After facing Mr. Death five times yesterday, I watched my steps more carefully today and changed my 'Drake with more mops' tactic slighty. Now I shot the Drake first - just a single hit - so my summon starts to slap the Drake while I focus on the other mops. This off-loads some damage to my summon.
Mostly I hunt the doppel-area now, Basi and Drakes spawn there, with a regular excursion to the area where Ettins spawn. I really wonder what mop drop f-sword most? Basi, Drake or maybe Cocka? Damn, none of my pledge mates or Lin friends ever got a Forgotten Sword o.o
Well, I'll follow this route till level 52, which I hope to reach next weekend. I slowly begin to feel home on FI, although I don't know every rock there...yet :P
I got another Old Helm of Wind and a Ring of Magic Resistance, today.

Well, the one F-Sword we got was way back when EBO was big...We got it from a Cockatrice, dunnno if that helps or not.

I do not hunt FI that much, but went there again during the Christmas event to try out that extra AC. Got my first f-sword ever and that was from cockatrice in minotaur area.
I have usually been at mino area on those few times I've hunted there, so I do not know how the sword drops compared to example basilisks. But drakes do spawn there also and haven't gotten sword from them, as I mentioned that the sword I got now was my first one.
Soundwave used to get f-sword time to time from basilisks according to his blog when he still played, so maybe that's the monster that drops it most. But I cannot really say. Maybe here are some other people who hunt FI more than I do and would have more accurate information about what drops it best :)

I have horrible drop luck.
I have horrible drop luck. I have never gotten an ascroll solo there, only in a party of two. The best solo drop there is a Ring of Immunity to Magic. They USED to be a decent drop now they are only worth like 250k..

Well...I don't think anyone knows what the difference is in drop rate between basi and Cockatrice because the drop rate for either is pretty miniscule. Without an NC official coming out and giving us an exact number, no definite variance will ever be known.
That being said (and I'm in the mood to hunt there) Mino area does drop virtually everything FI has to offer (I say virtually because I don't think f-gsword drops there).

I have seen more drops of Fsword from Cockatrice than from Basi. I wouldnt be surprised if Basi actually had a higher drop rate for the sword, but Cockatrice are generally more plentiful. As the area to find them is smaller. Sometimes you can make 3-4rounds around the south fi area without seeing a basi (if he hides up in the trees, or along the beach, as only one spawns in the whole area). While in mino you can get a Cockatrice multiple times in one round, as the area is not hidden at all (no trees) and its easier to find him (also only one in the whole area) when he respawns.
If I was after a fsword I would do mino area.
If it is truly the only thing you are after, and you dont care about your exp moving slower... There are ways to make sure he respawns right next to you so you dont have to go look for him... (This holds true for both basi and cockatrice) Basically allowing you to farm the mop for the maximum amount of kills in a set time frame, thus giving you the maximum chance of getting the drop.

True, Basi and Drake can easily hide in the Doppel forrest but mino area is often crowded, sometimes I don't see any Drake or Cocka for 1-2 hours.

It probably has to do with where you stand on (or off) the screen where you find your first one. I doubt Sk8 will post the directions publicly, but I would not be surprised if he sends Coronis a PM about how to do it.
Coronis is a pretty informed
Coronis is a pretty informed Lin Player. He probably already knows how, or at least the basics.
But its just the same spawn control principles as any other location.
Although it would probably only work (in this instance) on Ken server. Other servers are too crowded in either of those areas for it to work properly.
Once you have played long enough you start to realize that spawn really isnt as random as it seems to be. You no longer have to go looking for where the spawn is. Because if hunted correctly, you can make sure the spawn is always exactly where you want it to be. A tactic that is crucial for mass killing on mage.
(No I am not claiming to have learned these tactics all on my own =P I actually picked up the basic theory from Bomelith --many will remember him, the legend-- a long time ago. Something a long the lines of, stay close to one spot and you will always have the spawn you need, you wont have to go look for it as you will notice its already there waiting for you.)
I used to watch him hunt left side FV and he would stand pretty much in a 10 cell square and have enough spawn to hunt endlessly in that one location all he wanted to.

Pitty he never showed many in EBO that tactic...At least not when I was there.
I do notice that even though I may one of a few on Heine 4 there always seems to be either a crust, turtle, or electro fish really close to where I am. I just never associated it with what you just said, but it does make perfect sense.
I may have to ask you to help me better understand this someday ;).

Once I get myself a +7 bow I may head over to FI from time to time. Maybe we can hunt together some :). I may not be level 50 yet, but I can still handle a couple FI mops at a time.
