Little bot FAQ

What is a Lineage bot?

A bot (robot) is a character that is controlled by a program (LinMate, LinKing, LineX, LinGM) and not controlled by a player.

Why do people use a Lineage bot program?

Some people say that Lineage makes only fun with a higher level character and they use a bot to auto-level their character to play it when it reached a certain level, usually level 55+. Others run bots professionally to sell virtual money (Adena), items or characters for real money. Additionally there are people who run bots on a side account to get rare items or make Adena to improve their main character.

Is it allowed to run a Lineage bot?

NCSoft's user agreement and game rules do not allow to use 3rd party programs in conjunction with the Lineage client. Using such a bot program may result in a permanent banning. However, the high number of high-level bots show that NCSoft is not able to detect bot programs and that the taken actions to identify a bot can be easily avoided.

How can I make sure that a character is bot?

That's no easy task, you need some experience to be sure. There are some signs that may help you to identify a bot:

1. The drop test: Drop some adena on the ground and see if the bot goes for it. Bots may have a set a limit they go for, e.g. 100, 200, 300 or more adena. This test may not work for bots without summons...

2. The walk thru test: Some bots can walk thru monsters or other players in their way. Lately most bots have disabled this feature to avoid being easily spot.

3. Bots usually hunt the same area for a long time and regardless when you log into the game, the bot will be there.

4. Bots usually don't talk. Some bots have a auto-answer feature, e.g. if you say 'Hi' they'll answer 'hi' back. Most bots do not talk at all and have the whisper option disabled.

There are many more points but those require some knowledge about the game and bot programs, e.g. auto-buff, auto-fightback, auto-venz, movement patterns, etc.

What can I do when I found a bot?

Use the /accuse command, call a monitor and report the bot to support. Then all you can do is to hope that the bot is not monitored by someone and will be removed from the game, temporary or permanently (rarely happens).

Why NCSoft do not remove the bots in Lineage?

Um, I really don't know. Ask the community manager Lyzira or send in a support ticket.

Removing the bots from the game is a daily struggle that our support team works on.  We investigate your /accuse reports and go through support tickets on the matter each and every single day.    Keep in mind that sometimes it may take more than one report or /accuse on a particular bot to finally get rid of them.

Ok... Thats fair, I can keep in mind that sometimes 1 accuse or report is not enough...

I wonder how many itll take...

 10?

 20?

 Maybe 50?

 100?

Looks like we may never know. 250+ and counting.... NC does  nothing.

Got Blog?

I have read other forums and

I have read other forums and can say that NC does in fact investigate bots and does actually ban accounts. Sometimes within minutes of first investigating the bot. There are a lot of angry botters out there who say it happens! So NC is doing something.

However, no one seems to know how NC chooses who to investigate and ban and who to leave alone as many hi-profile cheaters are never banned. If bots really get under your skin then you can console yourself
knowing that NC may not ban the bot that you hate, but they're banning
a bot somewhere!

I was a very active anti-cheating advocate at one time and every single high level player that I reported has either retired from Lineage (not banned) or not been banned. Is it fair that NC bans a couple low level botters now and ignores many high level bots? Or forgives years of cheating by players who suddenly reformed their ways once they got to level 65?

There really isn't any way to have justice on  the matter of cheating.
Therefore I no longer care. Live and let live.

Well when a player like me

Well when a player like me have recorded myself and a monitor with me. How this so called “ player  is in a bot. How he is cheating (2 cell hack (banned) walk trough hack (no banned showed over 20 times in 5 mins) its hard for me to keep going wasting Hours of my time for a small chance NC might ban the player. If Nc would go down to DVC (Dragon Valley Cave) just walk around DVC3/4/5 for a hour they would Easily be able to tell 20 bots in one hour and have all they need.  It’s easy to tell someone is cheating when you can hit them 100 times and they ALL WAYS have the instant Heal and auto R-tele. Then they go about their way. Never a work. Keep watching bots and you will see the 2cell hack on the Enttie and so on. I would be happy to lead GM a helping hand with messing with player as I am a player and I have their right on Dep to attack anyone one(bot) I see fit.
