I use to play, like forever ago, when the game was new, before many people left for Korean Test servers for Lineage 2. I played L2 for a long while, and then slowly moved into WoW. It's been a few years, and being 16 I won't have a job till summer, and I simply can't afford the game anymore. I've gotten tired of things and wanted to play the original lineage again. I've liked the game and played it for years when I was younger (Not that I am old). Basically I'm asking is it worth it. The game was a blast, I loved it. But now what's it like. Is it still the same Lineage for all of you older players? Do people still actually play? I plan on buying a 60 day time card and putting it on Lineage on my first paycheck. But is it still worth it?

Quote:still worth it? not at
not at all,
Filled with hackers, botters.. basically alot of cheaters..
Server pop on LoA around 800
Server pop on Ken 200
Server pop on Dep 200
at least half of the users per server are cheaters or bots.
Honestly, its better to not start at all then to start and complain later on
And as for updates.. we get them once a year now.. not like how it used to be
Classes are very imbalanced imo for pvp
Mage and Dark Elf class was nerfed big time
Royal Elf and Knight got a boost big time.
The question comes down to why am i still playing? ~Im addicted to trying to obtain highest lvl -o-
Currently. highest level player on LoA that I know of is 80.
and the average player is 52+ with a FREE elixer of his choice + a free Stat Tshirt of his choice (which was provided via an event that may or may not happen again)
nowadays.. getting to 70 is like getting to 52 back in the day. (65-70 is the norm on loa, with quite a lot of players in the 70+ bracket)
Do you really want to waste your time for a game taht even the company doesnt seem to care about?(No advertisements on its main site PlayNC and limited staff support for the Lineage 1 Game, with a broken message board that is supposidly going to be fixed) I sure hope not!.
But hey~ If you can ignore not getting the type of support you want from NC, and you can ignore all the botters that mop thief from you while you try to level up, and you can ignore all the hackers who pvp with speed hacks, no delay hacks, lag hacks. and you can ignore all the foreign palyers that have thier own server. and you can ignore the majority of the players who dont know english. Then hey.. Welcome aboard to the game your gona regret playing.

Prom, though I haven't been
Prom, though I haven't been on these boards that long, I normally value your insight and advice; however, I'm in complete disagreement with you on this one.
The game is still great.
As far as I can tell, all MMORPGs have botters and cheaters. I've played several and I've never found an instance of a botless/cheatless land. Why you think that that would be a deterrent from playing Lineage, then, is a mystery to me.
And as far as support, players in every MMORPG complain about the lack of support. I've seen it on all boards. It happens to be: The class/race that has the toughest time--even when it's a temporary condition--whines the loudest.
I played several games, and I came back to Lineage. Why?
1. Speed of play. Lineage is fast. Tele in. Tele out. Play WoW or Lin2 and see how long it takes you to get to your favorite hunting area. It's ridiculous.
2. PvP. While other games feature battlegrounds/colliseums, the kill anyone anywhere anytime flavor of Lineage remains unmatched in my opinion.
3. Summons/Pets. I know it sounds crazy, but I like being able to have more than one pet. And the variety of pets and summons in Lineage outclasses any game I've seen.
4. The enchantment system. I think once you've played Lin, the simplicity in understanding the enchantment system for weapons and armor makes it a +9 cut above the rest.
5. Balance. I know you may disbelieve it, but the classes in Lineage are actually well-balanced.
6. Solability. You can solo in other games. But there's something about Lineage that invites it and makes it more appealing than other games.
7. Housing. It's nice to be able to buy a house and have a place for your friends to gather.
I could go on. But the fact is that Lineage remains, in my mind, as the greatest MMORPG made. Period. That's why people still play it. The problems with this game are quite few in actuality.
Botters and cheaters and "lack of support" are external problems in a way. They aren't really part of the game.
And you know what else, if you scare away the player base with negativity, we're going to keep on having the same problems. We need more people, not less. When the game generates more income and people show their continued interest and support, we might see some changes in the number of botters and the lack of support. If there's not players, NC is totally justified in "ignoring" us.
LoA server pop was at 1.5-2k
LoA server pop was at 1.5-2k with bots at one point (I dont remember seein any improvements in services, bots or not, money is money to NC)
then it went to about 500 after i guess some mass bannings
and now its back to 800 and slowly creeping up and I can say for certain they are not new players.
The fact they control the economy and many hunting spots (like abyss lake which ppl complain about)
definetly means they are influencing the game.. nothing external about it.
and then when you are fighting hackers/cheaters and such, again they are influencing the gameplay, and makin what should have been an easy victory a quick defeat.
thier are many things you can enjoy in the game no doubt, but eventually the bots and hackers and adena/account buyers will not be something that you can just ignore. At taht point you will want NC to take action, which usualy never comes.
because i have experienced mmorpgs when such things were impossible back in the good old days..

I have to side with Muffle
I have to side with Muffle on this one for the most part, though I disagree that the classes are well-balanced. DEs are still too strong. Mages have too many places they can get to (and camp) where they can farm mops and get decent drops. Knights got a rockin' t-shirt for armor. Royals and elves have kind of been left in the dust. I hope that will change with Ep 6, but I'm not holding my breath.
I still really enjoy the game. I just have to enjoy it "as is" and not expect anything more than what it is at the moment. I hate the #$*#() adena buyers, bots and hackers, though, and I wish there was a way to seriously make them be gone.
As far as I know. Elves are
As far as I know. Elves are the top class in game right now... followed by probably mage or knight, than de, than royal. But if your a decently high lvl royal. You see the true protential come out. I beat knights and de's left and right on my royal. They get high ac, good mr, decent weapon choice... mmm :)
Quote:elves have kind of
They been getting boost after boost per episode.
my de is what is collecting dust.

agreed. Now days you see so many people selling off DE items, I'm pretty sure they are quitting de. I myself quit de for the reason that elves are getting "boost after boost" and jumped on the bandwagon and started an elf...
The thing I would want to
The thing I would want to clarify is that I'm not saying the classes are perfectly balanced. I'm saying that in comparison to other games, where there are often one or two uber classes that dominate all, Lineage is pretty well-balanced.
The interesting thing about Lineage is that it, in my opinion, offers more of a chance to retaliate than other games. I posted in the thread about botters that I think we should create a bot-hunting pledge with any alternate characters we don't care about. We can get organized and meet once a day to wipe out a particular area.
DVC and SKT and Heine Caves are good places to start.
If we're not getting back up from the developers as some are suggesting, we must fight for our own liberation! Rawr!
Game is still awesome. Even
Game is still awesome. Even with bots/cheaters/farmers/etc. Yes de's have been left out But there still strong and hit hard. Mages still hurt like crazy. Royals are still weakest by far. Elves are going to be insane if the Boost keep coming.
Little out of balance but still a game worth playing.
Prominence and muffledcry
Prominence and muffledcry already explained the good and bad sides of the game pretty well. The ability how well you can enjoy the good sides of the game depends how well you manage to ignore cheating. Cheating in the other hand is huge in Lineage I afraid even compared to other games outcluding other NC games like Lineage 2.
Lineage 1 ain't the cheapest game in the market and takes lots of time to really advance in. This basically eventually results in that the more you play, the more the cheating etc. starts to annoy you. Because Lineage is competitive kind of game you eventually start to wonder why to waste your time in it when the cheating apparently ain't going to be gotten under control.
If you play the game to have fun with friends and people of the pledge without really driving to be the top dog of the game, then Lineage can still offer some unique kind of fun even it easily gets very monotonic. If you liked the game before there's good chances you still find it enjoying for a change, so maybe even after all these warnings it is worth to try out at least :)

Have fun, but let others have too :)
I appreciate all the advice
I appreciate all the advice and everything. But i just miss the game yanno. It was the first Online Game i ever played. I play Halo and stuff, but like Lineage is just so different, so much funner. I play WoW now, and there are no b teles. There isnt a seige system, there really isnt anything. I hate the fact that people in WoW are just complete assholes 90% of the time. I liked lineage when i played, before lin 2. It was a nice community and fun. I think i might buy a game card and try for 7 days. Then Delete the account if i dont like it. I can do that right? And then just try a different game is it that bad? Also, what level ya think an avereage player can get in 7 days? Sorry for typo's
I belive, dont quote me on
I belive, dont quote me on this, you need to first purchase the game for 9.99 then you need to apply a time card on top of that purchase.. I am not sure if that 7 day system is still in place..
but if you are starting fresh, and since you have said you been gone for a long while, i dont think you can get to lvl 30 or any level that will let you experience the siege system w/o being killed in 1 hit(with 7 days time)
you can ALWAYS watch on the sidelines tho.here is a few gifs from my blog from a siege that happened not too long ago
Here are 2 siege posts i made with pictures and gifs =)
