There was a short discussion on global on Ken about bosses, their drops and their solobility.
There are to things most people complain about:
1. Boss drops suck most of the time.
2. Bosses shouldn't be soloable at all.
One way to handle this would be a damage distribution system that divides the damage by the number of people in the party. Here is an example:
Let's say Mummy Lord hits for 1000HP damage if you solo him. If a party of 4 people attack him, his max damage per hit will decrease to 1000/4 = 250HP. This doesn't mean that all people of the party take damage, only those who are hit by Mummy Lord or are in range of magic attacks. It's the number of party members on screen that reduces the max damage - both magical and physical.
Higher level player can still solo lower bosses and lower level players can take a boss with a larger party. Since the party size is limited to 8 members, this would be the maximal division factor. This system would allow to balance the bosses in an easy way and would bring back some fun to party hunts :)

It sounds good, till you think that its not 1000 thats divided, its more like 200-300 (for a strong boss like ML) or as low as 30-50 for something like Beleth... Making the boss super weak in a party.
And how would it work with multiple parties hitting it? For instance, most dragons are done in multiple parties.
And for us duo-boxers... You just made it that much easier for me to 'solo' bosses.

Bosses need to be adjusted
Bosses need to be adjusted for that to work - both the drops and strength. If ML hits for 200-300 per hit now it should be around 1000-1200 per hit, so you need min. a party of 4 people to end him or you can go with 2 ppl, take the high risk and still get good drops :)
For multiple parties: The division factor is the number of people in a party on screen. So if a party of 8 people attacking it's max damage/8 for this party, if a soloer jumps into the fight - well, he'll take full damage then. So party will become an absolute requirement to end a boss.

BTW this idea has a fatal flaw, many bosses are killed without anyone taking any damage, and if they put this in, would be alot more that are killed without anyone taking any damage... it would further the decline of melee chars in lin though.

Less attackers = lesser chance to get a good drop
More attackers = better drops

Interesting suggestion I have to say and definitely worth to discuss about. The problem in it of course lies in the technical aspect as how it could be implemented. At least the drops cannot be coded in the way where they adjust on the basis how many members are in the group because they are currently randomized in the spawn according to NC. Well, custom code is always possible, but I afraid it would require quite a revamp in this case.
But damage distribution, that is something that could actually be possible with customizing the code for damage. Well, maybe, I do not know how the code is done, but might be something that could be possible. I have to say this would surely make it more interesting for parties as bosses would not be killed by solo high level players anymore. But would it change anything in the end, I am not sure.
There have been also another suggestions to make bosses more to reach of wider variety of players, but I do not go into those in this thread as this suggestion at hand is worth to discuss too.

The best way is to increase
The best way is to increase the amount of regen bosses have. Damage really shouldn't be a factor imo. Increase the regen causing groups / parties to have a higher DPS to make the bosses drop. If one or two players can't break a bosses regen...then they aren't soloing it (even if they can tank it all day long)
Not every class can do high
Not every class can do high damage! Elves, royals, CON knights don't do much damage and can't break a boss regen rate therefore, while 2 DEs with K-Claw have no trouble at all...
So the damage distrubition is an option that will work for all...

con knights and royals can solo/out damage a bosses regen... depends what lvl they are really. I've been soloing a lot of bosses since I hit 55+.... and with loa added... theres only a few bosses i can't solo due to the extremely high regen rate, overall hp, and damage.... and for some bosses, getting canceled and stunned :P
