Where should I level my 49 int/wis Mage?

Question

OK i see alot of peeps asking for advice on lvling there character so i thought i would ask as well.

I have a level 49 int/wis mage; I've been doing well in Fire Valley... So far i get about .25% an hour. I saw some people say that an int mage does well up in TOI 51+... I tried it but it didnt work so well. My base hp is 212 (273 w/ snow gloves and SBOB) and the elmores up there do alot more damage than the ones in oren(haha).

I dont mind FV, but it does get boring sometimes. My wife is a level 48 elf and will sometimes hunt with me. Other than that i really dont have much support at the moment... If you can think of a good spot plz suggest and let me know what to expect.

Advice is always welcome although seldom taken. thnx

Answer

As a 49 int/wis mage your *really* should be cleaning up on 51-53 ToI - ensure you have Immune to harm - and holywalk really helps. Take a few pots for emergencies too - don't be afraid to use them, but you really should be able to keep yourself alive with the heal spell.

You should be able to turn skeles in Dragon Valley. You could also try Giran Caves 1-3f and Aden Sewers with summons... Pirate Island caves might be a good place for you also and the Recluse/Resistance village areas. The upper floors of Ivory Tower should also be a breeze for you.

Don't get stuck in Fire Valley - sure it's a good place to gain cash, but there are so many other areas to explore. You'll have to adapt your gaming style, but you'll be surprised at what you can accomplish.

Yeah get out of FV. DV is

Yeah get out of FV. DV is pretty much a waist of time too but will give you some pratice for 31+. 51 is ont the piece of cake I always hear either but add all the Int and Spell power stuff you can and you will do alot better. GL.
Never waste a day "learn something new"

I leveled my int/wis mage in

I leveled my int/wis mage in TOI 51+ turning, but for level in this place, is important:
1- Holy walk
2- Ancient Robe
3- Int book
4- Int amy
5- Mana Cloak
6- C-som
7- 50mp belt

Event items:
- Int Ts
- Elixir

Optional:
- Advance
- Int Cap
- Power Gloves

If you plan to take a mage

If you plan to take a mage past 52 the first mistake was going int/wis. Should have went 18 con/wis and 16 int. You would have almost 100 more hp at lvl 49 and could forgo th hp itmes for mp regen items. Anyway, try 3x floors for exp. The raging skele's aren't as fast as elmore soldiers so they are easier to avoid. Plus, raging axemen, pikes and ghouls drop OJ's so you can replenish your stock of emergency pots. You have to be careful on 34 because of para traps (bring twigs or pots, have about 3 seconds to react) and raging marksmen spawn traps (get 2 at a time and they're often hasted). Level 35 is easier than 34 and is the last floor where OJ's drop. At 37 and above things can get pretty hairy if you have trouble turning. The dancing swords can be a pain. Either have summon (which you can use for pack animals and emergencies) take care of them or blind them and run away. I would suggest to let summons handle them because they dorp 21f scrolls (rare) and mana pots.

The biggest sugestion for gear would be mp regen items except for ammy or book (ball when you hit 50) for int. AC helps too but regen is much more important when you're expending lots of mp. If you went con/wis you wouldn't need any hp items. AS, I2H and HW are a must for any mage and should be gotten ASAP if you don't have them yet. Use g-mana pots if you have them. If not hunt 25f, if you can handle nightmare packs. Lesser demons drop them at a decent rate. Some useful items for a mage are the New King gloves, boots and helm. They offer better ac than i-gloves, i-boots and HOMR but also can give mp regen and added hp. On 3x floors MR and elemental resistence aren't needed so mermaid rings (or ring of shark or harpy) can help with mp regen.

I have the same mage type

I have the same mage type with very low hp. I started on 51+ when I was 45. At such a low lvl, I did die alot, but made more XP than I lost. What I did gain that was more important is many lessons learnt. By the time I was 48-49, I had had all the practice needed to hunt there. It is possible to hunt there with low hp, just remember one thing. Running away is more important than turning the mop that's gonna kill you if TU fails.

I dont feel you made the

I dont feel you made the wrong choice by going int/wis, con/wis would be much harder for you to make good xp up on 51+ because, what no else told you is tu is purely int/lvl based NOT sp based. and with int book and int ammy you would have 20 int.

There is a HUGE diff. between 18 int ( what you would have if you went 18 con/wis ) and 20, If you were around for event and have int shirt/elix. you would have round 22 like i do. Im a 18int/con mage and i could tear it up on 51+. The more int the better, theres a huge diff between even 22 and 23 int ive noticed.

With that said, because you would have low hp, you MUST have holy walk. I did 48-49 during 2xp event w/o but i burned a lot of pots and mgems using ith. You will just need to learn how to run away from soldier lol.

As far as measurable xp goes. .25% and is sad when you can make 1%-1.25% on 51+ like i did. at 49 that still even draaaaaaaags on (100 hours just for 1 lvl not including deaths) but like everyone else said its going to take some time and practice.

Thats all i got for ya

Ahhh I thought Lillie was

Jesy's picture

Ahhh I thought Lillie was the only int/wis mage around lol!
Low hp mega mp.... level 49 for 2 years now and over 30 deaths at this level....
Lillie does OWL and FV. She has tried 51f, she dies even with all the things sloki recommended, she dies....
Keep your chin up and have at it. I know it's hard but keep up the good work and level that int/wis mage and show every one it CAN be done!

delete ur int wis mage and

delete ur int wis mage and start con int or con wis.

I would never delete her as

Jesy's picture

I would never delete her as she is not my main char so her stats are not important enough to do that.
I personally v int/wis mage.
Yes, Lillie dies a lot since turning 49. She had very few deaths from 1-48.
But I will level her to 52 and show you, she rocks!
v int/wis mage!

In a PERFECT world you would

Chryses's picture

In a PERFECT world you would start a con/wis mage and level to 55+.

The world is seldom perfect, though; and if you have limited time to play and prefer to be able to level quickly, you will be fine with int/wis. The bottom line is you will be able to do more things in the game sooner as a level 52 int/wis mage than as a level 50 con/wis mage.

My mage is int/wis. I would LOVE to have the HP of a full con mage, but as much as people keep telling me I will find places I can't hunt as an int/wis mage, I have not come across them yet. I have done ToI 81-90. I have done SoE. I have been all the way through Lastavard. About the only place I haven't spent a lot of time is ToI 91+ and I know plenty of full con mages who die often making the run to Grim.

I also have an int/wis mage.

arlo's picture

I also have an int/wis mage. I agree with almost everyone. 51 is a great place to level. At level 48, I usually get 3-4% an hour depending on the spawn. I do go up there with 24 int so my tu is not too bad. I have a sbos on and that gives me only 241 hp. Thats why for me holy walk is a must. I do carry condensed clears and use them instead of the heal spells when being chased by the berserked elmores. I just take it slow. I do die fast though if i make a mistake. But the % at which i gain outweighs the deaths. AS would be nice to have as well. I have recently tried to put slow in my F keys. I seem to slow elmores on a regular basis with the spell. I only use them on the elmores that become berserked and then run as fast as me. Just a few last words...I appreciate the spell as ppl cast on me on 51 ^^ and jesy i think you are right, int/wis mages rock!

I've played 3 mages, my

PyroAmos's picture

I've played 3 mages, my first was on the account with my knight 18con/wis 16int, and I origonally intended to level it up, but I decided it was not wise to do it on the same account when it was lv46, as I got another computer and wanted to be able to 2 box, so I made another account and mage, this time wis/int, since I intended to use it mainly just to heal. I found I couldn't do the things I was doing on my previous mage at the same level, due to him being so incredibly fragile. I stopped leveling it when it was level 35 or so, and just used it as shop char. Then when elixir/tshirt event hit, I knew I had to roll a 18/18/17 con/wis/int +int TS mage, so I rolled a fresh mage, and leveled it to 46.... all my mages once they learned tornado and summon, I took to IT8f and AOEd until lv45 (except the one I only took to lv35, as it would die in a couple hits, was just hell to play a non-con mage)

that said, since I made 45 on my new mage, I tried 51+ a few times, first without holy walk/adv spirit, which was just a slaughter fest of me dieing.... I still made XP, but it was slow, gain 6~7% per death at lv45, so gain 1~2% per death lol.... I had a couple hundred mil I wasn't doing so I got mage HW and Adv, and after I got HW/Adv, 51+ is heaven for leveling... you move as fast or faster than all the mobs there. You can make yourself TU spell scrolls also, even if you don't want to use them to power level like most people use TU spell scrolls for, they can help you out when your out of mana, so its good to carry 20-30 of 'em to use if you get in a bad situation. That said, its so incredibly boring hunting there, and my mage can heal just as good at lv46 as lv49, that I never bother to level him up for more than a couple hours to a good solid safe XP when hes taken a few to many deaths (he's actually dropped to like lv45.75 now, I need spend a couple hours up there again soon :|)

Oh, and if you absolutly

PyroAmos's picture

Oh, and if you absolutly don't want to do 51f+, I recomend IT8f gather and AOE, like I said earlier, as soon as mage got summon and tornado/earthquake I was up there, and when you get higher level and get lightning storm and better summons it only gets better.... better drops than FV with B2S and immune dropping there not to uncommmonly as well (more common than a B-Zel in FV at least, and worth more), and camping demon while your at it. I can't really put a %/hr on it though, as I havn't taken my mages to lv48+ :P Although when I made a +9SoM and was trying to sell, I played around in FV with it on mage and it was pretty fun to hehe.

for sure u int wis mage wll

for sure u int wis mage wll die on 81f easily. 2 seers ull prob die instantly. and also lineage is primarily pvp and you know what im gonna say for this .

You can get around just fine

Chryses's picture

You can get around just fine on 81f with an int/wis mage. I have done it several times. It is worth noting, I would not want to be solo up there with my int/wis mage. As long as someone else is out in front who can see more than one seer coming, giving me time to immune and get in position, I do just fine.

I have a lvl 61 int/wis

Yas's picture

I have a lvl 61 int/wis mage, that I've leveled it as old school, who needs 51f+ when u get 1.5 - 2% on FI? I leveled on DCV 3 and 4f [yes, before the bot infestation] when reached 51 changed to TOI 4f and when was dk all the way to 55 was to FI, after that 44f until now, all of my items are +1 over safe enchant and I can easy take 6 ldragons at same time [yes, I tank them] my HP with adv and items is 470 HPs, so I guess not all is items and hp, that what u realy need is good skills and any kind of mage will work on your hands

With adv and items I have

Defy's picture

With adv and items I have 600+ hp , so it does make a difference in the end being con/wis.

Nobody made any mention of

Nobody made any mention of Int/Con.... You get the HP, and honestly... who really cares about max mp with all the +mp/+mp regen items in game nowadays... With items I have 700+hp, 800+mp and 70 mp per tick. Having 100 additional mp will serve no purpose to me. Of course con/wis is best, but for people who don't want to grind to 52 on a low int mage, Int/Con FTW ^^~

FieldsOfLove's picture

yah but how easy it is to lvl a mage now between the int elixirs. Tshirts and LOA ruleset for 51+... being con/wis lvls almost as fast as wis/int or con/int. And the higher wis at start is always nice for the extra mp and mr...
