's totally random, but I find that when you start out with mass amount, it never goes well. For example, when I tried to make a +7 ts by enchanting about 20 ts, not one went +6. However, when I enchanted a +5 on my alt for fun, it went +6. :s

Just for my record, how you
Just for my record, how you did it? One by one until blew up or all +6 then to +7 then the remaining to +8, etc.
correction..those were mail
correction..those were mail breakers not damas -_-
Its all just luck of the
Its all just luck of the draw.
I attempted to make a +9dama over the course of about 6months, randomly blowing when I felt like it...
I blew over 80 damas... Made over 15 +8's. Never made one +9.
Blew a handful of rapiers the other day and ended up with 1 +9 and 1 +8 out of 3 +7's. Odds are, I should have ended up with 1 +8 and no +9s, but I got 2 +8s and 1 +9.
You win some, you lose some. In my case, I lost a lot, considering I burned well over 20mil to 'make' a 10mil +9dama... Never made the dama, ended up buying it, putting me out 30mil for a 10mil weapon.
Got Blog?
I had bad luck last week
I had bad luck last week with armor as well... Had 6 +4 tshirts all blew and then figuring okay bad luck out of the way tried 3 items that were +5 and they all blew. Then blew a +6 item and and gave up.. So last week was bust..
After I read all those
After I read all those posts, I grabbed 3 +7 Damas and gave it another try....
1st puffed, 2nd went +8, 3rd left untouched.
I'm to chicken now to try for +9 after I blew up weaps for around 100mil x.x
the best way for me is to do
the best way for me is to do all..whichever that went..keep..then plus all +7s..collect all the +8s...then plus all +8s...hopefully at least some go +9 :)
however if u have money..use
however if u have money..use bdais to make +5 to 7..best way..cus i think its hard goin +6 to +7..ull blow prob half of ur items if not use bdais at +5..
Bdais are only really worth
Bdais are only really worth it when an item is very rare or very expensive IMO. I wouldnt use bdais on weps like damas mailbreakers nkats SLS etc. but thats just me =p

Regarding when to use
Regarding when to use bdai/bzel, I just use math >.<
(Price for +6 weapon)+(Price for +7 weapon)-2*(price for +5)-2*BDAI. If positive enough, I use bdai. If not positive enough, I assume my luck will be crap and do something else (like buy the finished goods instead).

I like big bucks and I can not lie, you other brothers can't deny, that when a char walks in with an itty bitty taste, and a round purse in your face, you get sprung..

There are no tricks or tips. Its all luck, just playing the odds.
Anyone telling you otherwise is just being superstitious.
Some people do it at Lawful temple, some do it at chao temple, some only enchant on one of their specific characters because they feel it is more lucky than their other characters... Some cast Remove curse on themselves over and over, some use remove curse scrolls over and over. Some people only enchant at specific locations, like the Aden Lighthouse.
My personal superstition is... My items seem to only go when I am sitting there thinking that they absolutely will not go...
I click enchant scroll, think to myself, bye bye Mr Item, and click it, and it goes... (It has to be real tho, I cant fake it... I have to really be thinking that its going to blow.) When I am enchanting thinking to myself, I am about to make (this item) its going to go up woot! It never does lol
but thats just superstition too... There is no way my thought process can alter the game =P
Got Blog?
Yes, I stand on my head, and
Yes, I stand on my head, and do an Irish jig before every attempt o.O.
Damn, next time I'll cast
Damn, next time I'll cast remove curse, use a remove curse scroll, eat a floating eye meat, give the beggar in giran 100a, stand on my head and do the Irish jig before - hope it helps :P
It really seems some weapons
It really seems some weapons (not any specific type just an individual weapon) will not accept and over dai no matter what. I had a bkat that I used cdai and bdai combo 3 times that would not go +7. Out of frustration i threw another bdai on it at +6 and it blew. How,s that for bad luck :)
For most cheap weapons if
For most cheap weapons if the bdai fails, I will just slap an ndai on it. Seems it will go most the time...but yes it just seems that certain items just never go! So i try to blow them up then!
