Worth starting?

Hi all, been looking for a new (well old :) ) 2d isometric MMO and must admit I like the look of this. But with a game that has been out for so long is it actually worth starting? I enjoy PKing, right or wrong I enjoy it. Can you PK anywhere in this game? What about PvP drops? When I kill a player can they drop items they are wearing and same with me?

Would I stand a chance against people or are they to far ahead that even with a year invested I will still be so far behind.

Also what class would you recommend? Looking for a high DPS class, good for PvP.

Can you solo boss mobs and stuff or do you have to do them in a groups?

One final question, im from the UK what server would you recommend?

Thanks

You can pk on LoA and Dep servers(Ken server is non pvp other than sieges and combat zones) pretty much anywhere although towns and certain areas are safe zones where you cannot pvp. If you pk someone in a normal zone you will turn chaotic. Only chaotic players have a high chance of dropping items. Chaotic and non high lawful players can drop their equipped items. Most players tend to be lawful and have a very low chance of dropping items, players with very high lawful points will never drop their equipped items but can drop other items they are carrying. There are also combat zones like shop doorways where you can fight people without losing xp which can be fun. There is an indicator of what type of zone you are in on your screen at all times to avoid confusion.

Would I stand a chance against people or are they to far ahead that even with a year invested I will still be so far behind.

You should be able to do pretty well after a years playing, leveling becomes tough at 65, exp is gradually harder to gain up until level 49 then from 49-50 the xp required per level stays the same until level 65, there will probably always be higher level chars though as there is no achievable cap right now. Also what class would you recommend? Looking for a high DPS class, good for PvP.                                                                                                                           From what you say I'd recommend you to go for Dark Elf.At level 50+ knight has a stun ability which renders opponents helpless temporarily but does not do as much damage.

Can you solo boss mobs and stuff or do you have to do them in a groups?

Currently you can solo quite a few bosses but they are going to be made tougher soon, the game is quite soloable but you will most likely join a bloodpledge so you can call your friends to help anyway.

LoA has the highest player base and as such trading is easier there which will help you a lot and means more people will be around for pking and such, not many new people join Ken or Dep.

Brilliant, thanks for your

Brilliant, thanks for your help mate.

How many players would you

How many players would you say play this? Dont want to join a dead game as well -.-

I haven't played LoA for a

I haven't played LoA for a while but I think there's usually around 600 people online on that server. Apparently they are going to launch a new advertising campaign soon so hopefully we will be seeing a lot more new players coming in too. The game itself has a huge player base in Korea, as of April, 2008, Lineage has a little under 1 million active subscriptions worldwide so it won't be going away anytime soon

Thanks mate, how easy is it to make money and stuff? Are there many friendly guilds who take on new people?

For my Dark Elf I will be starting, what stat points should I concerntrate on for PvP?

Thanks

It's not too hard to gear a

It's not too hard to gear a char up these days, as for dark elf I've never played one so someone else would be better at answering that. I've played elf, knight, mage and even done a few stints as a prince on test but yet DE is definitely the class I think you are after. Someone will get round to answering you about that...

I know there are a few decent pledges on LoA but haven't been on there in a while now but most people are welcoming for new players.

I say not too hard but

I say not too hard but should add like the leveling there is no real limit to how good you can get your items due to the enchanting systems but it's pretty easy to get a basic +4/+6 set

Dark Elves in terms of

Poring's picture

Dark Elves in terms of gears, in my opinion comes pretty cheap compared to other classes. Being one of the hardest hitting classes from Lv45-60, and their weapons such as a +9 Claw/Edoryu of Bravery is like 10x cheaper than knights, which are really decent weapon to have. As for armors, it's pretty much the same as knights until you can afford the HP gears for Dark Elves, such as Shadow Boots, Dark Cloak, etc..

u'd probably want to go con.

u'd probably want to go con. specially in pvp...

Mmm I just started playing

Mmm I just started playing and it seems to run wierd... Like I dont know the character movement is not very fluid seems a bit jerky if you know what I mean? Or is that how its ment to be

Is lineage worth starting:

PyroAmos's picture

Is lineage worth starting: No lineage is not really worth starting for a new character.

Can you PK anywhere in game: Yes, with a couple of exceptions (town and 1 or 2 hunting spots that are generally not worth hunting in anyway)

What about PvP drops. When I kill a player can they drop items they are wearing and same with me: Kind of. Lineage has a 'Lawfull' System, by killing monsters you can raie your lawfull points to max (32767 points), at which point you can no longer drop items when you die. If you  kill another player, you get negative lawfull points (regardless of your current law you will always goto a negative number, so if you would get say -3000 law for killing someone, regardless of your lawfullness, even if you are max, you will goto -3000, subsequent kills will only put you -3000 more, so first kill you go 32767 to -3000, next kill you goto -6000 ect), and untill you work off the negative and then increase your lawfull points to max again. If you kill someone who is negative law, you do not lose lawfullness. The amount of Lawfullness you lose for killing someone is based on your level compared to their level.

Would I stand a chance against people or are they to far ahead that even with a year invested I will still be so far behind: You would have to buy a character and adena to compete in lineage at this point. Almost everyone that plays now has been playing for 4+ years, and many of them bought adena or accounts because they fell behind. It would not be possible to be relavent in end-game without either a 2-3 year hardcore (40+hr/week) time investment or buying an account/adena. Lineage accounts are very expensive as well $3000~4000 for a decent account that could be relevant in end-game PvP.

Also what class would you recommend? Looking for a high DPS class, good for PvP: There are 5 classes only in lineage, Mage (caster), Elf (everything), Knight (melee), Dark elf (melee), Royal (melee). Melee isn't very good for pvp, since all characters movement speed is the same, so you wont hit people unless they are stupid. If you wanted to pvp with a melee through, Dark elf has been the god of melee pvp for the last 3 year. Knights have a stun ability that works out well in group PvP, but is ineffective until 4~5 above the people you are fighting against. The next update makes dark elves fairly more difficult to level, although they still retain the top-spot amoung high-level chars.  Elf is very effective because of their buffs/debuffs, and mages have a good nuke (mainly used as a finisher) and some nice buffs and utility spells.

Can you solo boss mobs and stuff or do you have to do them in a groups: Most can be soloed or 2 manned at high level, with a few exceptions (dragons) which require a fairly large group.

Which server should I play: Dep or LOA, considering your looking for PvP. Which one doesn't really matter, although LOA does have more people.

Lineage is not a very easy

Lineage is not a very easy game to get into, especially at this point in time. Starting as a real noob with nothing to get you off your feet is hell, but if you stick with it the game will grow on you like crack. Although the newbie help that you get these days is 50x better than years ago.

Lv 45-52 is not a easy road, but we're gonna get a big content update within the next few months, which has special "newbie zones" for lvl 45-51.99% that make the "Road to DK" like 5x easier than it is now.

The jerky movement... I was in your shoes when I started this game, it turned me off a bit too, but believe me it's something you will get use to, it will litterally just dissapear after a bit and it wont even be an issue anymore, there are some morphs you can use anyways (scroll of shape change) to polymorph you into game creatures which make the game movement more fluid... if it's really bugging you that much.

The game is very hvy on team work these days anyways, so dont expect to be killing very many ppl on your own, especially with the low user base... but a Dark Elf is your best bet for good dmg early on... like everyone has already stated.

I suggest you try back in 6

pliask's picture

I suggest you try back in 6 months. LOA at least atm is mostly only the hardcore PVPers logging in on daily basis. Most ppl have quit or are taking a break waiting for the new episode. The Community will get some new Life once we get back on track and get caught up with Korea
