Damage Formula

1) When choosing between one weapon and another, what is the formula for calculating the damage done?
2) Does a +9 weapon mean it always hits for at least 9? And can go as far as 9 + the highest number of the base damage? Or does it just expand the damage range by 9 (i.e. a weapon with base damage of 10 can hit for 19)?
3) I saw a chart on LineageDB of how STR affects damage. Does DEX also affect melee damage?

Thanks!

a +9wep will always do 9

Prominence's picture

a +9wep will always do 9 dmge + what ever the range of wep is so if it is a +9 6/6 wep
then it will do Anywhere from 1~6 + 9 dmge for both small and large.
+9 will also give u extra 4 hit (enchant level / 2 and then round down for hit)

dex does not affect melee dmge, it only affects how often you can land a hit, the higher the dex, the higher chance you can land a hit.

1) Start with enchant. This

1)
Start with enchant. This is the base damage of the weapon. For this example we will use a +7Sword of Sk8.

Sword of Sk8
10/11
+2damage
+1hit
Mithril

So we start with the enchant, which is 7.
So we know the least it can do is 7 damage.
From there we take the damage bonus attached to the sword. In this case +2.
So 7 + 2 = 9 damage.
From here we take the 'roll damage' of the weapon.
Small monster is 10. So it can hit anywhere between 1 and 10. or 1-10 damage.
Add the calculated damage to the roll damage and it can roll anywhere from
(1+9) to (10+9) or 10-19 damage against small monsters. The same calculation for large monsters puts us as 11-20 damage roll for large monsters.
This leaves us with an average damage of 14.5/15.5 small/large.

Now we can factor in the undead bonus if applicable. (Only for undead monsters)
The undead bonus is another 'roll damage'. It adds an additional 1-20 roll.

We attach the 1-20 to our previously determined 10-19. Giving us 11-39 damage against small undeads. 12-40 damage against large undeads.

To calculate hit bonus is easy. Take the base, in this case +1. Add one for every two enchants, rounded down. 7/2 = 3.5 rounded down is 3.
Add the base +1, and we have +4hit.

2) I believe the above answers that, but let me know if unclear.

3) Dex does not directly affect damage in any way that I know of. (Doesnt mean it doesnt though.)
It adds to hit. Increases your chances of landing a hit. So if you swing 10 times for 10 damage each.., and miss 3 of those, you only did 70 damage. Adding more dex could mean you only miss 1 or none of those 10 swings. Increasing your damage to 90, or 100 for the same amount of swings.

Got Blog?

Sk8 That was so confusing

Sk8 That was so confusing lol. Proms answer was easier.

um, im really confused. Can

um, im really confused. Can anyone break this down for me?
Fire elf, lvl 50+ lets say, with

+9 rap (11/6)
Burning weapon (+3 to hit, +6 dmg)
Elemental fire (increases melee attack by 1.5 times)
Bless weapon (+3 dmg +6 to hit)

I will have 18 str, I believe if I get 19 str, i get +1 dmg correct?

What will be the dmg look like? I kinda tried to solve it but I wnna make sure I got the correct numbers. Thanks.

Enchant Damage= +9 Strength

Enchant Damage= +9
Strength Bonus at 18= +3
Burning Weapon= +6
Bless Weapon= +3
Base Damage= 11/6
Elemental Fire= 1.5 x

Start with the weapon:

It does (9+1) to (9+11)= 10 to 20 damage on small monsters= 15 avg damage

Add the bonuses from spells and strength (+12), which equals 27 average damage.

Multiply that by 1.5 (elemental fire) to get 40 damage per hit (average).

Then follow the same pattern for large monsters.

If you were fighting undead, you'd have an additional damage bonus of 1-20 to factor in.

ty muffled, when I did the

ty muffled, when I did the calculation, I got 39. So I guess I was in the right track hehe. Ty for clearing it up for me. =D

muffle, sorry to bother you

muffle, sorry to bother you again but can you break this down for me?

19 dex
bless weapon
+7 kxbow (4/3) +1 to hit +6 dmg
silver arrows (7/6)

...so ...13 damage (kxbow 6,

...so ...13 damage (kxbow 6, plus 7 for enchants)
with a 1-7 damage roll for silver

14-20 damage if your lvl 50 then..19-25
Now with a 1-20 damage roll for undead...

20-45....this is for small mops..
...I guess thats right....

bless weapon doesn't give

PyroAmos's picture

bless weapon doesn't give damage bonus for bows, only hit bonus.

your also leaving out level bonus. There is a hidden hit bonus attributed to level alone, and also a class specific hit/dmg bonus, for elf it is +1 hit per 5 levels and +1 bow dmg per 10 levels.

according to lindb (http://lineagedb.com/character/stats.php?m=dex) 19dex would give you another additional 4 bow dmg, although these charts may or may not be accurate. Also acording to same site, 18-19 str would give you +1 dmg, but not 17-18 or 19-20.

This is why I'm such a bad

This is why I'm such a bad player. I have no idea how to calculate the damage on anything. Even the guy that did my flood damage repair saw me playing and told me to calculate the damage on my weapons. I stood on my chair looking at him in amazement.
