Monsters Elemental Resistance Explained

coronis's picture

Hi all,

most of you probably know how to read the numbers shown under 'resistance' on LineageDB but there are still some people who don't know...

The numbers shown under elemental resistance on linagedb.com are percentage values of the damage that a spell of this element can cause. The word resistance is a bit confusing here.

Still confused? Let's take the Ice Queen for an example:

Ice Queen
Attribute: Water
Weakness: None

Fire resistance: 40 (fire spells do only 40% of the normal damage)
Water resistance: 0 (water spells do no damage at all)
Wind resistance: 100 (wind spells are 100% effective)
Earth resistance: 80 (earth spells do 80% of their normal damage)

Another example:
Ifrit
Attribute: Fire
Weakness: Water

Fire resistance: 5 (only 5% of fire spell based damage passing through)
Water resistance: 240 (water spell damage is up to 240%!)
Wind resistance: 80 (wind spells are 80% effective)
Earth resistance: 85 (earth spells do 85% of their normal damage)

Say your Cone Of Cold spell causes 100 dmg then it will hurt Ifrit for 240 dmg.

Hope it helps :)

Good luck!

Where did u get these info

Where did u get these info from?
Something doesnt add up here...
My elf has 16 INT with items. When hunting 27f, my VT does anywhere from 50 to 120 damage to Cerberus and Lesser Demons, but on Ifrits, I'd be happy if it ever do 50 damage. Its usually 15-40 damage per VT on Ifrit.
Cerberus has water risistance of 200
Lesser Demon has 250
Ifrit has 200
So my VT should do about the same damage to all these 3 monsters.

Don't forget the monsters

coronis's picture

Don't forget the monsters general magic resistance that may cut magic damage to 1/2. Cerberus has 25MR while Iffy has 40MR, so even if both are weak to water the damage you deal may vary. Different regen rates may another factor.

Those numbers are from LineageDB, provided March 2007 by Fracas , so they may subject to change without any notice and currently there is no legit way to verify the correctness of those numbers.

Natural Monster GMR is the

Natural Monster GMR is the reason ur VT isn't doing full damage.

I kinda figured that out

I kinda figured that out from a limited bit of testing. Though, I wish I knew how exactly Elemental Falldown fits into the calculations.

Wait...What??

So I guess nobody knows what

So I guess nobody knows what exactly Elemental Falldown does to elemental resists...

Wait...What??

Lowers the elemental

Lowers the elemental resistance of the target, equal to the line of the caster, by 50%.

So if it had 100% fire resist, and you falldown it, itll have 50% fire resist.

Elemental Resistances can go into the negatives, there by instead of being a resistance its actually a weakness. This can correspond to the values given at LinDB for elemental resistances.

Assumably, (I just made that word up,) 200fire on Lineagedb means that that monster has -100% fire resistance.

Got Blog?

So, if I hit something with

So, if I hit something with 200 fire rating with elemental falldown (being a fire elf) it would then have a 300 fire rating (50% of 200) or 250 fire rating?

Followed by, do multiple casts (of different lines) stack and do multiple casts of the same line stack?

I only ask because against drakes, being naturally fairly weak to fire despite the flaming breath attacks, Falldown doesn't appear to contribute much (not that I don't use it for good meansure most of the time anyways). Falldown (with burning weapon active) "should" increase my melee damage by roughly 2-3 damage per swing, but against a drake with their 1200 hp (FI ones) it should be reducing their...nevermind rough math for the win...that would only knock off about 2 swings or roughly 0.5 seconds on wafers. The random nature of Elemental Falldown precludes the ability to do any sort of real testing to be sure as to its effectiveness with and without elemental falldown.

God I hate the "Uhm...figure it out yourself" nature of Lineage's closed door systems.

Wait...What??

Im really not sure. That is

Im really not sure. That is just the face value description of the spell.
I barely play elf, so am not much of a falldown user.

I have noticed that falldown (water) on a lesser dragon, cuts the amount of CoC my rabbits have to do in almost half. And that I can not VT a LD to death solo with 1mp bar (no b2s during fight) unless I EF first.

Got Blog?

I noticed something similar

coronis's picture

I noticed something similar when I went fire for a few days. There seems to be some kind of limitation, either max damage limit or there is a limitation how far elemental resistance can fall down.

I noticed that on Dark Elves (Giran), with buffs I needed 11-12 hits to kill it, to my surprise I needed exactly the same number of hits when I additionally used Elemental Falldown on the Dark Elf - always!

You can test the effect of Elemental Fall Down in PvP to see if its a fixed value or percentage related.

yea i never knew that
