Proc Rates on Items

Items like Maphr's Retribution or Orcish Bume Smash have a special attack. Is the frequency of these attacks occuring based on critical hits? Or do different weapons go off at different rates? Is there one that seems to go off more than others?

I had a Thor's hammer a few years ago. It seemed to go off quite a bit. But I haven't really compared it to other weapons of this type, as I've never had any.

Thoughts?

As a ret user, I cant figure

As a ret user, I cant figure out what causes it to proc.

Some monsters it proc's a ton on, some monsters it wont proc at all the entire time.

In PvP, at least in my tests, it vary rarely proc'd.

Sk8, I know you're a big Ret

Sk8, I know you're a big Ret lover. I saw in another post that you mentioned Ep6 may change the weapon. Any particular reason why that would be?

Also, other people's thoughts on what causes these to proc is greatly appreciated.

Two handed weapons are

Two handed weapons are getting revamped.

Two handed axes are getting slowed down to about 75% of what they currently are. (As far as I know, at least with Ret, they are swinging at full speed as a one handed weapon would.)

Two handed swords are getting sped up to about 75% of one handed... (currently they are at 50% of one handed)

And this applies whether

And this applies whether polied or unpolied?

Someone else mentioned something like this. It was about daggers being sped up. Has anyone run the numbers to see how this would all play out in terms of damage output? I'd be curious to know what weapons would come out on top, especially since I've been thinking of a Ret for my knight.

Polied. And daggers will be

Polied.

And daggers will be faster than one handed swords. Which is why items like Ori dagger are so popular these days.

I plussed up an Orcish Bume

I plussed up an Orcish Bume Smash and a Maphr's Pestilence to +7 to test their rates.

Pestilence Procs a ton.
Orcish almost never procs (though I love when it does).

I'm going to test Thor's and Maphr's Strife next to compare.

Hm anyone know anything

Hm anyone know anything about Eva's scorn? This may be off topic but +7eva's scorn would be 9/9 +7 +1 dmg so, 17dmg on small mops PLUS proc while +9rap would be 20dmg on small mops but wouldn't the eva's proc make up for the 3dmg short of rap? I don't understand why eva's scorn is not popular these days.

From what I heard (though

From what I heard (though havent tested personally) they nerfed the proc rate on evas scorn...
So yes, if it procs itll do more damage than the Rap... But it does not reliably Proc... You cant always count on it to Proc to make up for that lower damage roll compared to Rap...

Similar to Orc Bume and Dama...

I switched from +9dama to +9bume because the proc was a nice way to cut down the number of swings needed over the dama... But too many times I saw the proc never go off (specially when I needed it the most) to make up for the lower damage compared to a Dama... So I switched back to Dama because it was reliable. Sure, the bume could and sometimes did outperform the Dama, but it didnt always do it... And the 'Always' is what I look for in a weapon.

Btw...
What is 'Proc' short for or stand for?
I always just called it 'Crit' when the weapon went off... But so many use Proc these days.

Because it is way, way

Because it is way, way overpriced

Proc ... Programmed Random

Chryses's picture

Proc ... Programmed Random OCcurrence. It started in the programming community and somehow made the jump to the player community ... my guess is through use the term on boards by game staff.

Justifier's picture

i bought +7 eva scorn and made +7 thor hammer tried them both on my royal, the hammer wins out over scorn for me from what i could see the hammer procs more me so i sold scorn and bought more hammers out of 3 i made a +8 thor its my favourite until i get $ for to make a +9 or +10 anyway :)

The Orcish Bume Smash

The Orcish Bume Smash doesn't proc that much, but I'll tell you what, I love it when it does. The animation and the sound are lots of fun.

I used a Thor's Hammer for a while a few years ago, and yes, it went off a lot more than the Bume Smash, but the animation is nowhere near as fun.

My biggest problem with the Bume Smash is that I think it does fire damage, and since I am leveling mostly in Fire Valley, it's of little benefit when it goes off. That may help down the road in other places, but I'm not sure I'll still have it at that point.
