Greetings ALL
They say there no bad news, just good news, ha.
How many felt the tremors this morning??
At one point I thought I was gona have to give 'Bert' a call, lol.
It felt like something was moving underneath our house.
( we dont have a basement and so we felt it thru the floor when it rumbled thru....
1st thought of mine, was someone hit the house with their car.
2nd thought was WTH was that!
3rd thought was the train came thru on the back acre tracks, then I recalled that they dont
use those anymore.
What was wierd was, that our cats and dogs knew something was afoot about 15mins prior
to us feeling it, cause the cats were trying to get as far off the floor as possible,
2 of them were wedging themselves in my son's window ledge, which barely had footspace
for 1 cat, yet alone 2 cats. o.o
And the inside dog was barking...at first I thought someone let him outside and
forgot to bring him in, till I opened the door and called for him and he came to me from behind,
he was in the livingroom barking.
So after i told him to quiet down and i went back to my pc, the room started shaking and
a few things fell off my window sill, but luckily they were plastic and didnt break.
It lasted about a min, but scared our pets so bad they all crowded into my son's room
on his upper bunk after it was over.
According to Neku and her hubby they thought it was the washing machine at first,
cause their bed was shaking, but then they realised it also moved a couple inches
from the wall with them on it, now thats just not normal.
Then after we thought it was all over, the cats and dogs started acting goofy again...then we
felt another after shock around 11:20am which only lasted a few seconds, but it also shook our house.
5.4 on the richtor* scale
The last time I recall this happening when I was at home and felt it, I was only 15 yrs old
and it woke us up from a sound sleep. It knocked out the phone lines and my father which
was away at the time on business, said he couldnt get thru cause the indiana phone lines
were down for over 4 hrs, he finally got thru around 2am or so.
He said that Nasa, had claimed it was their doing, cause of a testing facility located
near the fault, had a minor accident which cause the quake back then....so when this happened,
my initial thoughts were, wonder where this one started at?
Unbeknowst to many, there are many governmt facilities located all across this nation
and some of them are located in or near a quake fault, but most of them have not been
active in a long time, so their just not too much concern that those areas would erupt
anytime soon. And years and years ago, they used to think that the mining operations
in Kentucky and Tennessee used to set them off as well.
From what I hear Louisville got hit in some areas, glad I didnt move down there when
I had thought about doing so, cause the land was cheaper, but I was reminded
of the quake incident and said no thx, not again.
Oh well, so it happened again in my lifetime, and I wasnt anywhere near this one.
These quake fault's are just unpredictable and I guess there just isnt any pre-warning
to advise potential new property owners of the possibilities of a quake nearby in their future
and what may or may not happened if they are at home.
Luckily nothings been reported to the news agencies of any major accidents
during this mornings incident. Thats a good at least.
Be well and Merry Be,
Take care all!

I live in NW Indiana, and I guess that the tremors from this quake were felt in our area too. My father-in-law told me that this one came from somewhere around Evanston, IL area.

I remember hearing when I was a kid that the fault that runs in this area is one of the largest ones, albeit inactive. Some time in the past, this fault or faults even managed to change the course of the Mississippi River for a short time. But, who hasn't heard that one if you live in the area.
here's the link for the Chicago Tribunes cover on the quake.
Glad you are well LadyCrystael, if a little "shaken up" =P

Try living in California,
Try living in California, they are a state pasttime no where to run no where to hide, just rock and roll. They are scary for sure, glad no one was hurt. Bonmons
Beign a Californian, I sleep
Beign a Californian, I sleep throught most earthquakes but I know if its not something you are used then it can be scary. When I was kid, earthquakes used to scare me. Now I just blow them off and just continue with whateer I'm doing if I do feel it. Of course this probably not something I should be doing because a strong earthquake can cause a lot of damage. I did feel one recently that made me feel a little uneasy because it lasted a while but there was no damage from it. I just hope I never experience a real big one.
This quake was actually NOT
This quake was actually NOT the New Madrid fault, the origin of the largest earthquake in the US -- 1811... 1812? and the church bells in Boston rang even though the eipcenter was in Missouri. It was a magnitude 8... the 1906 San Francisco quake was 7.8.
This quake the other day was on the lesser known Wabash fault line.
California...long long ago
California...long long ago my family lived across from Charles & Lilian Richter in Pasadena CA. Charles was a fuzzyheaded Caltech professor who looked a bit like a cross between ummm Albert Einstein & a munchkin. Lilian was a woman ahead of her time, intellectual and brassy and kids were scared of her for no reason. :) Charles being inventor of the Richter scale had a seismograph in his living room. One day he comes running out to the street and gathers up the kids to go look at the seismograph which was going crazy. It was March 27 1964 and Alaska was shaking--8.4 on the scale Dr. Richter invented. It made our San Andeas tremors look like punks.
Take care and good luck pplz...may your faults settle in with little harm.

p.s. We had another aftershock on the 20th around 1:30 am, although it was minor,
and not felt in some areas.
Actually I think i was asleep during it, till my daughter told me of it.
Our cats didnt start to relax till 2 days ago, as they had still been staying up
on my son's upper bunk, and only get down when necessary.
It was just so funny, they seemed to think it was the only place they could laydown
on, that didnt rock. lol.
