While playing this past week, another player informed me that NC wipes the test server before they publish new content to it.
Having invested many hours into a Test Charactor for the purpose of testing the "New Content" I was set aback by this comment.
Not being a Regular Test Player, I'd like to know if i wasted even more of my time playing this bot infested game just to be wiped out and not be allowed to test the new content. Heaven knows I will not be able to level a char to a high enough level to "Test" anything in the few weeks that it will be in testing before sending it to "Live" full of bugs and exploits the bots are ready to use.
Lets guess this is how the timeline goes:
Aug 20, 2008 Episode is published to Test
Oct 01, 2008 Episode is published to Live servers
In this 6 week window we are being asked to test 3 ep and several updates?
Who can really level a useful char to test lv 60+ content in 6 weeks? (other than bots, we know they could level that fast) And then submit to support the mass of bugs found?
I hope NCA is planning to wipe after the testing, but the few people i have talked with are very unhappy with the current Linx usage and want a wipe before. If the plan is to test how fast the hackers can get to lv60+, Why test it at all? If the plan is to Test the content, How can that occur with very few to no legit players of level 60+?

They're keeping the eps in
They're keeping the eps in internal test for 3 months, which I think is a mistake on their part, as they are I think planning to put updates on test ready-to-launch, just to stress-test it a bit before releasing it on live. Unfortunatly their QA sucks, and it will proably be buggy as hell, they'd be much better off doing internal test for a month or two, get the episodes working somewhat well, and throw 'em on public test along with a server copy from a live server, as real players would do much better job of QAing episodes than their internal QA department.... as it is, I think they're going to try to push live release out a couple weeks after release to public test, it'll be buggy as hell, and we'll have to deal with submitting lack-o-suport tickets and bug-fix publishes for 2 or 3 months, but who knows with NC... forsight, planning, support, publishes, quality assurance and competence are not NC strong points.

We will wipe test before
We will wipe test before putting the new content onto it. Once we do that, we will copy over one of the servers so that there will be some high level players there to test the higher level stuff. Since not everyone will have a high level character, we will also ensure that low level new content is tested thoroughly as well.
Keep in mind that the test server is not a full service regular game server. We encourage players to have their primary characters on one of the normal servers.

I will not be wasting any more of my time to "Help" NCA to test anything. I have invested more than 160+hours to get my Elf to lv 49 50% so I could at least help test the new content only to be told " It's not a full service regular game server". Not Joke?? Could that be why it called the TEST SERVER???

I took my time to help this community to get a better quality product to live servers and now im being told... get lost we dont need your help. ??? Very well, you will not get my help. My experiance in 4.5 yrs playing this game means nothing... im just a noob, dont ask me to show you whats wrong or right with your product.
It is common knowledge that the servers with more population also has a far greater bot problem...but thats ok, you must need the bots testing the content as well. Im sure they will report how the bugs are effecting their botting...NOT!

And doesn't starting a new character on Test server ensure that the low level items are still functioning correctly or how they could be improve...or has Lineage given up on trying to attract new customers?

a level 49.5 character isn't going to be able to test 95% of the new content, only characters that have karma and are lv55+ will even be able to get to alot of it.
Low level items will be tested by the people from the server that is not selected to have its database switched over, and make a new char there to test with.

Your correct a lv 49.5 elf isnt going to be much help. But I can Help.
My plan was to get lv 50. Then I would change up to Water or Fire so that other players of 60+ would invite me into their parties to gain the benefits of my spirit magic. But thats not going to happen now.

I play every server. I choose to play Ken much more because the people there are far more friendly and have honor. Dep is for HardCore PVP, expect to be hit. LOA was a great idea in its time (to have a unique NA Server) now its all about harrasing game play of others who you dont agree with.
I know Test is for Testing. Why else would I be there other than to Test? To help make the game I enjoy playing a better product?

Im angery at myself for thinking I could actualy play a part in improving game play for ALL REAL Players. Barryz where you on test
Barryz where you on test when EP 5 came? Well If you remember all the MAJOR bugs that came with it. Why do you ask? Well not to be rude but I am going to. Low level chars like your test that number then the mid 10's did nothing to test the content out. A few bugs came that started a big issue (elemental quiver bug being one but WAS NOT THE WORST!)
We asked NC back then to use Live Server data so we could get a real test of EP 5. Yes that server will have it a bit more than others (but well who cares) yet many more for damn sure will test stuff and see what going on. From works to not works and for sure NC will get more Bug reports. Even if they are only posted on the message boards. I have a level 48 Int Elf on test I play. I put some time into it and well. I just as SK8 will do shall blow my gear. Yet I see the big picture and agree with NC they are doing the best thing for the players. Use liver server data to test out New stuff.

I have restarted Test Char 3 times to help test content. The first 2 times it was a very limited help as I didnt have a higher level char to help with. Sieging Diad was a joke with 30 lv 30 chars.
That is why I spent more time to have a better char this time.
While I am Very Glad NCA has chosen to test this new content with real chars of higher level. I am not pleased that I had to ask the player base to get any information from NCA's Top Secret plan of action.

Since you have read the post in question to access Test server, the fact that it is not a full service game server shouldn't be anything new to you. We specifically say that we wipe the server from time to time. In the past we have done the same thing, this isn't the first test wipe that will occur. This wipe is mandatory, we are not just making this choice on a whim.
We have not announced which server will be copied over for testing the new content. If your server isn't chosen, you will still be able to help us test lower level content if you choose to.

While I agree with Barryz
While I agree with Barryz complaints, I feel NC is doing the right thing.
Unfortunately Barryz and others have to lose their work they have put into the testing server for the purpose of testing Epi6-U when it goes live. I lose mine as well. And if Ken is not the database copied, I will not be able to test anything and my work and time invested into a character for testing was for nothing.
But at the same time, for the integrity of the testing, a database copy is ALWAYS the best route to take.
Test server itself is 99% bots and 1% people like Barry. While Barry and others like him would have tested and given feedback, the 99% bots would have given no feedback. Especially no positive feedback, they would let the bugs go live then exploit them. The 1% Barryz equates to about ~15 testers, including myself and a handful of others that were on test with us.
With a server database copy, we can up the testers from 15, to over a hundred. From a testing perspective, thats the best route to take. I would assume that most high level players on what ever database is copied will not pass on the opportunity to at least moderately explore the new areas to gain knowledge of them prior to it going live... which in itself is testing them, regardless of any feedback given.
NC rarely seems to make the right choice these days, so we got to give them credit when they do. And they are in this case.
We can not have a repeat of Epi 5 launch. A database copy is the best way to do ensure that.

Not going to say we should get it I just stateting we tried LOA ruleset and they only had 2 opersion the 100 players on KEN or the 300 on Dep to test a ruleset change.

2nd Idea After 2 weeks of it on test have Shop NPC give out K-weapons, DK swords and other High end items with the illusionary affect (goes away on restart, or XX time passes) item affect weapons Only last a few hours and a Island to power level everyone to level 65 o.o then Force them off the island ^^ with the guards all around to keep it in check!
Or maybe Use the Weldern DM to do the leveling. Spawn let say testing varmints (level up orc) with guards on screen so soon as a player hit 60-70 they get kicked out.
This way new stuff would be test and then higher stuff would be test and everyone could do it.
Yet even if they just copy LOA or DEP or KEN I would have a really issue with it myself. This is all just an idea but in no way necessary at all. Yet does stand to be a good idea that might be added in someway.

I agree, If their plan is to give away 60+ free levels and god gear why bother to copy any server over? Make everyone start a new char.
I at least took time out of my schedule to help improve the publish by creating and leveling a char... was a waste in hindsight.
Copy a server, give them nothing to aid them.
Keep the old NC standard of "Everything is TOP SECRET, the player must figure it out all by themselves". The fact that every single change/addition has been on another server for 6-18 months. There are no secrets except what we will be getting (if you read korean or chinese you already know).
The maps all come from players (some of which hacked the client to gain them), what stats effect what is known from old player tests (and may be bad data at this point), damage from weapons and spells is all from player testing (may be bad data at this point), what mops drop when ended all comes from player feedback (we know this is outdated data).
There comes a point when keeping info from the players doesnt help anyone. Bad/No feedback ruins the databases where players work to keep this data. How difficult would it be to inform the players?
For NC, it must be impossable, or hidden in the user argeement.

This was just an idea if it start to be a big issue that other servers could not partake in it. I am not for this idea at all and just do a Database copy and be done with it.
This was just a way to give everyone a chance to try stuff out with what would be the normal level in them areas. Yes at the start alot of 55 or less player will be at it but in the end its till a 60+ area.
Add all the boss events we had most palyer will have what i said above.

But people wont have nothing, they will have their already good gear on their already good char, with a TS on top of that doubling everything from normal to God status.

im not sure how many people actually run our lineage servers but unless there is someone dedicated to running round all departments getting up to the minute information and posting it on the forum there will always be someone complaining a the lack of info. (please dont take this as offensive barryz ;) )
I run a forum for a friend whos running an online game for about 2000 people in total and its being run fairly well with 2 people working on the game and 4 admins and 12 moderators on the forums.
im not trying to make excuses for NC im sure with the amount of money they have taken out of our pockets over the years they could afford to get someone to be a public liason guy/gal but its a tough job trying to coordinate all the information thats needed, we struggle on our forums and we all speak english trying to do it with a language barrier as well must stuck tbh ;)
anyway instead of blowing up at the people that are trying to give info and feedback as best they can please try to keep calm :-) and patient (i cant speak korean so i need to wait even longer than you for the update :P )
anyway back to the point - PPPLEASE copy ken ;) i've been playing for years and have managed to level to and delevel from 48 about 50 times (currently im level 46 :( lol i had a really bad period where i got all sulky and started killing myself :( its a mistake lol so thats why i try to get people to stay calm ^.^ you do silly things when annoyed )
anywhooo Copy Ken and i might finally get to 50! lol then never wipe it again and i'll be truely happy :)
^.^ i know you invest time into it but at the end of the day it is only a game so treat it as you would monolopy.

The most upsetting thing about this issue for me was this...
In the past to test new content, You HAD to go onto test in advance of the publish and create a char so that you could test the content when it was uploaded. I did this. I took time out of my busy schedule and created a char and began to level it up. I dont have time to play every day, luckily my char was on track to make lv50 before the publish.
At some point in the process, (i bet you it was long before i created this thread and asked) the powers that be decided to copy a live server to the test server (a fantastic idea) so the content could be tested by many more players. In reality creating a much better testing of the new content.
Why did this bother me so much? Because NCA changed the system and told no one of the "New Improved Plan".
Much Time was wasted by many players who wanted to test the new content so we didnt have another Ep5 mass bug screw-up from NC's high quality QA dept.
The fact is I have char's on all 3 live servers. So unless I quit the game or do something to get banned for, I have a char to test with. So why did I waste my time creating another char on the test server just for testing? Because that was the way it was done in the past.
I understand plans change, things come up and create issues that must be delt with. But to change the way testing had always been done before and neglect to inform the players of the change... Fracus is the only one to blame, isnt he in charge? lol... yeah right...
