Here's a general question for the veteran players. Can give a brief howto on effective 2 boxing? Could you provide pointers on legitimate hardware and/or software macro setups that make it doable. I'm not interested in illegal / botting tools, just good clean lineage productivity advice. I have two machines and two accounts, but I don't have 4 hands! Do you really play with a mouse in each hand? What about hotkeys? Do you use some other fancy mouse-like gizmo to do the voodoo? I would love to see a detailed post by some of the 2 box overlords like Sk8 that give a bit of insight into how the magic works. If you are one of the wizards behind the curtain, how do you do it, and what tools do you use?

My expertise on the subject
My expertise on the subject will not be very beneficial to you as I do it a different way.
I use a mac, launch dual clients on the same screen, and use one mouse one keyboard clicking back and forth between the clients over and over and over again. Independently playing both chars unassisted. No programs, no macros, no additional hardware.
Ill let the PC two boxers take this one.

Mac users two box....
they can have two clients open on the same computer and can toggle back and forth between them with one mouse click.
They either use a nostro or keyboard and keybind/macro specific in game functions as needed. ie the follow left mouse button hold
Two computers are right out unless you got godlike talent or some sorta set up that allows you to use one keyboard and mouse for both computers (which i have seen on WoW mulit boxing sites)

It would be possible with 3rd party software that would allow 2 clients or the stuff i saw that wow user with that allowed them to use 1 mouse for 4 different pc's. (im looking for that guys website right now)
Anju or Tiki will probably
Anju or Tiki will probably get on here and specify everthing...
But they use two comps. The mage comp uses a Nostromo. The Nostromo has macros programmed for buffs and stuff like that. You set buttons on the Nostromo to simulate mouse clicks for following the tank.
The mage is nearly completely controlled through nostromo after the mouse of the mage is set on the tank and then left alone. One hand on tank mouse, one hand on nostromo is all you need, I am fairly sure.

I use 2 pc's. While it
I use 2 pc's. While it can be difficult, you dont have to be superhuman or cheat.
First off both monitors are side by side, with the keyboard and mouse for each under the screen they control. I found the n52 while made some things easier, complicated the whole process as you do only have 2 hands.
I turn on the hp/mp bar above the char so as to know which char is accually being controlled by which system.
Set your F1-F3 keys with the spells/scrolls/pots you will need for the area your hunting at that time. (unused/duplicated spells/items here can kill you). Memorize the keys and what they do as you will need them when the tempo of battle picks up.
You will need to learn to use both hands equally. Know your mouse and how to center click the highlighted spell. Here is where many people use the n52 or other multibutton mouse. There are macro programs for this type of hardware that produce the effect of mouse clicking. While NCA has said in the past this is legal as it does not directly effect the lineage client, that is how many 3rd party programs funtion.
Now the fun part... walk around and learn to follow yourself,(in the past you could use the arrow keys, this is not an option now) this is simplest if you lead with your tank and follow with your healer. Click the tank and walk, then click the healer on the tank and hold. The problem with this is that if you use "forced spell mode" youll just cast the last buff/heal and stand there. I only follow when im moving great distances or running through an area(with "fsm"off), other wise i use "forced spell mode" on healer and click where i want to go.
Learn to focus on the tank char screen, and glance quickly at the healers screen while walking and locating mops. while fighting the reverse occures. The Tank selects a target and begins attacking ( click target mop, drag pointer to chat window so he continues to attack so you can focus on healing and buffing). Your tank hand is temp now free to select diff hot keys if other spells are needed. Use the healers right click to locate tank, left click the selected heal spell, repeat as needed... or with free tank hand select diff spell and cast at correct target. (i have noticed if your healer mouse does not move after targeting your tank and you use the F-key to cast the same spell, your tank can move about the sceen and end several mops while the healer does not lose target on him, altho the mouse is no longer accualy on the tank. Try it, you will notice it quickly)
Now practice... practice....practice. It does get easier but if you have never used your left hand with a mouse it will take some time to learn. The Tank is the more simple of the 2 chars, at the beginning i would suggest using the left for tank and right for healer. But you find your own style.
Remember its only a game while your looking at both your chars dead on both screens.
Very detailed. Excellent
Very detailed. Excellent post. I'm actually left handed IRL but I've been using my right hand for daily mouse control for years. I should be able get accustomed to 2 mice reasonably fast. Both of my mice have mouse wheels which is pretty useful in the heat of battle. I'll give it a try this weekend and see how I go.

Check out the following links in no order for infomation posted about how to two box. The best way we found with out stress or learnning do things faster. This way after you get used to is like playing one computer but with a heal bitch following you.

I do not have a current N52 Profile loaded up but check out the SS for me (if they are still up)
Short story
best to have the monitors side by side.
N52 on your Non doment hand. I am right handed so I stayed with that had for the mouse on the main comp.
Check out Tikits profiles to see his sset up how his mage works and all.
In the end it will allways be beat for you to create it yourself.
Start out with something simple like the button for your left index finger make that a right mouse click. *(this way you just target the main char and never touch the mouse unless you lose target) Use the N52 to do the mouse click and then set the other keys to HOTKEYS! Start out simple and add things as you go. I would not bother with macros the 1st time you use it. Wait till you get good at it then add more things to it.
It does take time but saves much time in the end.
Wow. Thanks for all the
Wow. Thanks for all the advice. I actually have Macs and PCs. Unfortunately, the mac client no longer seems to work on a clean install for a MacBook Pro using Tiger. I tried a couple of times and for some reason, you can't move in some areas like Heine where some of the tiles seem to be missing. I guess I should file a bug with NC about it but haven't gotten around to it yet. So, I just use bootcamp to play ATM. Anyhow, there are several different variation on how to do it so I better get busy trying the different techniques out. I esp like the picture of Anju's layout. A picture is always worth a thousand words! The N52 looks like an interesting way to waste a few weeks.
Not Tiger. I mean the latest
Not Tiger. I mean the latest version of Leopard. Still the bug is reproducible for me, even on a fresh install of OS + Lin. Amazingly enough I can copy the same Lineage.app folder over to my old powerpc mac and it works just fine...

I wrote a long post to, and linone crashed lol.
I used 2 mice when I 2boxed.... ctrl-x to turn auto-cast on and just spam click to cast lesser heal. Buffs are only every 20min, so its not hard to manage those. You can setup nostromo to 2box as well, and although I havn't dived into that, at least yet, it would be fairly easy to setup. Don't forget about scrolling and middle-clicking if you don't use nostro. Practice alot, in somewhere like resistance village, where stuff doesn't hurt much, but theres alotta mobs and you can get your practice, before you try to go 2boxing somewhere hard.
I gave up 2boxing after a month or so, as I found it sucks the fun outta the game, and makes it feel like a job. Its not really to hard to get the hang of though, maybe a week or two to master a 2-mouse setup. Proably a little less time to master a good nostromo setup, or a little more time to master a bad nostro setup.

It doesn't HAVE to be a
It doesn't HAVE to be a 'Nostromo' (Belkins premier GamPad) there are many different kinds of GamePads out there .. the Belkin Nostromo is just the one I prefer .. very ergonomic and easy to set up.
Bottom line is .. if you want to 2box with 2 comps a GamePad is a must have .. ends up kinda like a cell phone, ya get one and use it and think .. "Dayum ! How'd I every get along without it !" ... or Like TeamSpeak .." Dayum .. I hate to try an type to my Party mates durring a hunt .. how'd I ever get along w/out it !" Sk8's method if fine or what not .. but way more work that it has to be .. it's up to your personal preference.
Do some research on gamepads .. try one out I almost guarentee you'll think the same. It takes no fun out the game, makes it more of a challenge actually .. and if you party hunt with your slave (as I often do) makes it a fuzz harder to lvl. o.0 .
It's nothing more than a prehipheral device (such as a keyboard/mouse/printer/yada yada yada.. ) that takes the functions of a Keyboard an mouse and puts them all at your fingertips. You will also find many helpfull threads out there on what ever GamePad you choose to go with .. I would advise you utilize them. Should you choose to go with the n52 I will be more than happy to help you in what ever way I can. GL !! Hunt Safe !!

It might work or it might not. It all depends on their software. Yet it will not take more thena couple of hours at best to make a good complex set up for yourself or little as 30 mins to get the basic set up going.
You know Mouse click Hot keys and that set to the N52TE.
Once you play with it you will relize how easy it is.

Wow... the forums on their site are like... on fire. Looks like n52 and n52te profiles arn't compatable with eachother, the TE has a few problems with the d-pad and the software for the new TE is leaps behind hte n52... people on the forums there even went as far as to post how to gut a n52 and n52te and put the old hardware in the new gamepad so you can use the old software with it still, in the new backlit body... like... wow, belkin really dropped the ball on that one.... to have profiles not innerchangeable between the 2, nearly identical gamepads is like... almost unfathomable. I need to get a new one, cause key15 popped off and I can't find it anywhere (which is the splash-button, was my ScreenShot key) so I had to map it to a new key, and don't really like where its at now.... looks like I'll have to find a online store with the old n52 still in stock and order online though, as belkin phased out production and sales of the old n52, and only sell the n52te now.

i use 2 mice. I don't ever touch my keyboards when 2 boxing.
i really dont feel like explaining it that much, im sure other people could explain it better. but practice makes perfect. when I hunt in groups, i can usually keep the whole party healed controlling 2 computers at once. my mouse of choice is just a 3 button mouse with a scroller in the middle.
as far as n52 and the macros i hear everyone using. seems like people are getting ripped off paying their money for one when jolak does the same exact thing and is free if you talk to anyone that has it and willing to give it to you. It makes 2 boxing extremely easy for the lazy person unless it gets knocked off target.
hmm .. yes I know Jolak ..
hmm .. yes I know Jolak .. think of it like this ..
Jolak = Cheap Mountain BIke
Gamepad = Nice big 4x4 truck
Both will get ya 'over the mountain an through the woods' just a matter of function and feature.
They both 'get the job done' but in no way exactly the same.
All Jolak does is auto Right Click on the interval you set.
As you said .. for the lazy person .. spose it's the way to go.
If your willing to spend $50 or so the n52 is worth the cash.

yah see. i think n52 is a waste of cash and space. whether your using jolak or using 2 mice.
theres a large variety of
theres a large variety of macro programs you can use, not just the nostromo software, such as http://www.download.com/AutoHotkey/3000-2084_4-10279446.html?tag=mncol;pop&cdlPid=10819446 you can map your healing macros to some keys you don't use (like up/dwn/left/right since you can't move with them anymore, or un-numlock keypad and set macros there), all you really need is a macro to click left and hold, that you use to follow, one to click hotkey for lesser heal and then left click and repeat until pressed again, one to press hotkey and left click once for immune, one to click each buff hotkey and the left click with a delay between them long enough for spell cooldown... those 4 keys are pretty much all you need. A few more can be usefull, like zerk/holy walk (hw doesn't req you to change target so you can put them on 1 macro and use w/ mouse over tank whenever you see one of the start to blink and it'll zerk tank and HW mage), full-heal, ect. As long as program doesn't interface directly with the client.
