I was in Oren having just been wacked by a really really nasty bee on DI. So I was eating meat and thinking about what level that bee might be, when I ran into Zik. We decided to return to the fire mop section of TOI.
We couldn't find enough mops on the lower floors, so up we went. We were a little afraid of possibly finding reaper on the rest floor, but he wasn't home. It is a pain with summons to get through tho. You have to dismiss your summons and resummon. There is a work around, where by you have your control window open and go up the stairs but honestly, I'd rather NOT do that and have reaper show up.
So, we went up to the ifrit floors. It was a blast!

The only thing better than an ifrit is a gaggle of them. And that is what slow is for.^^

Oh you of little faith: yes, the dumb mage can slow ifrits. I think the level helps. Anyway, when there is more than one of them coming at you, and some demons and fire doggies tagging along, slow helps. I think I used one clear the whole time I was up there...the dires used clears twice, both times with ifrit packs.
My tip is that summons will use pots once they get to about half health. (it's not worth using anything but gargoyles or dires up there...anything else will probably die too often). Anyway, if you put some pots in your summons, you won't have them die quite as often. I hate having to heal pledge, and if your summons stack up under ifrit blubber you really might not have a choice. But with clears on the summons, odds are you can get away with less healing. Summons can and will die though, even if they have pots. I've noticed that if they stay under attack, while they will burn a clear, they won't burn say five of them. Don't ask me why, other than perhaps some game balance issue...as in people like me would load up dire wolves with 20 clears each or something. But, for sure, when hunting hard areas, put some clears on the summons.
In general, I think that these floors are great for mage teams or mage/elf teams. The summons do a good job of tying up mops if you get swarmed. I like these floors because I hvae 70% fire resistance. I liked watching the dires take more damage than I did from a demon. ^^
Our best drops were a bunch of TOI 30 scrolls. But it was a fun trip. I think Zik was so happy he forgot how to use his ROPC again...

Anyway, if you're a mage who can summon at least gargoyles, and have a friend who can do the same, it's worth trying those floors. They are fun. We saw one elf with dogs, but he stayed below the Cerb floors...that made a LOT Of sense, as those things love to dog kill.

<------You can say the Elf's Name He doesn't mind ^^
from my experience you can ma
from my experience you can make you summons go from 26 to 27f with out having to resummon. once you go through those steps that take u to the base of 27f you just have to get your summon to follow you around that area to the right and back down as close to you as possible. i've done this the last 5-6 times and its worked ... kinda hard to explain but ... hope this helps
Yeah, if you open up the cont
Yeah, if you open up the control window for the summons, I think put them on rest, go through that portal, then put them on aggressive. I think that's how they'll follow you. Thistledown showed me how to do it. With mage summons though, mgems are so cheap, it's easy enough to dismiss and resummon. Given the amount of junk that drops, our summons were pretty full anyway from the lower floors, and were beginning to leave stuff like mana pots on the ground. But yes, you can get out of having to resummon by doing that.
I'm not sure why NC did that? Any ideas?

It's to keep dumb Mages from getting their summons past.

O.O Ha?
I think is to prevent tames from going higher floors. I could solo higher toi with tamed cycs for example. Dunno tho..
