Which elf stat type is best?

As I have stated before I am currently playing a Dex elf. I know I do more damage than an equally equiped con or str elf, but at what cost? A lack of HP seems to be the biggest point (I know same goes for a str elf).

So, I ask my fellow elves this question, what is your preferred stat build for an elf and why?

As always, all comments are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Legolas4

Con with extra stat into Dex

Con with extra stat into Dex at creation.

Add Dex at 51+ till 18 base (at least) and then from there decide whether you want to switch your elf role to something more versatile. Either keep going dex to 25 for damage. Or start adding int to help with heals/nb/VT/etc... Or start adding str and go fire elf. Or even Wisdom for more MR and mp regen.

Elves got to be the most customizable class, imo.

My con elf is level 46: 18

My con elf is level 46:

18 Con
12 Str/Dex/Wis/Int

Base HP: 508 (528 with Vigor Set)
Base MP: 208 (218 with Vigor Set)
AC: -55
Elemental Line: Water

I will stick with water for the time being, but I may switch to earth or wind until I get to level 50.

Id do the same as Sk8. but

Id do the same as Sk8. but instead of dex u can always choose int for better heals as u lvl up

I will have to reactivate my

I will have to reactivate my con elf's account and see what stats I have for him. I believe I stupidly placed the last stat point in str, but I am not certain. If I did, should I keep him (he is level 46 and I have the gear for him)?

The one strength gives you

The one strength gives you one extra melee damage (with str spell, two with str spell and pg's) if you melee. And carry bonus.

The one Dex would have given you one extra damage with dex spell with bow, or two extra damage if combined with dex ammy+dex helm.

Its your preference.

The next question is what

The next question is what elemental type is best for leveling to level 50?

I know my con elf is water and my dex elf is wind, but should I change elemental line?

As elf you only need pots

coronis's picture

As elf you only need pots for bosses as long as you are able to keep your weight under 50%, regardless what line you choose. Greater Heal, VT and B2S will keep you healthy in most hunting areas.

In my experience INT is the stat that helps elven most, regardless what line you have choosen. 18 INT grands you MP discount, superb G-Heals, VT (try on TOI Iffy =) and makes your lvl 50 elf spells VERY effective (e.g. Counter Mirror, Wind Shackel, NB, etc.).

Tell that to Garundur ^_~. I burned through 80 c-clears and all my mana casting g-heal and VT and I died (in all four trips I burned through 90 a-oranges (venz'ed twice), 50 c-oranges (died), and 80 c-clears (died)) all against the same Garundur. I was determined to beat him solo, but that didn't work out the way I wanted ;). I believe MR and EMR is what hurt me, I had 86 MR and 70 EMR (two ROAs) and I was taking a whooping against him.

Garundur 4 and Legolas4 0

Don't get me wrong, I doubt my con elf would have lived either if he were the same level and equally equiped.

Um, Garundur is a boss. I

Um, Garundur is a boss. I never said you can solo a boss without pots. Elves suck at bosses, any elf, any line. My CON elf is not able to solo Dark Elder, I can't break his regen rate with bow. I can't even solo the smallest Grave Guard - as elf you have to life with that for a long time...

The only boss I can take

The only boss I can take solo is Ifrit, so I will stick with him and be support for others :). So, I may want to switch to earth or wind for my con elf if I decide to level him, then switch to water at 50?

I also found Elindaire the hard way, blew me away from around a corner >.<.

Best thing you can do is to

coronis's picture

Best thing you can do is to try it out. Except Wind Walk all lvl 3 and 4 spells are only 5-10k. Learn to use gheal (double tab it in your f-key set) without losing target.
As wind elf you'll love Wind Walk and the additional to hit and damage, regardless if you are CON or DEX. Use Elemental Fall Down on mops with higher HP.

As water elf you'll find NT very usefull. Later NB if your party needs an additional healer.

Also try the earth line, entangle and earth bind can be very helpfull in tricky situations.

Once you hit lvl 50, you'll get more spells that are INT based (NB, Counter Mirror, Wind Shackel, Area of Silence) and more INT helps you with the general magic spells.

I will stay water until I

I will stay water until I can either afford/justify Wind Walk or get it as a drop. Then I will try out both earth and wind. With NT I regen around 30~40 hp per tick, which helps when I have to B2S a lot to regen. I will still experiment some with the elemental lines, but I see myself going either fire or water at level 50+.

Go 18 wis.......infinate

Go 18 wis.......infinate tripling good mp regen good mr

i would rather put the first

Prominence's picture

i would rather put the first few stats into something that will help..

mp regen isnt an issue for elves when they have b2s..

and elves have the highest base mr to boot

..:: My Blog ::..

Combined with Silver Cloak

Combined with Silver Cloak which boosts both. And readily available Vigor Set, which again boosts both. Elves have even more unlimited mp than before.

Got Blog?

With Clear Mind, ALA, mana

With Clear Mind, ALA, mana pot, and Vigor set I get around 20 mp per tick regen.

When I throw on a b-comr and resist magic my MR is over 100%.

Most players initially

Most players initially laughed at my choice of adding to int as a melee elf, but I find, so far, it has added far more to my overall character than strength or any other stat would have.

However, when it comes to a new character fresh to the server, a wind dex elf with a couple pets is a strong starter character, both short term and long term. The only pitfalls to the build are a) versatility and b) durability. A dex elf is really only good at using bows and cannot take the kind of beating a con elf can. If you're fine with that though, then you'll be treated well.

Wait...What??

I am giving up on my dex elf

I am giving up on my dex elf for a bit and am going to level my con elf. So far, I am enjoying myself more than with my dex elf (died about three times in the last four hunts I have been on). I will see how I feel in the next month or so, but I am happier at the moment.

I may also take sometime out to level my knight, but we shall see.

I have nothing against dex elves, just I am getting sick of dying to mini-bosses in a few hits (Elindaire one-hit me and I had 86% MR at the time). At level 49, my dex elf had 408 HP with items and at level 47 my con elf has 518 HP without items and about the same AC on both characters (7 AC difference).

Fean: I too am considering going fire at level 50+ and was torn between adding dex, int, or str first. I was thinking add dex till I get to 18 then switch to int or str for melee. Granted I will have to stick around until I am at least level 57 for that to happen :P.
